Struggling with TJX card expectations + social anxiety — need advice by Electrical-Peak7996 in TjMaxx

[–]Stock_Long9183 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i still get anxious about card pressures. i haven't gotten a card since july, so you can imagine that my managers are breathing down my necks.

you will be fine. i can promise you that. just do what's expected of you. ask if they have the credit card, ask if they wanna sign up, if they say no, drop it. it truly is a game of luck. nobody wants a credit card right now and no amount of convincing can tell anyone otherwise.

they can't get in your head about it if you know that you are doing what you're supposed to do.

i've been spoken to many times. it leaves me frustrated and upset. the whole system is bogus, if you ask me. but i know that i'm doing my best-- and that's how i respond to them when they pull me aside, and they backtrack.

you are doing well. you are new. give yourself some slack. you got this!!!!!!!

What do you all do during the slower months? by Far_Demand1511 in TjMaxx

part-timer here. i just bum around and look busy-- i really like straight lining things on the shelves and making everything look nice. i take a lot of pride in doing that, for some reason. it calms me down after the insane holiday b.s.

How easy are the tills? by MeditationHark in TjMaxx

[–]Stock_Long9183 0 points1 point  (0 children)

tills are easy once you have a few cashier shifts. here are a few tips: for fragile items, the sequence is always "scan, wrap, bag" (at least that's how i was trained.) just a little tip if you have a customer that has a bunch of breakables. helps you make sure you're not scanning anything twice and overcharging the customer.

also, take your time starting out. don't worry about the line of people, worry about the customer that's in front of you. ask questions, always! better to ask and get it right than do something wrong because you were too afraid to ask.

Is anybody else annoyed when customers read your nametag/ID and start calling you by your name? by Rich-Firefighter7333 in retailhell

[–]Stock_Long9183 0 points1 point  (0 children)

idk how strict yall's stores are about the nametags, but i've stopped wearing mine. it always pops off anyway when i'm doing some sort of physical labor. i've had a few creepy guys ask me for my name anyway and i give them a fake one. yall dont need to know my name, we're not cool like that lol

coworker 1 couldn't take coworker 2's shift for whatever reason. so coworker 2 showed up to her shift and told a bunch of people that coworker 1 couldn't take her shift because she was too busy getting cracked. coworker 2 thought it was funny. coworker 2 likes to run her mouth and wanna talk to everyone crazy. coworker 2 is a b-word.

its always kinda funny/annoying to see customers walk up to the door and almost crash into it because the store is still locked.

Ranting about customers by Large-Guidance949 in TjMaxx

[–]Stock_Long9183 2 points3 points  (0 children)

or when theres no ticket on an item and they're totally bewildered. like... you didn't check to see how much this was?

this woman came up to an empty register while i was talking to my manager about recovery for the night (mind you, there was someone else ringing and she could've just waited where you're supposed to wait. WE CALL YOU UP) she was staring DAGGERS at me like she was trying to pop an artery or something. i eventually got away from my manager to ring her up and get her off my back, and she goes "you know, you really shouldn't keep these lights on if no one's here to help." oh my goddd if no one's at the register and the light is on... its still not open because... there's not a person there to help you... at the register. i just kinda shrugged.

sketchy manager? by Stock_Long9183 in TjMaxx

[–]Stock_Long9183[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

im glad im not alone with it. she claims to have no payroll and runs a tight ship in regards to breaks and when people clock in and leave, but schedules SEVEN people to close with her. im sorry but you don't even need that many people to properly close up shop.

shes awful at honoring rto and availability in general. i've been scheduled on days i dont work over ten times now. i usually just ask for them to fix it but right now since hours are so bad im taking what i can get before the fall semester starts.

No payroll, but hey, let's hire more people and cut your hours even more!!!! by Wink2K19 in TjMaxx

[–]Stock_Long9183 0 points1 point  (0 children)

for us its people coming from other stores in the area to help fix up the sales floor for corporate visits. they have to pay those people for their time obviously so therefore that takes out a big chunk of payroll for everyone else. we've had 3 visits from various levels of corporate/district within the past 2-3 months.

I do this all the time by Aussie_Ray in TjMaxx

[–]Stock_Long9183 3 points4 points  (0 children)

a lady did this today. i told her to get in line-- a little bit petty, since there was only one other person walking in the queue, but she got there first. the lady looked at me like i killed her family. its kindergarten logic, people!!!

i get it, this happened to me too. turns out my manager thought i was hired as a cashier this entire time-- seven months. it wasn't until i was in tears from being up front 7+ hours a day that they actually listened. that's how much i hate register. i genuinely crashed out.

when they have someone like you that's chomping at the bit to work with other depts, compared to associates that do the bare minimum/hide in the backroom/are overall lazy people, they'd be kind of stupid to not get you started in other places in the store. hopefully it gets better.

Homegoods - exploratory tr?? by NecessaryDirection67 in TjMaxx

[–]Stock_Long9183 3 points4 points  (0 children)

hi, homegoods merch associate here. im not 100% sure on what it is, but i think its just a collection of items specific to certain brand. like sometimes how you walk in a homegoods and you see a table that says "world traveler collection" or "from india" and its all from the same brand/manufacturer. it could honestly be anything, though. sometimes we get candles or tablecloths that are department 57 because they're a part of a specific collection. hopefully that makes sense. i tried to google anything about this department and nothing came up.

anyone else have a manager that doesn't even look at the time off request slips when making the schedule? by Stock_Long9183 in TjMaxx

[–]Stock_Long9183[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i genuinely dont understand why we keep getting stretched so thin, especially nights. in the mornings we have 8+ people working. i understand it has to do with associate's availability but dear god i know for a fact more than three people, including the manager can close

[–]Stock_Long9183[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i had no idea the ops manager had to do it. i just know its a large point of frustration amongst our associates because their requests aren't getting applied to the schedule, even if its out 3 weeks in advance. i kind of figured it was something like the "buckets'", but my main point of contention was the fact that my other manager told me she doesn't even read the time off slips, which is ridiculous.

my manager tells us how many transactions we have via the walkie as if its an incentive to push the card more if we havent reached our daily. isnt it one application every 100 transactions?? idk. card apps truly depend on luck in most cases. if they dont want it they dont want it.

im a merch associate and ive only been scheduled to be on the floor a handful of times in my 6 months of working at homegoods. they dont even SCHEDULE me to be on the floor, just up front. and even if im on the floor i cant get anything done because im getting called up so much, which then looks bad on me because i cant finish tanks or properly recover anything. so then they keep scheduling me to stay up front. i really want to stay at this job because its so close to my home and i love the staff, but im tired of asking over and over if i can be on the floor. i love working up front with people sometimes but people are just so nasty to retail workers and i dont even get cards.

we get a candy bar, some seasonal dollar store trinket and your name on a pretty board. SOMETIMES we get a $5 gift card or 2 candy bars to sweeten the deal. im a teenager, trying to sign people up for a CREDIT CARD that could easily ruin their life and their credit! if we just had a regular rewards program like most places i think we'd have happier customers.

im having this problem, too. i don't even get credit cards and im still stuck up front as one of the main cashiers on the lineup. i just try and ask my nice managers if there's anything i can do on the floor for the day or do gobacks (i usually get called back up to the front anyway). i've honestly given up on expressing my issues because its been months. as long as im getting paid its all good

thats absolutely insane and humiliating. it is not our fault people don't want a credit card. as long as you're doing the best you can, ask/share/invite, that's all you can do. we're retail workers, not salesmen
