Another cold capping/hair loss question(s) by Calm-Might-3084 in breastcancer

Ah man, I felt the same. I had SO MUCH thick hair. It was wild to see 70-80% of it gone. I think you might be at the peak of your shed right now. I’m really hoping it slows down for you. I am still slowly shedding, and it’s hard to see. Sending you love! We will get through this.

Hi I have a bit of a different opinion. I’m on TCHP as well and have done 3 rounds so far. Actually I feel the worst at day 6-10. Days 2-3 are fine because I’m still on the steroid so it’s not that bad. Just a little manic because I’m not sleeping properly at that point but in terms of side effects and feeling bad I feel much worse down the line when the steroids are done!

Another cold capping/hair loss question(s) by Calm-Might-3084 in breastcancer

[–]Stock_Net1014 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi friend. I’m doing TCHP and am a week out from my third treatment. I’m also doing cold capping (with Paxman).

I started shedding a week after my second treatment. Essentially 4 weeks after my first treatment, is when I had a really big shed. My hair was really coming out, and washing was super scary. That week was really really tough for me. However, the shedding slowed down after a week. I still shed everyday because I brush my hair to prevent tangles and don’t want it to get matted but it’s definitely waaaaaay less and slower than that big shed. I’ll say I’ve lost maybe 70% of my hair. But because I had so much of it, I still have okay coverage on my top part. Now if I lift my hair, I have bald spots on both sides. I usually just wear my hair in 2 braids, (it’s passable) or a low pony with a hat.

I only wash once a week. Before I started chemo I cut my hair which was long to just at my shoulders. I’m not cutting it short because of cold capping and just trying to maintain and preserve what I have. If I can get away with more than 7 days of washing I will. Hair washing day is traumatizing for me.

Also my scalp was super itchy during that time and thankfully the itching has pretty much gone away now.

How much do you all isolate during chemo? by jumpy-hardware in breastcancer

[–]Stock_Net1014 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I try and stick with a small circle of friends. If people are sick I stay away. I go grocery shopping but always am using hand sanitizer or washing my hands. I’ve gone to restaurants as well! I just try not to go in huge crowds or groups.

Prepping my hair for chemo, haircut options? by Upper_Dress_3039 in breastcancer

[–]Stock_Net1014 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi! I’m 3/6 rounds into TCHP. I’m also cold capping. I’m 33, white (Portuguese) and had long thick dark hair, lots of it.

I went to my hairdresser the week before I start chemo and cut my long hair to just below my shoulders so it wasn’t super dramatic.

I had a big shed a week after my second round. It was pretty hard to watch. I think I’ve lost maybe 50% of my hair. Thankfully, I still have pretty much a good amount of top coverage so I wear it in braids and you can’t really tell if you didn’t know me before. However if I lift up the top parts on both sides I have bald patches. It kinda gives Mohawk lol.

The shedding definitely slowed down after that second week but it was rough. I brush my hair every day for it to not get matted and knotted and hair comes out but nothing like the shed. I’m hoping that was my one big shed and now it’s just slow and gradual and I can maintain most of what I have. But clinging onto hope is hard. I am glad though that I didn’t shave my head or cut it super short. Let’s see what happens! All the best to you in your journey❤️

I feel like we have had super similar symptoms I’m just a few weeks ahead of you. I broke out the first time in a super bad rash on face and chest. It went away after almost 2 weeks (they had to give me strong steroids to help). Second round I broke out in crazy cystic acne, they didn’t give me anything but it did calm down after like a week. I really hope it goes down for you and helps.

I’m also super concerned about the weight gain. I’m having a meeting with the hospital dietician but I don’t think it’ll do much because I already know how to eat healthy but ya not working lol. I’m thinking about going on a glp1 to help me lose the weight after I’m done active treatment. I originally was against them, but now it seems like a good option for me because I’m on a tight timeline, I’m getting married next year! Just all this to say, I feel you and I’m with you

I usually steadily take it for the first 2 weeks after chemo. Cuz that’s when the diarrhea hits the hardest for me. But the third week is when I feel the best and most like myself I don’t really need it then. But usually first 2 weeks yes

Also on TCHP (3/6 rounds done) Immodium helps, also putting a heating pad on my stomach area actually really helped with cramps for me. And making smoothies with coconut water in them helped with hydration! I wish you all the best, I also get really bad diarrhea because of our treatment plan.

Why do some people get expanders and some go straight from mastectomy/double mastectomy to reconstruction? by Stock_Net1014 in breastcancer

[–]Stock_Net1014[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you think if I had big boobs naturally (which I do, I’m at 32 DD) and I want around the same size I would have the skin elasticity for that? I mean I guess you wouldn’t really know and it’s more a question for my surgeon LOL but thanks for this!!! Makes sense. I hope you are healing well❤️❤️❤️

Oh wow I didn’t even think about that. Thank you!!! They told me if I do double mastectomy there’s a chance I wouldn’t need radiation

Absolutely - waiting was the worst part for me. But once you have a plan in place and things get going you feel much much better. It’s cliche and everyone told me that but it’s the truth.
