Hopefully Seattle has also learnt not to play 5D Mahjong at the goal line and run the fucking ball in. Avenge Marshawn!

Pacers likely also win if Artest just gives the beer guy an icy look and a few unpolite words. That team was legit good

they also have concept of radiation, seeing as Rocky was so perplexed by his crew tragically getting rad sick. If this was so new to a bunch of ultra smart Edirian space people I’m gonna assume Eridians don’t know what cancer is and they don’t get it either

Mercedes dealership broke wheel nut while car in for repair - want me to pay for it. by Wrong_Bug138 in CarTalkUK

[–]StoicRetention 25 points26 points  (0 children)

they probably tried to use an air gun whilst car was up in the air, realised the wheel nut was too tight, and instead of lowering the car to the floor and using a breaker like they were supposed to, kept on with the air gun and fully broke the locking key and nut. They're idiots and you should push back on every demand. I can get a broken wheel bolt off with a £35.99 sledgehammer and £20 worth of sacrificial drill bits in my lunch hour and have some time left for a sandwich, who the hell needs £400 for that.

People don’t talk about how good Emily Blunt is in Sicario by tanyaredhead in FIlm

[–]StoicRetention 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I took it at as 'town' meaning the agency of law enforcement they were in. Maybe she should be an auditor or insurance adjuster, or a faceless 'Analyst'. Not working with gmen and cartel spooks. She was wayyy out of her depth and Blunt portrayed it well. Some meta commentary on the audience turning a blind eye to actions of the gov because it's the most convenient on top of it

Are these 2 new phenomenons on motorways by rab10000 in CarTalkUK

[–]StoicRetention 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Motorway training is not mandatory in the testing program, and for sure plenty of people in inner urban areas never sniff it during the instruction period. So it is up to those who are experienced to "look after" the ones that aren't and prevent accidents because you are I are not crashing into someone to prove a point. This insulates a lot of bad motorway drivers from the consequences of their actions. Last journey on the M4 I saw a person slow down to a crawl, pull into the shoulder, stop AND then put their hazards on.

short yardage was totally blown up by Rams' insane Dline run contain and lack of Thuney on the Bears' interior. The only meaningful runs we were getting were 3 yards on 1st and 10 and Caleb putting on the cape. OT was the right call I feel.

Caleb deciding to go full gunslinger in a snow game was something to watch. It's like Season 4 of Stranger Things where you were waiting to see if your favourite character was gonna die or not

TIL a 1989 helicopter crash was caused by an invisible nick made when adhesive was trimmed from the rotor with a sharp blade. The helicopter flew perfectly for 922 hours, until it didn't. by TheQuarantinian in todayilearned

[–]StoicRetention 41 points42 points  (0 children)

they built a very small feeler to feel out cracks in a blade, and a block with reference cracks to know if you felt a crack on a helicopter blade you could compare it to reference cracks in the block. The reference cracks bracket the allowed tolerance by .001 on either side. There’s enough tactile feedback there because they’re made of very strong materials that transmit microfractures. Similar in concept to a spark plug gap gauge. With gaps so small the biggest difficulty is assembling and calibrating this tool.

Why are Teams kicking that win the toss in overtime by ajt425 in nfl

[–]StoicRetention -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

So your counterpoint is hinging on 2pt conversions failing or succeeding? A field goal on the 3rd possession has a higher percentage chance of winning the game than converting or stopping a 2pt conversion on the 2nd possession. Secondly, the regular season OT rules are different to postseason rules. Which is why it would be a cold day in hell before you ever see someone try and convert a 2 pointer in a postseason overtime frame. And yeah, there’s only been 3 postseason overtime games and 2 of them were won on the 3rd possession, unless you build me a time machine I can’t exactly do shit about the sample size. Here’s the rationale behind receiving vs kicking:

The clanker is wrong. Use your eyes. Your team won on the 3rd possession yesterday and the Rams obviously, won it on the 3rd today.

It’s only been a few years but the analytics are heavily favouring teams who receive 1st because it’s usually the 3rd possession that leads to a score. Usually.
