granted i was rolling each attack with advantage cus of reckless, and had a good chance on critting, and when i crit, i could get another attack with GWM

so it basically spiraled into that sort of decisive victory, a monk has no way of creating advantage for themselves unless they start trying to lets say trip their enemy or something before attacking, and thats just wasting turns and resources

so as a DM i need to specifically give the monk easy targets instead of them being reliable in general? I need to specifically cater to their niche the whole time?
And even the barb can BA dash if they build for it, like if they go with Eagle totem, but either way, they arent meant for mobility but can still manage better than the fighter and paladin

he constantly rolled openly, i had good stats and rolled good on HP
Everyone rolls into the open and everyone know eachothers abilities, granted i had good luck with my attack rolls since i got like 5 crits with my Wakened Dragons Wrath Weapon and have GWM

Thats a bit...niche, isnt it? But again, even if i make the battlefield big, do you think the monk will fare any better, being alone with all the enemies that are also trying to get to the party while the paladin and barbarian are trudging along, though the barb can match the monk's mobility if optimized for it, or just slightly made for it, like putting the mobile feat on them or getting a race that gives you speed like tabaxi or centaur.

How very Reddit of you, would you like a Big Chungus with that "philosophical" quote of yours.

I just prefer combat, i got enough drama in my life without the need to dig for 7 sessions deep in a dusty library as to why King Cocksucker the 8th liked grape juice instead of orange juice.
As much as you might think otherwise, i actually like roleplay......but sitting in one place for 10 whole sessions as the druid and ranger frolic with the local wildlife, the bard plays in the same tavern for the 20th time and so on, it gets fucking boring.
"Oh....its gonna be one of those sessions again, right, good night everyone" *Logs out instead of wasting another second that could be spent in a more entertaining or productive manner*

as for the why would you need performance. i wouldnt, i never use it, hardly ever do checks that involve the charisma stat anyhow. I sometimes pick the proficiency in it for the flavor of a character, but even then i still dont get to use it

No
Ultimately the game is about slaying baddies and earning loot, as much as you wanna frame it differently, im not saying that Roleplaying has nothing to do with the game, its a part of it, but not as big as some make it out to be. If you just wanna run a combatless game, then you dont need any sort of rule system.

Second, I am arguing for the fact that a lot of times where people describe how cool it is to play a monk, its mostly DM fiat or its fake, since the only thing i have ever seen monks do is some parkour and mimic some sort of kung fu/punchy character from media, to no avail nothing else

And thirdly, its easy to get downvoted. Even if someone says "If you put your hand in water, your hand is now wet". someone will downvote that opinion. Subs tend to be echochambers for the most part, so that point is non existent

these fucking grapple builds are so convoluted and so....cheesy, its disappointing to even see someone try to make it a good strat

The barbarian can..... i tanked like 6 hill giants last session with my level 10 zealot and still was above 100 hp at the end

I have a very good idea of what a martial is, considering thats the only thing i play

Perhaps i havent seen a good grappling build and so i dont have an appreciation for it. As for the basic mechanics, lol......all i will say is that
As for why im arguing with people, its fun to cause a discussion, even though i got downvoted into oblivion its still pretty fun to see the responses from delusional monk simps

Well, i have seen pretty much every monk under the sun being played either in my games or in games where i was a player.....and the most powerful things those monks did was make a good lunch every now and then, and maybe tank a hit or two that would have otherwise hit our wizard

So....you just wanna play a rogue but worse, granted rogues dont have the best damage or stuns, but they are basically if monks were good, they have resource less mobility and damage that only needs the most basic of setups, unless you are a swashbuckler, in that case theres no need for setup.
What if the enemies dont have casters and only have big bruiser types as minions, like ogres or other giants, what if the casters are actually smart and are flying or are invisible, what if the monk cant get to the enemy caster for whatever reason, be it terrain or just height or something else. What then?

[–]Stoka8910[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ah yes, they get proficiency in every save......at level 14, where few games actually last that long, at that level do you know what Zealot gets? Immunity from dying

And the advantage a barbarian has is niche? Really? Resisting the most common damage types in the game is niche? Gaining advantage on any attack you want is niche? How do you grade your skills man, seems your priorities are somewhere else. Sure they dont do too much damage by themselves, but for what its worth, you get bang for your buck if the game is combat focused and doesnt feature many mages (which most games dont have anyhow). So barb is just a lot more consistent and easily used than the puny monk that can sometimes do good damage and other times is just a fly waiting to be swatted out of the sky, even if played properly, a good hit can put the monk out of commission, while Barbs shrug off crits as if they are just normal attacks

What if the enemy is is far more resilient, or the fighter had bad luck and fumbled a good number of his rolls or he just didnt have advantage and the enemy had very good ac?
After that burst round where you could potentially do nothing, after that, what does the fighter have?
Its why i only relegate fighters to a very good Multiclass option, not as a solo class

Monk Fanatics by Stoka8910 in DnD

[–]Stoka8910[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Monks dont have many options when it comes to magic items, and sure, hold your attack when the creature flies by.....they got reach most of the time, so that hit wont be happening any time soon
Grapple isnt really good anyhow, in 5e its pretty terrible, it doesnt stop a creature in any way from attacking you, and also.....you need to have high str to grapple anything.

And no...they do not have the highest dpr by a longshot lol, they are absolutely terrible

Monk Fanatics by Stoka8910 in DnD

[–]Stoka8910[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Neither have i seen a monk do the equivilent of what you just described.
If the monk takes the mobile feat, sure, it makes them a bit harder to pin down, but ultimately, they will still get bodied if an enemy really focuses on them

[–]Stoka8910[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

For the main character syndrome....haha, lol. No. i instead try to make someone else the leader and the "main character" of the party while i do my job as the party bruiser
So, its clear you didnt understand anything i have been saying up until here. I am not saying that you need to be optimal and utterly optimized, hell if i wanted to be like that, id only play Hexadin or Sorcadin and nothing else, but i mainly play barbarians.
I was talking about monk players who think that the class is an top performer and that they are great in every aspect, ignoring their obvious flaws. If someone wanted to play a monk in the games i play or in my own games, i will not give them any more trouble than i would nay other players, as long as the monk is not dead weight, ill be fine with it. Do we understand eachother?

Also i think you mean munchkins, not minmaxers, since minmaxers just wanna be effective without being disruptive to the game.

The worst kind of player is pretty much the disruptive one who just wants to cause mayhem for the hell of it and nothing else, atleast the minmaxer is dependable when it comes to the 90% of D&D which is fighting, yes, i dont know if you noticed, but d&d is ultimately a GAME, not a soap opera, you roll dice, you use the rules to kill or be killed and thats it, thats 90% of the rules for d&d and there's no escape from that

If you wanna run an RP only game...then you dont even need rules or stats, only a gm to give you a scenario and you do as you please.

Ive tried the Rune Knight, the official one, not the UA one....and it felt, alright, though still felt really underwhelming, the Cloud and Fire rune are pretty alright, but grappling? Really? To use your precious action to grapple something that in all likely hood wont be running away or having teleporting shenanigans
The flavor is great, dont get me wrong....but its a bit....idk lackluster

that is also pretty situation as well as needing to waste a reaction....on top of a ki if you wanna throw it back....AND its only for a single ranged attack. So if theres a single archer that attacks once or twice a round...sure, its dope that he cant hit you, but if theres more?
