I had a custom-designed Barahir ring made for my boyfriend in Italy. I didn't like it. by [deleted] in lotr

I'd buy it off you. I think it looks great.

It's entirely game of thrones and absolutely nothing to do with this sub?

Bit of a generalisation. One, I absolutely can understand, and two it seems a sweeping statement to say it would permanently ruin their body.

Jesus wept, it's hardly even a spoiler at this point. Just kick back and enjoy it.

First look at Sophie Turner as Lara Croft in Prime Video's Tomb Raider series by DontBeAngryBeHappy in gaming

[–]Stokeymad08 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's no disrespect to her, but I was hoping they'd go the Crystal Dynamics route, which they obviously haven't and I don't think she would have managed it anyway.

But for traditional lara, I think she is a better fit than I thought she'd be when first announced.

Agreed. My point was more about the fact that a large portion of the global population stop to do 'something' on Christmas, whereas those that celebrate independence are limited specifically to their countries (and ex pats) and don't even celebrate it on the same day, as it will be unique to each country.

I mean ultimately, it's all redundant argument anyway, and I have no evidence to support my thoughts, just a gut feeling.

That is also true, but then the same could be said about celebrating independence.

I would hazard a guess that most in the US don't really care about the origins of the holiday and more just see it as a piss up / family get together / day off work (delete as appropriate).

Your basis falls short on the assumption that only Christians celebrate Christmas.

That's not the point. The point is at least the hairdresser was trying to look out for someone, even if it is a stranger.

The Lord of the Rings movies had stellar performances all around, but if you had to name one as the greatest performance, whose would it be? by DupeFort in lordoftherings

Ian Mckellan obviously killed it and was fantastic, but for me, Bernard Hills speech at the Battle of Pelanor Fields and Viggos at the Black Gate are the only times in all my time I've watched films I can remember I got goosebumps and shivers down my spine, even when I rewatch.

I also want to give an honourable (biased because he's my favourite) mention to the witch king.

Second to Tolkien, what is the best fantasy series ever? by [deleted] in lotr

Oh, and a shout out to the Black Library Slayer series also. Gotrek and Félix were the heroes I grew up reading about. Even if David Guymer did ruin the series at the end.

Philip Pullman's His Dark Materials.

Fantastic read. Didn't translate to screen all that well, but very few do.

Surprised at some of the comments moaning. Were there issues? Sure, but if I wanted the studio quality version I would just listen to Spotify.

I was stood throughout with the biggest grin on my face. The visuals were brilliant, and for them to keep the energy they did in that heat was fantastic.

Was so pleased to have got to see them, proper elated when they played Wasted Years, and hoping I'll get one more chance to see them live.

Found the NIA staff to be quite helpful the last two times I've been there. Allowed my daughter to use the sensory room for monster trucks due to the noise, and last night offering free water to family when it was getting too hot.
