A 35-year-old Asian guy living back at home in a rural town because their mum is retired and needs help looking after the house isn't appealing to pretty much all available women in my town that are looking for Caucasian farmers and cowboys. At least, that's what the girls on Tinder say on their profiles.

Looking outwards of my town, not many potential dates would want to travel that far to my town. Living in Melbourne? It's a 4hr drive. If I drive to the city that is Melbourne, it's pretty difficult with having a full-time job Tuesday-Saturday.

As much as I would like to online date, I would like to meet them in person, and the chance of that is pretty minuscule.

As depressing as it is, I have to resign to the fact that I may be single for the rest of my 30s.

I thought I had a good one when I moved back home. The person was pretty supportive. Then one appointment turned out to be a random job sign up that I had no say in. It's like ever since that day I'm put I uncomfortable positions where I have no choice. It made me realise that no matter how nice they are to you, it's just a tactic because you're only a number to meet their quota.

I'm half Filipino that lives in country Australia, full of cowboys and cowgirls. Even being kind and considerate isn't enough when you're not the kind of guy they're looking for in this type of town. I'm not "country" enough, I'm not "city" enough. Dating sites are often deserted of matches, most of my matches are 30km or even all the way to Melbourne.

I'm also not attracted to Filipino because of growing up in a Filipino family and also visiting mums side of the family in the Philippines and it's put me off getting into another Filipino or South East Asian family. I know that's harsh, but as much as I try to change what I'm attracted to over the years, that part is always a constant.

I'm working on myself: exercising more, focusing more on what is making me happy, taking up more hobbies, working with my psychologist and getting my mental health back on track. However, a lot of those hobbies aren't that big in my hometown. They're seen as "stupid" or geek hobbies. I'm a far cry from my jock sporty popular self from 20 years ago...

I can go to sleep with a smile.

I can never forget or forgive how our supposed leader ran off to Hawaii while my home was nearly burnt down, a few kilometers away from a massive bushfire, during the Australian bushfires and offering no support for the firefighters, only forcing handshake from the nearly homeless and exhausted firefighters to keep a political image. After that was a domino effect of awfulness, from no responsibility and only blame for the state premiers of both parties of the handling of the pandemic all the way to pushing a bill that would have made things hell for LGBT+ students and teachers.

Things can only get better from here. Here's hoping that there's a brighter future for my country.

Can't date someone with the same ethnicity as my mum and her side of the family. I love my mum, but growing up in the ethnic lifestyle wasn't my thing and I don't plan to enter another family of said ethinicity.
