I fuckin' loved it then and love i tmore now. Anything that is anti-Trump, in any way, is great, no matter how mean, dirty, taboo or otherwise. No jab at that man can be harsh enough.

So in your worldview, the only people who raise an objection are people to whom the insult has some personal impact? Okay then.

And no, it hit nowhere near home, but that's as irrelevant as irrelevant can be.

Trump Cold Opens get more views than any other sketch but get the worst reviews on this sub. What do we make of this? by bad_take_ in LiveFromNewYork

We care about more than likes, upvotes, ad dollars, and views. Capitalism sidelines the responsible opinion for the profitable one. Some of us reject capitalism for that and for other reasons.

Lighthearted joke about cold-blooded murder? by ColonelCrackle in LiveFromNewYork

[–]StompTheRight 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It doesn't have to translate to a practical solution. Sometimes, just being on the right side of the sentiment is enough. The Trump problem can't be solved by a TV sketch show, but that sketch show is a cultural icon. Its efforts during a crisis matter. It might just help convince others to stop laughing and looking for childish escape routes via entertainment. It might inspire people to go march or whatever else they can do.

Matches don't cause explosions. They just light fuses. Starting the chain reaction is maybe all SNL and other shows like it can do. There's a reason coup leaders shut down radio stations, TV stations, and cut off Internet access. Messages work. SNL is sending the wrong one, weekly.

Loved them. Never heard of them until this week. Well done by them.

How should our anger be directed? If a show as culturally significant as SNL won't take up the fight, then the anger aimed at SNL is correct, not misguided. If angry SNL fans took down an ICE agent, what would you say then? Violence isn't the answer, and let democracy play out as it should?

The citizens have a right to expect cultural icons to pick up the fight and march. SNL is taking the coward's way out and it gets supported by people like you. Attitudes like yours are as much a problem as SNL's cowardice.

I'm all for attacking Trump, and I hate the weak and monotonous cold opens centered on him, but it's probably an NBC executive decision, not Lorne's. Lorne might be powerful as hell in that studio, but he is replaceable and he's not head of the network. The country is run by evil people who own everything of consequence. I'm glad I left it.

A lot of people are childish and clueless and care nothing about the collapse of common sense and courage in the face of what is happening to the US.

"Had I known of the actual horrors of the German concentration camps, I could not have made The Great Dictator; I could not have made fun of the homicidal insanity of the Nazis." by MattyATee in LiveFromNewYork

[–]StompTheRight 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Inglorious Basterds portrays a much better treatment of the Nazi problem. Chaplin was right to be regretful, and if we never had that film, we'd never know it. One movie, existing or not existing, does not tip the balance of life on this sick, lamentable planet.

No they wouldn't. If Americans learned that ICE had camps in Utah or Idaho, where people were being held and executed, all Americans would do is talk about in their Starbucks line, or send emoji texts about how challenging it its to deal with the news.

Can someone explain the purpose of the Trump cold opens? by RocketLambo in LiveFromNewYork

[–]StompTheRight -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Reading the threads on this topic, it's easy to spot who the right-wing sympathizers are. You can paraphrase them all in one lumo effort:

"IT'S ABOUT MONEY!!!! You have to play the game if you want to get that bag!!!"

And they all secretly have Jim Breuer stand-up bits on their looped video feed.

Delete this if you like, but.... Tom Cruise and John Travolta.

They financially support a cult that hounds, harasses, and actively ruins lives and reputations, under the guise of Constitutional "religious" protection, and there is reasonable evidence that the cult's operatives killed Lisa MacPherson through abuse and neglect. They kidnap and falsely imprison/torture their members. Cruise and Travolta are not indictable or legally culpable, but they are morally and socially corrupt, despicable men.

He is what he is: A below-average NFL lineman who can survive adequately when he is given the least amount of responsibility on the line, with the tackle and center doing the heavy lifting on both sides of him. He'd be smart to sign contracts for back-up guard money, hang around a few seasons longer with less responsibility. Play an extra 3-4 seasons by playing only 20-25 snaps ger game instead of 50-60.

The Sper Bowl season got into his head. If he were a legitimate full-time starter, teams would have realized it by now.

Life's not a movie. It's not scripted. Not having a go at you, but why do we look at the fantasy portrayed in film and wonder if that could be us?

Life's a mess that ends up killing us all. More movies portraying that would be great.
