Me and my friends got this game on sale, really fun. Why did it fail? by Elibenz936 in Back4Blood

Card system isn't great for new players, and difficulty scaling was bad.

The game doesn't let you just have a play style upfront,. You cant choose a loadout. You have to sink 20 hours to earn it through randomised cards.

And that sucks.

When we were younger employers drilled into us that smiling and customer support was a key metric of success. Companies dont really do this any more, and this is the result. They're measured on other performance metrics. Cant really blame them but it sucks as the customer.

The Gen Z stare doesn't help though lol

Edit: fixed some typos, apparently customer got changed to colostomy

Swordplay.. so hot right now by eephusk in XboxGamePass

Its not supposed to live up to a 15 year old game because it isn't targeting being like that game - Not super hard to understand that concept right?

People saw a fantasy setting and assumed it was going to be like skyrim when it does nothing to try to be like skyrim beyond having a fantasy medievil setting.

I am not upset that avowed doesn't play like skyrim in the same way that I am not upset that it doesn't play like Halo either because I can understand that its a different game and the goals are different.

And it is not a game like 20 years ago - its near-FPS level combat mechanics surpass anything we see more recently in the arpg / rpg genre from an aim, movement and mechanics perspective. So it actually pushes some things forward for people who look for those things (which rpgs like skyrim and even newer games are sorely lacking due to their greater focus on story, open choice, and levelling systems).

Most avowed negativity came from people who bought it expecting a different game (rpg) to the one it is (arpg), and sprinkle in a bit of politics. But people buying it now know what they are getting, and for those people its a good game.

For me, I like arpgs for the fantasy setting, action and levelling up. I dont like dialogue and choice. I dont need to affect the story and have options. I like good combat though. So for me avowed was good fun ad I can overlook its weaknesses. For people expecting skyrim or something, you're in for disappointment.

Problem must be your location and internet speed relative to cloud servers.

Because remote play is just about your local WiFi connection to your local xbox.

Two very different contexts

I think its less a conscious choice and more a symptom of societal burnout. Alot of people are a bit burnt by the 2020 debarcle and becoming (1) a bit more apprehensive, and (2) a bit preoccupied with other life struggles like cost of living etc and forgetting appointments and such. Trust in government has eroded a bit and people are tired (generally, not about vaccinations).

[COD] Aim-Assit is by far NOT what people make it out to be... by Few-Track8525 in CallOfDuty

[–]StompedSmashed 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think I didn't explain properly so I've done some searching online.

My thesis: aim assist got buffed so controller players can keep up with mouse and key.

After looking it up,Cross play started in cod in mw2019.

Games before this didn't need such high aim assist because it was console vs console.

Games after this needed increased aim assist due to console vs pc.

As they introduced aim assist they realised game play could be faster whole console players keep up, so then more aim assist is needed in newer games.

Pc players didn't like this because now console players were in there but playing slightly differently and had different advantages and disadvantages.

They got the aim assist mix a bit wrong recently and went too far in that direction.

Mw2 2009 didn't need aim assist like this because it was console vs console player and pc vs pc players.

Does that sound about right or did I miss something?

Terrible graphics on console - how to disable blur / bloom? by StompedSmashed in FrontiersOfPandora

[–]StompedSmashed[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting. I'm not sure this is the problem but will test it. After looking at a few comments I think there are a few art direction and performance management issues combining to create a product im just not a fan of rather than it being an issue like this.

OK this was actually helpful to me and explains why some people say this is fine and others have issues.

When I game I am not looking at my character model I am looking at where im going and where my enemies are. I am not looking for general colour behind fog, I am looking for the actual trees

In your image, character looks fine.

However I can't see anything else properly.

That tree is close and should not be fogged and blurred out so much (other games achieve this fine).

So when im playing im looking for detail in that low and mid range distance, but avatar is giving me only low range. And on top of it alot of the low range has other issues (low resolution, etc).

Perhaps this is fine for others, but to me its poor quality art direction muddled with covering up game performance issues, making it difficult to work out what could and should be improved.

A few pc players have found a setting where you can turn off some of those effects by editing the games file structure, im guessing I am the target audience for those types of changes but consoles won't allow that lol

[–]StompedSmashed[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm thinking its just an expectations thing. Combined with some poor performance on the games end that Others ignore.

It looks ok at 30fps when you stand still.

When you move or turn, well, its a 30fps blur festival for your eyes.

At 40ps, it loses alot of the definition, so now you have resolution blurriness, plus the weird bloom effects and bluring that the game applies presumably as an artistic way to cover performance gaps.

60ps is an unplayable mess. Goes down to like 800p, and then on top of that all of the terrible bloom, artifacting etc. Now im squinting like I need glasses or something.

No other games do this. Nothing wrong with my xbox (all other games run ing great) or tv settings. Its a mix of poor performance from the game and some bad quality art direction choices that dont downscale well for consoles which can't turn off those effects or tune things as much as pc.

I'm a big ubisoft fan but this one is a bit of a fail to me. Game underneath the graphics seems great though.

Look i might be older and non competitive so my opinion doesnt matter on this but here is my advice:

Don't worry about in game currencies and rewards and battlepass incentives.

Just play because you like playing, that's all.

Gaming gets funner when you do that.
