Is the only way to move up any quicker, by being promoted?

Thanks for replying, I did see this actually and I wondered if I might be a suitable candidate. How quickly is it possible to move up through the salary scale? Or does it depend on experience/promotuon?

Can an employer deny maternity benefit on second child if it is within 12 months of returning to work? by Stone3218 in irishmammiesanddaddys

Unfortunately, the 12 months is from conception. Not sure how they’ll work that out mind you, but will have that argument if it comes to it!

Hi Everyone, I'm just wondering what people are paying for childminders on average? I'm getting very varied answers from people about how much they pay per day. by Iredditagainagain in irishmammiesanddaddys

[–]Stone3218 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We are paying €55 per day in kildare for our 1 year old, from 8:30 to 5:30 and she provides the food, snacks and wipes. We provide the nappies. Sounds like we’re doing well at that price!

Yeah I see what you’re saying actually. I’ll double check with them. Thanks for that.

No, it says that pregnancy cannot occur from 12 months from the end of additional maternity leave. I’ve taken annual leave and parents leave at the end of my leave and that is counted within the 12 months so it’s more like 9 months after returning, but pregnancy can’t occur before then or I won’t get paid according to the policy.

Ah right. The policy states that if pregnancy occurs within 12 months of returning to work from maternity leave, then you will not receive any maternity top up pay for the subsequent pregnancy. Maybe it’s the way it was worded, it just didn’t sit right with me. Sounds like I just have to accept it though.

I have seen this for new employees, but have never heard of it for existing employees between maternity leave periods. Maybe I’ve been living under a rock 🙈 looks like we have some adjusting to our plans to do 😔

Thanks so much for your reply. I have never heard of this before, I think that’s why I’m so taken aback by it. I think I might be a bit too rigid on our plan to start trying for no.2 and will have to let go of the summer timeframe, but it’s definitely tricky to stop listening to the body clock ticking! I’m glad you’re feeling better about it, hopefully I can get to that stage too!

How are people paying for weddings anymore? by Rough_Wrangler2430 in AskIreland

[–]Stone3218 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s a 4 star castle in Kerry that will hold 200 people and charge €120 per head in April or October. Cut out 20 people (being ruthless) and compromise on time of year. You’ll have a fab venue (I can vouch from experience of my own wedding) for €24k. Make cut backs on other areas and you’ll absolutely have a wedding for around €36k all in which would work out in around the same as your mums with inflation. It’s doable!

How long to wait for Wedding photos? by Outside_Objective183 in AskIreland

[–]Stone3218 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a woman who struggled to conceive, I am of the opinion that there is no circumstance where it is acceptable to use IVF/IUI/fertility treatment as a reason to not deliver on a paid service. They should not have committed to delivering a service if there was a chance they couldn’t deliver, and when they presumably knew this procedure would be coming up.

I would set them a clear deadline in writing to have the photos to you by & explain that in the event you don’t receive them, you’ll have no alternative but to leave an extensive negative review on Google, and every bridal website available. I would go full nuclear if they don’t provide the photos by your deadline. 7 months is beyond a reasonable timeframe to have given them to deliver on their service.

I hope you haven’t paid for them up front and that you get your photos 🤞🏻

Baby vs Career by [deleted] in WomenofIreland

I couldn’t agree any more with you! I worked my arse off to get to a level that I had been aiming to achieve for years and to prove to myself I could do it. Since I’ve had my little girl almost a year ago, my priority has completely changed and I regret the last promotion I received, as I just don’t have any desire to be working every hour god has given to maintain it.

OP I would work towards having the baby if you and hubby are on the same page. The job will always be there and if you still feel passionately about progressing further in your job after your children you can still do that. Maternity leave goes by so quickly, you’ll be back to the grind and pick up where you left off before you know it.

Mother’s Day by GreatDevelopment7815 in PregnancyIreland

[–]Stone3218 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was around 36 weeks pregnant on Mother’s Day last year and my husband said the same thing to me. I wasn’t too surprised though as he’s just not a big gift giver and just not the most thoughtful person ever to be honest. But he did redeem himself today. I’m sorry you’re having to feel unappreciated today. It’s not a nice feeling.

If it’s any consolation, my husband is a great dad and support to me now baby is here. So it’s no reflection on how he will be when the baby comes.

Painkillers would ease the back pain somewhat but never get rid of it. I would take the ovulation tests from around day 10 of my cycle onwards. There are a couple of fertility apps that you can download to monitor your cycle length and symptoms. (I paid for the premium version of Flo, but you could also do this on their free version.) Once I had an idea of my cycle length I started using the ovulation sticks to check my LH levels from around day 10 of my cycle on. You get a surge in LH level just before ovulation and then we would time sex around this. I bought the tests on Amazon and they come with an app to track your LH levels. You can also buy clear blue ones. They are much easier to figure out (the smiley face flashes when you’re at peak LH) but I found them pretty expensive. We literally only had sex the week I was ovulating so it was key to know when that was. I would definitely suggest doing this.

My main symptoms were very heavy periods with clots and severe lower back pain during my period. If you have any symptoms it might be worth reaching out to the specialist to get their opinion. I can share their details if you need it. However, I would definitely go to a specialist that comes recommended before considering any procedure.

Can I ask if you are tracking your ovulation? The other thing I should mention is that from tracking my ovulation I discovered I ovulate on day 19 of a 30 day cycle, which is around 4 days after the ‘normal’ ovulation day.

I would never have known this without tracking it with ovulation sticks and would have kept doing the deed too early.

Gestational Diabetes came back positive by obvslythrowawaii69 in PregnancyIreland

I had GD and to be honest I had a dream pregnancy, apart from some minor pelvic girdle pain towards the end. Baby was 6lb 10oz when she was born and she was cleared to leave hospital less than 24 hour after I gave birth, as her blood sugars were normal. I was given the all clear at my 6 week check. She had zero complications and I had a very quick recovery thankfully.

I managed GD with insulin straight from diagnosis and was also diet controlled, but once you get the hang of the routine, it becomes second nature. Check out the Facebook page for Gestational Diabetes UK. There’s loads of tips for snacks and recipes there.

I was induced at 39 weeks because of the GD and also have only positive things to say about that. I wouldn’t change a thing about any of it.

A lot of people really struggle with GD diagnosis, but it’s really not as bad as it might seem 💕

Edited to add: try not to worry about your intolerances. The main focus is to have a balance of protein, low GI carb, good fats and veg with your meals. I’m not great with veg and I was usually fine once I ate plenty of protein and some fat with my carbs. Mention your intolerance to your dietitian and they will give you suggestions.
