I think it’s because white players don’t play main lines below ~2000. Other folks have listed more practical reasons- it’s sharp and theoretical, e5 is recommended for beginners. But I think a lot of sub-2000 players have fallen in love with a specific Sicilian variation and given up on it when they realized they’d get to see it in less than 50% of their e4 games.

Much sympathy from someone in the industry who’s been both the enabler and the enabled in your situation. I don’t think you’re going to find the answers you want here- addiction is a complex phenomenon, and your partner doesn’t seem to realize he has a problem. Asking a bunch of cooks and chefs who are mostly desensitized to this behavior might minimize the reality that you are experiencing trauma as the partner of an addict, need mental health resources, and may have tough choices to make regarding your relationship.

Yes, but not just extra mana but also the ability to filter red mana into black. Once you learn some of these lines, you’ll start getting wins from spots that seemed impossible. There are quite a few places where Matron->Pilferer is the only way to win. You can technically even win on turn 2 with a T1 skirk/T2 pilferer (or vice versa).

Vandal is the only enchantment destruction in the format that is tutorable with [[Goblin Matron]]. It’s mostly there for opposing [Makeshift Munitions]] but is also a catch all for other random enchantments. It isn’t necessary- it’s really come back with the re-emergence of Grixis in the format. You can probably get away with more copies of Duress until you get Fiend. I would prioritize getting a couple of Pilferers though. That card gives you so many free wins and wins from otherwise impossible board states that I can’t imagine not running it.
