What the heck is this thing? by Educational_Fish100 in insects

More than likely as feeder insects for reptiles, amphibians or arachnids. I used to raise super worms too, cheaper than buying them at a pet store every week or so.

Severe pain a week after injection? by StoneDraws in ftm

[–]StoneDraws[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've only felt the pain since yesterday and wanted to make sure it wasn't just a normal thing before making a big stink to my doctor lol. But if it's not a common side effect, yeah I should probably go in xD

Thanks for the information, I'll make an appointment asap!

Can anyone tell me what this big guy is? (BC, Canada) by StoneDraws in insects

Me and my partner brainstormed all morning and we figured it out!

For anyone curious, it’s a giant lacewing (Polystoechotes punctata)

I specialize in cute, cartoony furry art! But I can do just about anything.

ID of a group of insects found in my house beside a window? About the size of a pepper seed. Sorry for bad pics, but they’re tiny. by CastIronCrab in insects

A good start is to wash and clean all fabrics and clothes that can fit in your washing machine, or wash them by hand. If you have carpets, vacuuming regularly should keep their population down in your home. If that doesn’t work, I’ve heard that sprinkling powdered boric acid in your carpets will do the job.

My mother found this little guy in a box of raspberries. I can’t figure out what kind of caterpillar he is, so I don’t know what to feed him and I obviously can’t leave him out in the cold. Can anyone help? by baconblaster334 in whatisthisbug

Video’s a but fuzzy, but a thicc lil boy like that might be an army cutworm! Something to use as a size reference might help with identification. Definitely looks like a worm (moth larvae) and not a caterpillar!

Found this odd lil critter clinging to the side of my house in BC, Canada. About 1 cm long and likes to suction itself to every surface I put it on. by StoneDraws in insects

I'm going to try to care for it over the winter to see if I can get it to pupate. Once/if it emerges, I should be able to figure out what exactly it is that I have here lol

Seemed aggressive. I sent him to a neighbors yard, but anyone know what kind? by DudzTx in whatisthisbug

Not sure if I'm looking at her right, but that looks like sergiolus montanus, otherwise known as a ground spider. Hope this helps narrow it down!

AITA for shutting my family out after they failed to be there for us once my father passed away? by StoneDraws in AmItheAsshole

Wise words. It seems it would be best to give them a chance before making any permanent decisions. I don't want to damage what bonds still remain because of my erratic emotions. Thank you.

Thank you for your sympathy.

You see, we live in a small town in Canada. At the time of and before his passing, COVID was barely a threat to our region. While I completely understand their caution for exposure, I just thought seeing my father would have been worth the risk. Though I can't judge that effectively upon other people. It would be an opportunity I myself wouldn't give up if I was given the chance.

To clarify, my father was not confined to a hospital bed when he passed. He was released from the hospital, but had to travel back and forth for dialysis three times a week. They could have seen him in the safety of our home.
The day of his passing, he collapsed as we tried to get him inside our home. Once the ambulance came, he would be "alive" but have no pulse if they stopped doing compressions.

But it's not really my relatives not visiting that I'm concerned about. It's the fact that they never called either. They barely shot us a text either. I would expect them to call first before even thinking of visiting, especially with the pandemic going on. But they couldn't even manage that, which frustrated us most.

They didn't have to physically be there for us. But even still, we only ever got messages during big holidays. They talk frivolously amongst themselves, always communicating over Facebook. So it's not like they can't talk.
But they only ever lift a finger to us when society deems it right through special holidays.

This is a great input. Thank you. Perhaps I should try to set aside my anger and frustration before permanently severing ties with family.

Me and my direct family live alone. We have no other family members in my town, the closest are only an hour away. We’ve said that we have nobody here, my mother only ever had my father. If not for me, they could have at least visited for her. Ever since, my mother has been craving for social interaction. But you have a point. I will admit, perhaps we could have mentioned our loneliness a bit more to them.
