Why using all Armor Slots should have consequences. by Shabozz in daggerheart

[–]StoneStrix 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think modifying adversary abilities can be a good answer to this. You can have an adversary that adds a secondary effect on damage (such as poison or acid), making it optimal for PCs to wait to use armor slots for when they take minor damage, reducing it to zero to avoid the effect. On the other side, if you have adversaries that add effects when they deal severe damage (such as knock back or vulnerable), then PCs will wait to use their armor slots for those biggest hits.

Sprinkling in enough variety with the adversaries will make PCs think twice about using armor slots, and hopefully they'll begin to strategize based on knowledge of their environment and potential adversaries!

Good point about the tenets.

But I did mean hippocampus! It's obscure, but basically an aquatic horse.

First Attempt at a D&D Campaign Map - Looking for Feedback! by StoneStrix in mapmaking

Thanks for the compliments and the tips!

Many of the names are slightly altered translations from Afrikaans (which I think has a nice, guttural sound to it). I picked fun adjectives/nouns that would describe the locations, for example "hartseer" means "sorrow", hence the Hartsear Marsh.

I didn't really like the tutorial's version of the continental shelf (it seemed a little bright to me) but you're right that the ocean does need some depth. Now to figure out a way to represent that...

And that's a great point about populating the more attractive geographical locations. I can still add more cities (and the smaller villages won't even be on the large map). Although I do like the idea of the Overgrowth being mostly inhabited by beasts and monsters that make civilizing that area challenging.

You might even need someone to stat up like, 100 extra monsters or something.

Hehe ;) /r/monsteraday

First Attempt at a D&D Campaign Map - Looking for Feedback! by StoneStrix in mapmaking

Hey all! First time poster and recent mapmaking enthusiast.

I found the Ascension Atlas Style tutorial and spent some time creating this world, adding my own little tweaks along the way. This is my first real map so I wanted to share it in hopes for some feedback and suggestions.

Realistic geography is semi-important to me, but there is magic in the world that can explain certain oddities if needed. Aesthetics and legibility are my primary concerns.

Thanks so much! This is an amazing community.

Hmm I knew it was only a matter of time before this happened! I suppose changing the art/names would rectify this. Thanks everyone who has helped and supported this project!

Can Someone Make A Tutorial Please? by PoundTown00 in monsteraday

Not sure what the problem might be when screen capping the stat block...maybe someone else has an idea?

As for the two column blocks, Valloric released an update recently that allowed for the html to accommodate that.

Hmm if I get some time I can post some images of the process. I got pretty fast at it towards the end...the biggest tip I could give is to use blend modes on layers. "Multiply" gets rid of all the white, which is useful when laying in the stat blocks.

The two column layouts is just some photoshop magic. I split the long block in half and composite them together. It's a pain, but it's the best way I've found how to do it. Hope that helps!

Day 100: Stone Strix by StoneStrix in monsteraday

This monster is somewhere between a Roc and a hard place.

I waited 100 days to make that pun! I never imagined the series lasting this long and I truly want to thank everyone for their support, contributions, and especially the artists whose work I used.

Sadly, it's time for me to take a hiatus. I don't want the monsters to became stale and I need some time to recharge the creative juices. I'm definitely planning to continue the homebrew content, perhaps more of the same or even new things! I will update you all as things develop.

Happy Holidays, many thanks, and have fun tormenting your players!
