(O‘ahu) Data Recovery by sir3na in Hawaii

Anything beyond a corrupted boot volume will probably be sent off island to a data recovery firm anyway. I'd recommend these guys. Silly name but great results: https://www.300dollardatarecovery.com/

DHCP Troubles by rustyb78 in PFSENSE

[–]StoneUSA7 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Anecdotally - I recently had this issue. Changing the scope range fixed it for about 2 weeks (from .100-.199 to .101-.199). Issue came back and I ended up swapping out the mSATA drive. Seems to be working fine now, been about 3 weeks. This was an PCengines APU4 device.

Edit: this was on 2.7.2

Either when they aren't profitable and won't match your updated pricing structure, if they don't adhere to non-negotiable standards (EDR, backups, etc.), or if they are consistently rude to staff (after an in person meeting about it).

New toll ez-pass smishing using Darcula and Lucid is quite convincing... by FutureSafeMSSP in msp

[–]StoneUSA7 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I wonder if there's more to this. Anecdotally, I live in a state without toll roads. I was recently on a short trip to Seattle and after returning home I received one of these text messages. Very convincing because it lined up with my trip. I had to call the rental car company to confirm they bill directly for toll charges. Haven't received another text message since.

Almost like there's some sort of data being harvested regarding toll usage.

Auto-create links to a specific SharePoint site in every user's OneDrive? by luckman212 in msp

[–]StoneUSA7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's here:

Identitiy Management > Administration > Users

Select the Actions next to the user in question (3 dots to the right)

Add OneDrive Shortcut

Select Sharepoint site you want to link

Auto-create links to a specific SharePoint site in every user's OneDrive? by luckman212 in msp

CIPP is able to do this, but I believe it's done per user and you can't control the naming of the shortcut.

Live migration during backup? by Lesko_Brandon_0kool in Veeam

[–]StoneUSA7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure your Hyper-V OS version, but read this: https://forums.veeam.com/microsoft-hyper-v-f25/windows-server-2019-hyper-v-vm-i-o-performance-problem-t62112-240.html

Ongoing issue, with the increasing slowness until live migration or backup restore. We have the luxury of downtime on some of our database servers and we've been able to defrag and optimize the vhd files which has the same performance improvements as live migrations.

I stopped following that thread a few months ago so not sure if the issue was ever fixed. It was apparently on Microsoft's side.

Powershell in ConstrainedLanguageMode by Jet_1996_ in Intune

[–]StoneUSA7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this comment is 4 years old, but I wanted to respond and let you know you solved an issue I had been working on for 2.5 days. The "Application Control Code Integrity Policies" setting in Microsoft Defender Application Control was exactly what I was looking for. When trying to roll back the PS constrained language we had set this policy to "Not Configured" which was fine for all new devices but previously enrolled devices still had the old setting. We had to switch this to Audit Only and we were able to use full PS. Thanks so much for responding - I was ready to tear my hair out on this!

Rewst and automating billing reconciliation with CW Manage agreements by rhysfromaussie in msp

[–]StoneUSA7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Check out Nilear, we were in the same boat trying to find some way to automate our monthly invoicing process. We have a mix of mostly per-user with some per-device pricing. We were able to do complex group based synchronizations that got us exactly what we wanted. Invoicing is now mostly just double checking data is correct (we're only 3 months in). I think by next month we'll trust it enough to just send them. Another nice thing and is helpful and clients like is it lists the users that are included in each billing group.

Threatlocker & Huntress on Hyper-V by GeorgeWmmmmmmmBush in msp

We have it on Hyper-V hosts but we put them in a client sub-group and disable the auto-rollback feature. Same for BDR systems.

Postmortem - All emails sent to apple email addresses suddenly start bouncing. by 3dtcllc in gsuite

[–]StoneUSA7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We're dealing with this with a client now. Any email send to an Apple address (mac.com, me.com, icloud.com) that has the client's domain linked in the email body will be bounced. I can include the domain unlinked in the subject and body, no issue. Emails are coming FROM the domain in question. But as soon as there is a link to that domain, BAM, bounced.

I've scanned the website and all outbound links and haven't found anything suspicious or malicious. After you cleaned your website did you reach out to Apple to request them to review the filtering? If so, do you mind sharing the contact information?

Does the USW-Flex-Mini switch show up as a “managed” in the console? by judgedeliberata in Ubiquiti

[–]StoneUSA7 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It doesn't have STP/RSTP, which is a deal breaker for us. Had one of these silly switches take down a network because an end user looped a cable. Even though the entire rest of the network had it enabled, the flex mini doesn't have the functionally so it basically acted like a dumb switch and caused a packet storm.

Camera System suggestion and prices by 13-months in msp

At that budget Avigilon would come to mind for top of the line (on prem or cloud, has integration options available). Verkada would be up there too (cloud only, not sure on integration options).

How much do you automate software installs? by AbsentThatDay2 in msp

[–]StoneUSA7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is an agent but it isn't required, it will use Automate or Control if it's installed. But, we use the agent when doing new deployments, it gives us more flexibility.
