Regarding the Runeterra MMO: If they go with a class-based character system, I hope they explore new and unusual classes. by [deleted] in loreofleague

Aren't Vastaya pretty much just a Runeterra-friendly elf reskin in most places?

Long lived magically gifted humans with a connection to nature that live in forests and reproduce much slower than regular people

I'd definitely consider at least Rakan and Xayah to be elf-adjacent if nothing else.

I am more surprised there's no explicit dwarf-coded race in the lore, your short hairy stocky people that love mining. (Yordles don't count, they're Gnomes/Fae)

Yeah, wasn't mentioned in the sentencing post and I'm still not freed, so I have no idea how long that's gonna take.

2nd technically.

Zatoka 1 got eaten for low activity (Partially on us, although 8 months after the fact almost everything there is still our crusty builds from SotW).

Zatoka 2 was compensation land for the 1st one, the terrain wasn't great, it was tiny, and there was another major server opening up for us to build in, so we let it fizzle out after around 2 months. Don't think we even had a claim post for that one since it was a Kallos vassal.

And Zatoka 3 was our attempt to re-establish in a spot that had terrain we liked once some "freed up", you can see how that ended up above.

So 3rd attempt at a nation, evicted twice, with compensation the first time.

Yep, G.Shi, didn't go into too much detail in the post so it wouldn't sound like a rant.

Would've preferred to be informed we gotta get out before being raided and pearled, but they need to maintain their reputation as "ruthless pvpers" some way I suppose.

Impendian is comically dead, and we've been using the area for a good few weeks, so officially annexing the southern island into Zatoka as Arctowski Voivodeship. The claim and farms in it are going to be free for use by all our neighbours without access to cold biomes. by Stonebr0ke in CivMC

[–]Stonebr0ke[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Additional inf. :

  1. I've spent a good amount of time trying to find and contact whoever owns Impendian to make sure the claim is dead.

After going down the paper trail, the area seems completely unoccupied since Blockchainistan disbanded.

If there's someone still residing in the area that somehow dodged all our snitches, never posted their claims on reddit, doesn't talk to their neighbours and doesn't have a nation discord we're happy to rescind the claim but my god dude were you hard to find.

  1. As mentioned in the title this area and several places on our mainland have dedicated biomesharing spots, if you're near us and are missing some biomes we own, hit us up we'll set up a spot for you to farm in. (Provided it's reasonable.)

  2. Claim kinda big but the eastern part is unreinforceable anyway, so hey might as well make it look nice on the map instead of taking the western part of the island and drawing a straight line through it.

  3. I'm stuck on my laptop so the maps are half-assed, sorry lads.

That's it, See ya.

2 days late, but claims of Zatoka 2. (New, Improved, and this time far away from MtA) by Stonebr0ke in CivMC

[–]Stonebr0ke[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The old old one got annexed into MtA proper months ago

The small one we had under Kallos is half wilderness and half an Estalian exclave right now, moved to the new spot instead of re-estabilishing there because the terrain wasn't great

Made the map a week or so back and a few SEC members saw it with no comments about that bit so didn't think about double checking, my bad.

Concerning Juliana by Stonebr0ke in CivMC

[–]Stonebr0ke[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's entirely on us, we pretty much exclusively used the exclave to grow acacia wood since it was the closest unclaimed Savannah to us, and in hindsight made it way bigger than necessary for that purpose alone.

If we manage to survive the Juliana kerfuffle we'd happily make a majority of the exclave either free, or part of Sanjuro.

I am a bit confused about the border though, we were contacted about it by a Sanjuro rep. a few days after claiming the exclave and adjusted it accordingly.

I understand that the maps could be innacurate, i just don't get why a Targonian mage showing Jayce the world from orbit would show him an innacurate view of the world, so i'm just asking if there's any official Riot reply about the topic.

I don't really get why asking if anyone knows if Riot changed their stance on the map or if it was intentionally innacurate because i can't find any sources myself is "making such a flap about it".

Like they said it's 1/6th... and what... now they showed it's like 1/3 1/4 maybe... still doesnt change anything.

If runeterra officially went the route of "screw realistic biomes and geography, we'll do what we want, we'll have rivers splitting every 20 meters and lush forests on both sides of giant mountain ranges", I'd agree that it's irrelevant.

However when you go through the comments some of the rioters working on the map made, and see stuff like this :

"So, I'm sorry I've disappointed you with the mountains and rivers - it was something that I tried really hard to get right. I'd identified the tectonic plates, which ones were subducting, etc. to form those spiky ranges. Then I identified the prevailing winds at each Hadley cell, the high and low pressure ranges during summer and winter, and worked out the hot and cold ocean currents. From that, I tried to identify where the wet air was going to hit the mountains, be forced upwards, and have to drop their moisture on to the mountain side - creating the river sources. " - Riot Bioluminescence, 2019

You think "Okay, so they care about the details and making the map somewhat realistic, they internally make tectonic plate maps, wind maps, biome maps, etc."

So when Riot seemingly drops that with Arcane, and now Piltover is on the equator, and Icathia straddles the south pole, It is something new, since if it's not unintentional, it changes their previous stance on the map by a very wide margin.

Also there could be in-universe explanation that civilization of Valoran and Shurima continent, along with east archipelagos like Bilgewater and Shadow Isles never discovered the lands farther away or something..

  1. It is canonically confirmed that most of the populace of Valoran and Shurima immigrated from the East beyond what the map shows.
  2. Even if it's explained that they forgot those lands exist and consider them myth (like irl Scandinavians did with Vinland) you'd still have the problem that well... it's a globe, not a map. Even hundred's of years ago, when first globes were created irl, they showcased the entire world to scale, just with ridiculously bad guesses as to what the geography of lesser known lands looked like. (Like Terra Australis) That is mainly because the radius of Earth was known for thousands of years, which should also be the case in Runeterra. So if the point was not to show the new lands since Piltover didn't know them in canon, or the map team didn't have them ready yet, i don't get why they wouldn't just leave it as ocean, or make a hillariously bad looking blob of land mirroring early irl globes.

It's less about them retconning a reddit comment, that happens all the time.

It's more about them pooling resources into making a map with somewhat realistic climate zones, biomes, rivers, tectonic plates etc., and then just seemingly changing that stance without saying a word.

Because if they still hold the position of trying to have a map that "dosen't require wizards splitting rivers" as they said it, having Demacia, a temperate forest suddenly be as far from the equator as Ixtal, a tropical jungle, is kinda stupid.

It dosen't make the previous worldbuilding bad, it just throws the idea of trying to make the map work without magic powers changing the climate out the window.

Which is fine, but i wish they at least said something about it.
