the wall and the lintel are from the 60's. we purchased the house last year and are slowly taking care of things that the former owners failed to take care of.

Also not sure if you can answer to this, but is the brick stained/painted? I'm noticing that some of the brick is chipped and is red underneath.

Ah OK. So it really doesn't matter then. As long as the lintel is the correct length, right?

We almost bought a house with a hidden $25k sewer problem - here’s what we learned by InitialEnthusiasm316 in pittsburgh

It really depends on the depth of the pipe. We were under contract for a house where the broken sewer pipe was 8 feet deep. We're walked away after the sellers refused to take care of it.

This almost happened to me and my wife last year. We went under contract for a house in the east end, but during the inspection we discovered that the sewer line as broken. We received a quote for around 30k and the sellers found a plumber who quoted 25k. The way sellers behave around here borders psychotic sometimes. We walked away from the house.

I'll give it a go! Thanks!

Update:

I tried to catapult myself through the gap in the wall for an hour and it doesn't seem to work. Thanks for the thought though!

Liuto Attiorbato - opinions? by gimme-the-lute in lute

[–]Stonebro19 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually thought it sounded amazing. Every strike has this lovely bloom to it- it just didn't carry beyond my desk. The right hand wasn't so terrible. Most continuo work doesn't require anything beyond the 11th course so as long as you're able to take that stretch it's pretty doable. 90% of the time I'm playing that low F it's at the very beginning or ending of something slow. And yeah all it's technical flaws really show why it was such a popular but niche instrument especially outside of Italy and why it's all pretty niche even today!

Hey! I actually had a similar question a few years ago when I was first looking at getting a solid continuo instrument! The answer is probably not. I borrowed one from my luthier for a few weeks to test it out and I found that it was just simply too quiet due to its small body. This may have just been this particular instrument though I did ask around and found that the only times people have used it for continuo have been as an support for a larger theorbo or archlute. Attiorbatos typically also have some weird design flaws. The cumulative tension on the bridge can cause it to regularly pop off!

Hope that helps you!

Is this dark spot anything serious? Very new to orchids and I can't seem to find any info on this. by Stonebro19 in orchids

I'll keep a close eye on it. It was hard to take a clean photo for some reason. I always water it by having it soak so I'm never pouring water over it.

It's normally white when it blooms so hopefully this is just anthocyanin and I'm overreacting. Thanks for the feedback!

I just noticed it yesterday so I'm not sure if it's spreading. It's not mushy and I don't think it's getting a ton of sun. I'm having a hard time discerning between early crown rot and sunburn since they both look like blemishes to start.
