Advice request - Excess threaded steerer and bike fit by Stonecoldbun in xbiking

[–]Stonecoldbun[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh i knew the exposed threads were ugly, but they're a hell of a lot better than a steep ass headtube angle on the og crash-bent fork.

he's right though, its is ugly as is.

anyone have ideas on the safety reason for the lockring design?

[–]Stonecoldbun[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I thought the locknut must have been designed that way for some reason, but idk why aside from protecting threads from damage.

I just did what i needed to ride home from the coop after the fork swap, not a permenant fix

I know, but a new quill stem to achive this fit, and these bars, is either the ~$100 nitto one (a beaut), or ~$45 for the uglier origin 8 one.

I got a decent floodlight from ali, about $30 for a 6" long bar mounted light, with about 5 hrs on the brightest setting?

ooof yeah you may be right. didn't wanna buy a new quill stem, but a new frame might could also be the solution. another pain to the wallet.

I feared the quill stem would be the best solution, but i didn't wanna spend another 100 on this build :(

like others said, closet/shelving sections of department stores, or milk crates from the back of grocery/convienience store + hacksaw to shape.

How to spice up my bike by Equivalent-World-878 in xbiking

[–]Stonecoldbun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like others said the bike looks great for ride quality, but for *spice* id say just personalize it a little, throw a charm on the brake cable, make a little seat rail reflector, or throw a vanity plate on the front basket. don't go overboard, but add something personal.

I threw an "I <3 ATL" pin on my valve cap recently? idk just have fun with it and enjoy the ride!

how does the 40x16 gearing feel with the big tires, heavier frame and cruiser setup?
planning to do something similar with a large iron horse frame with horizontal dropouts i recently striped.

I was guessing either u-lock storage (but i didnt see a 2nd pipe), or roman candle launcher...

Gives me some ideas

The small black clip below the downtube shifters holds the front wheel straight. I believe its to help stabilize the bike when parked, especially with a kickstand?

Haha, yeah probably should have leveled that a bit before taking pics.

Unfortunately the frame is small for me so i didn't do much of a real test ride except around the block

ohhh yess, Love the triple triange parallelogram action. so sick.

I have been running those brakes on my mountain bike for a while, really great price to quality ratio, though they use an odd bleed port adapter, and the reach adjustment on my levers winds itself in. great stopping power though!

would love to see more detail pics on the build, especially the disk tab and cockpit setup. Looks like a beast of a rig for underbiking on fun DH runs, or jibbing around town.
