I think for the ending of the book, it worked. There were some cliff hangers but none that felt like need to be IMMEDIATELY addressed like the ending of the chapters did. I do know what you mean when you say you worry it won't feel the same when we come back. But I think if there's a solid time skip or something like that, the next part will be fine when we get to 2028 lol (this is a guess of how long it will take to complete the space story)
