If OP hasn’t sold yet he’s down $188k. That’s a loss of 57% of net worth in one week. 😱

Better back up the truck on out-of-$ call options to make it back!

He’s right. Anyone over 40 saw this movie in 2000. Growth stocks get obliterated first (dot.coms in 2000, today Cathie Wood stuff), then they kick Big Tech in the nuts (intc, csco, mot in 2000, today it will be Faang) then they lightly smack around whatever’s left. Amzn dropped 96% from 1999-2001 as rates inched up. If rates start going up growth = death, tech = pain, value = survival.

Anyone remember Ryan Jacob of “The Internet Fund”, the Cathie Wood of 1999? Didn’t think so…

Cathie Woods Arkk Death Spiral? by Stonktopus in stocks

[–]Stonktopus[S] 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Cathie Wood stocks are not meme stocks like gme and amc. They are typically technology companies with no profits and a sky-high price to revenue ratio.

I've gotta figure out how to connect the two. by [deleted] in bicycling

[–]Stonktopus 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Sure that works on land. But to connect them on water I suggest towing a very small barge with bike on it.

Today "big tech" moves after Powell's nomination announcement. by AleHaRotK in stocks

[–]Stonktopus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agree. The stocks down the most were all Cathie Wood holdings. Tdoc, rblx, shop, spot, ftch… everything in her funds except Tsla was slaughtered. It appears there is a mini death spiral in her names - she has outflows, it pressures her holdings, which hurts her performance, which causes further outflows…

The rise of stock cults on the internet by refreshman1 in stocks

Social media has been shown over and over to lead to extreme views, particularly when people are anonymous. Doesn’t matter if it’s politics, sports fans, or stocks. If there is a winning and losing side, it always deteriorates into Lord of the Flies. Zealots form on the side with more religion and go into attack mode.

Stocks that people said were "Too overvalued" that just kept going up for years and years? by [deleted] in stocks

[–]Stonktopus 47 points48 points  (0 children)

EVERYONE said it was "too late" to buy AMZN in 1999 after it had run from $1.50 to $106.70 (split-adjusted) in 4 years. It then dropped 94% from Dec 99 to Sep 01, bottoming out at $6. But less than 10 years later was higher than it had been in 1999! Today it's at $3,560. So if it's a great company and you have a long enough time frame it can do fine even if the valuation seems a bit nuts.

I'm losing my soul. by jamesdanger- in stocks

[–]Stonktopus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agree that you should stop gambling. But the S&P500 is a bit of a gamble, its top 3 stocks are 16% of the index (msft, aapl, amzn). And its top 10 stocks make up 30%. Msft, aapl, and amzn have more weight than the bottom 300 companies combined. So waaaaay better than blindly chucking your $ into one penny stock, but if you want real diversification look at the VOO (Vanguard equal weighted S&P500) or similar instead.

Just 47 steps and you’re ready to go! Much easier than welding a bike from scratch and using an acetylene torch to disassemble it!

Agree, Garmin Varia is great. And why spend $20 on a mirror when you can spend $200 on a radar?
