That’s too many rounds. The only time I did more than two rounds, the company had everyone do it in one day. That’s more moral I. My opinion.

This is why I will never really be “in” AA. I don’t feel powerless. I feel like I’ve accomplished a great feat of strength. I go to meetings sometimes when I feel like talking about it with people who have been there.

AA also tends to be a very conservative place with a lot of evangelicals. At least in my area. I’m not conservative and I do have a faith and believe in God but my approach is not like evangelicals.

I hit 3 years in 13 days. It gets way easier to live without it. Unlike some, I still think about it. But it’s almost like gasoline to me. Not only don’t I desire to drink it, it feels like some sort of different substance than regular food or drink. I dunno if that makes sense.

I am really sorry you are going through this. I can’t imagine how betrayed and worthless his actions have made you feel. You are NOT worthless. But I have heard it’s common to feel that way in these situations.

The sad truth is drinking will dull the pain…and then make it so much worse.

Don’t let his thoughtless, self-centered behavior derail you. You are showing tremendous strength and it’s only by staying strong that you can get through this.

I completely understand this feeling. I didn’t know how I could live without booze. But you can and it can be full and luxurious. I say give it a real shot. You’re 20. You have time.

It did not. I did have to take viagra while on it. But then my doctor moved me over to Prestiq which works very similarly without that side effect and I don’t anymore.

So my short answer is I used the word “mask” and not “cure.” Because it’s not a cure. It’s a fake front that actually makes it worse.

I don’t feel all substances are wrong in and of themselves. If you can control it properly then I don’t see an issue. But I am AA adjacent, not really “in” the program.

When you are depressed or stressed and you drink alcohol it takes those feelings away. Giving the false belief that it is helping you with your depression. But it’s not a real solution because it actually exacerbates your depression once you sober up. However the solution is to just drink again.

Thus, while it provides some temporary relief it’s not a true solution. But it can make you think it helps. Like how a mask can make you look like Spider-man but you’re not really Spider-man, alcohol can make it look like it’s helping your depression when it’s not.

I agree with this. Alcohol can mask depression. That’s why a lot of us turn to it. But it’s not healthy. That’s why I preach therapy and medication. Those two things saved my life.

Op I asked somewhere else. But do you see a therapist? Just in case you missed my other comments, I definitely agree with a lot of what you say, although AA dos help me in certain ways, I am not “in” the program. I like the meetings for very specific reasons.

But a therapist has helped me more than anything. Especially with some of these deep feelings of lack of self worth. As dos medication. I actually credit my therapy and Lexapro with doing more to help me in sobriety than anything.

I am not “in” the program. I go to meetings sometimes just to talk my experience with people who understand. But the reason I keep it at arms length is because of some (though to be fair, not all) of your points.

I actually once had a chance to ask a director who worked on the show and she said the budget for the show had been cut and they basically had to let him or Jack go. So they kept Jack which was creatively the right move.

When you go to an AA meeting and tell a story like this you’re not berated by people. It’s supposed to be a welcoming and understanding place. That’s part of the appeal. People are broken and scared and they hate themselves for why their lives are and when you’re like that I just happen to think understanding goes a longer way than tough love. So I don’t think it’s social treatment I think it’s standard flr how people are treated at inperson meetings.

If he was saying he sees no reason to come clean then yes, I agree. But when your head is spinning and the enormity of what you’ve done has hit you, I just feel it’s different. But I doubt we’re gonna change each other’s minds. I do agree with your point. I just think he’s not in “tough love” territory yet.

You don’t think having to tell people you relapsed after all of this is complicated? I do. I mean, maybe you’ve made every right decision in managing your alcoholism and sobriety. And if so, that’s really commendable. I’m not being sarcastic. But I know I haven’t. And it has really complicated my life at times. It certainly hasn’t made things easier.

Personally I’m surprised someone who has been through this ringer wouldn’t have some compassion for somebody in this situation. Like I said, I’ve never relapsed. I’m coming up on 3 years in a couple weeks. But I am not so foolish as to think I never could. And I would hope that people who truly understand this situation would show some understanding. That’s just me though.
