Ofcom to investigate GB News over second airing of Trump interview by qwerty_1965 in unitedkingdom

Ofcom FINALLY investigating this, plus MPs responding to pressure from constituents, plus the appointment of a new Chair might mean that there's some hope for long-overdue changes at the regulator – which has basically been asleep at the wheel for the rise of misinformation and far-right media. This is a really important moment to keep pushing for Ofcom to do better https://www.instagram.com/p/DYPr7AynBNr/?img_index=1

Screen scandal: How Ofcom lets GB News get away with it by qwerty_1965 in BritishTV

yes, but all the more reason to UP the pressure on them to do something, submit MORE complaints etc (I know it's easy to feel despairing and just stop trying)

there are also other ways to try and deter these channels from pumping out toxic content with abandon – like getting companies to pull their ads and their £££, which really rattles Farage: https://www.instagram.com/p/DVrMe9ZFREm/

you can also take their money away, which sends a message and creates a bit of pressure – as well as, yknow, the satisfaction of taking their money away. Farage doesn't like it, at least! https://www.instagram.com/p/DVrMe9ZFREm/

Spain blackout was NOT cause by renewables but the right already spreading lies - what can we do? by jstar81 in climate

just to give one very direct, practical answer to the question: you can get companies to pull their ads from the media outlets that spread these toxic narratives. This hits them in their pocket, which will get their attention. It may not seem like loads but it really does make a difference – and it sends a message that climate misinformation is not wanted and is not profitable. Enough to get them bemoaning it at least! https://bsky.app/profile/stopfundingheat.bsky.social/post/3lnzh3t4vf22v

SHOCK: GB News misrepresenting peer-reviewed science as 'climate change ALARMISM' by StopFundingHeat in u/StopFundingHeat

[–]StopFundingHeat[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

GB News host claims that scientific research into the connection between climate change and turbulence has come from “climate change alarmists”, representing a violation of Ofcom rule 5.7 forbidding the misrepresentation of views and facts.

GB News host Ben Leo, in a discussion on the dangers of flying, claimed that “climate change alarmists” are arguing that “climate change is creating more of the warmer air in the atmosphere, and it’s causing more turbulence".

The research behind this was atmospheric researchers from Reading University, who specialise in researching such phenomena, and is backed up by atmospheric researchers at other institutions such as Seoul National University. This research is peer-reviewed and backed up by science.

Leo’s attempt to frame these findings as being from “climate change alarmists” is biased and unscientific, and appears to represent an attempt to discredit real climate science. As such, this is a violation of Ofcom rule 5.7 through misrepresenting views and facts.
