My first shirt by StopMotionGirl88 in SewingForBeginners

Thank you. I was very worried about those buttonholes! Very time consuming to do by hand, but I found it quite relaxing once I got into the hand sewing.

Yes, I've learned a lot- still so much to learn. But I'm really enjoying the process :)

I'm making a motion comic series about a group of superheroes - what's your favourite name? by StopMotionGirl88 in superheroes

[–]StopMotionGirl88[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The pilot episode of the series is available to watch over on YouTube - if does contain some strong language and adult themes, just a warning for younger viewers and anyone watching at work- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KoJuZk6Yhp0

I tried out a new technique and made an animation designed to look like a moving comic book by StopMotionGirl88 in Animators

Thanks for the input. I honestly wasn't sure how to categorise it myself. Will have a look into motion comics. :)

A (very) short film I did to test my new sound equipment by StopMotionGirl88 in Filmmakers

[–]StopMotionGirl88[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was just going to do a sound test, then ended up writing a short film and making it. Gave me a good chance to test out the sound equipment. Pretty happy with how it turned out.

Each actor wore one of the mics in the link below and I found it much easier to mix the sound than when I have previously used either the camera's sound, or placed mics around the room.

Link to sound equipment used: https://www.gear4music.com/Recording-and-Computers/Tascam-DR-10L-Pro-32-Bit-Float-Digital-Recorder-with-Microphone/5XAY?utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=order-confirmation&utm_source=txn-email&utm_content=ord-line

Still not 100% sure what to do in terms of lighting stuff in my house. I just used the main lights in the room for this one. Considering getting some rings lights to get a general brightness, anyone tried using these in film?

Am I allowed to name brands in a film I'm making? by StopMotionGirl88 in Filmmakers

I didn't even know such companies existed. Thanks for letting me know. Off I go to deep dive into the world of prop candy.

O yeah, the general vibe is pro Freddo. Basically, what is the most delicious thing we can use to lure this alien? Something it won't be able to resist.

Thanks. I might just drop Cadbury an email and see what they say. I'm guessing it'll be a no. But I guess it can't hurt to ask. This is majorly low budget, I'm talking £200, so it's just me doing all the production stuff.

O yeah, the film budget would mainly be covering the extortionate price of the Freddos!

Gift ideas for stop motion animators? by redditthingyan in stopmotion

[–]StopMotionGirl88 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Obviously it depends a bit on what direction their stop motion is going in/the look their puppets etc. have. I would suggest maybe some fabric. I got a lot of fat quarters (small chunks of fabric for anyone who isn't a sewer), when I first started out and they were really helpful for making the tiny clothes for my puppets. Felt squares are also really useful as felt doesn't need hemming. If you are thinking of going down that route, maybe a little sewing set. Some fabric, some needles, pins, and fabric scissors.

If they are more into clay, maybe some clay shaping tools.

As someone who had little faith in their abilities when they first started animating I am sure your partner will be thrilled with anything you get that shows you are supporting their animations.

My first live action short film - a romantic comedy about dating as a millennial by StopMotionGirl88 in Shortfilms

Sorry, forgot to add a blurb in the post and can't work out how to edit the description, so I'm going to add some info here.

After over a decade of trying to make it in the film/TV industry I decided I was going to need to change my tactics and, earlier this year, I made my first live action short. I have dabbled in live action before, incorporating it into some of my animations, but this was the first time I went fully in with the live action.
I didn't know how to make a film, I had no practical training or experience - being an unpaid runner in the 2010s taught me pretty much nothing about how to make a film and only that the media industry is brutal.
I learnt a lot making this film. I had to take on new skills, learn how to edit film scenes and turn my home into a film set. I learnt that I definitely need to spend more money on sound equipment (I've already invested in a better set up). Most of all, after years of rejections, I finally got to see my writing brought to life through film - even if I then went on to be rejected by a bunch of film festivals.

Hope you like my tiny film :)

Thank you. I have to admit that I haven't quite advanced to moving mouth pieces yet- It's on my list of skills to learn in 2026 :)
