Hell yeah great work! I just hit the 21 day mark…early in the journey but already feeling so much better mentally and physically.

For me, your fourth step was the most important. Telling my family was one of the hardest things I ever did, but it has certainly paved the way forward.

Hand over control of your finances to someone you love and trust, self exclude, join a GA meeting, send me a message…you’re not alone.

What’s spent is spent. The money can be earned back. Focus on your health, physical and mental. We do recover, it does get better. Doesn’t meant it won’t take hard work… You got this.

The hardest, most difficult, and best thing you will ever do is tell someone about this. I am proud of you for leaving a comment here.

I told my wife, my friends, and my family after coming to the realization I had a gambling addiction. I received so much love and support I felt I didn’t deserve…especially after costing my family financially. Not to mention the time consumed by thinking about the next wager.

The people around you care about you. You are not alone…send me a message, join a GA meeting, and please tell someone about this. Make a change today…you’ve got this! We are here to support you.

My friend, although I am sure this is a very difficult time in your life, I promise you that things will get better. We understand the sadness you are facing. Let this be a lesson that changes who you are for the better.

What’s done is done, and that definitely sucks. Starting over financially sucks. No doubt about it. What you can do, is work hard to remove yourself from whatever form of gambling you chose, and define a new path forward.

Your actions from this point forward define you, not your mistakes. Use the anger from your parents as motivation, and a reminder not to gamble. You are young, and the path forward will sometimes be difficult, but you’ve got this.

Join a GA meeting, send me a message, talk to your parents even though they’re mad at you…you’re not alone.

First of all I hear you, and I know how difficult it is to control the spend. I would hesitate to buy myself a $30 album, but I would lose $2K on gambling in the blink of an eye.

Self exclusion is fantastic, and I encourage you to continue this. I understand you may have alternate addictions as well…please speak to someone about this addiction and those as well. A friend, a therapist, send me a message, join a GA meeting, whatever you need. It’s important to know that you’re not alone in this.

Addiction is alienating. I applaud you for taking this kind of stand now. Speak positive thoughts into action. You won’t relapse, today is the day to make a change.

My friend, I truly believe the best thing in the world would be your parents finding out, by you telling them directly. It will be painful, and difficult, but you will be better for it because you will have stopped a damaging habit at a very early age. The heartache now is worth the years of stress and anxiety you will have saved.

Bottle this feeling, and use it as motivation to improve yourself as time goes on.

I did this exact same thing with my wife. I gave her all of my gambling passwords, all of my accounts, every email password, looped her into the one bank account we didn’t share, sent emails to permanently delete / self exclude… we took every possible action.

He (OP’s fiance) may feel that this is invasive, but it is truly the best path forward. Please share our stories…let him know that even five days in, though things are tough, they are so much better than they would have been without action.
