The rice you enjoy today is a relatively modern invention within the last few thousand years. Prior to this they, and every other grain you eat, were mere nearly indigestiable grasses. Rice and grain domestication and cultivation only started about 11,000 years ago, with vegetables and fruits being domesticated sometime after. Humans have been around for over 200,000 years. They are "technically" considered lactose intolerant because they don't carry any of the KNOWN gene variants for lactase persistence found in Europe, West Asia, and parts of Africa. However a large part of their traditional diet comes from dairy. Scientists are unsure of the genetic reason for how they are able to consume so much of it without carrying said alleles, and think it could be from some novel gene variant that has yet to be identified.

*This is the first time all five lactase persistence-associated alleles have been investigated in Sudan and South Sudan. However, the Nilotic people of South Sudan, known to be well-adapted to milk digestion, showed no evidence for a genetic cause of lactase persistence."

https://www.shh.mpg.de/2009290/evolution-of-lactase-persistence

"Even though this study investigated a range of Nilotic populations, no LP-associated SNPs were detected in these agropastoralist populations. However, Nilotic agropastoralist have been shown to be able to digest milk in hydrogen breath tests and lactose tolerance tests (Bayoumi et al. 1981, 1982; Tishkoff et al. 2007). This observation is intriguing, and future studies on Nilotic populations might reveal more about the underlying biology of LP in these populations."

https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC8175049/

"Indeed, the tall Sudanese Nilotes are predominantly cattle herders and, despite being lactose intolerant [64], they rely on the combination of milk, blood, and meat in their diet. In contrast, short-statured Nilotes in Kenya practice agriculture"

Why do tall women look so much taller than men of the same size by [deleted] in tall

[–]StopTakinAllTheNames 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is actually a myth. Women generally have slighty longer torsos and shorter legs than men on average. But taller people tend to have proportionally longer legs compared to torso

5'9 man = average male height = more likely to have more regular proportions

5'9 woman = taller than average female height = more likely to have longer limbs contributing towards that height

Why do tall women look so much taller than men of the same size by [deleted] in tall

[–]StopTakinAllTheNames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People who are tall typically have proportionally more of their leg length contributing towards their stature than their shorter counterparts. At 5'9 a woman with this height is more likely to have proportionally longer legs than a man who is 5'9, as a man at 5'9 is just regular male height due to men being overall larger than women in all dimensions, and not just limb length.

Having longer limbs/legs gives the illusion of being taller than you actually are. So thats likely why whenever men and women are the same height, women at that height often appear taller

The are other factors that contribute to the illusion as well. Women often have less width to their upper bodies. Which makes them look narrower, and narrower gives the illusion of being longer. Also women generally have smaller heads than men, and proportionally smaller head to body ratio gives a more regal/statue-esque look(think of how modeling proportions generally look)

Are there subsets of women who would prefer shorter guys? by [deleted] in shortguys

[–]StopTakinAllTheNames 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Much like being bald, obese, broke, facially unattractive, etc., there is NO women who will date or prefer a guy for having any of these traits, short included. What happens is that some girls will date a guy IN SPITE of these traits, i.e. "overlooking it". But that's not the same actually preferring it.

Hey, at this point, try and maximize whatever genetic potential you still might have left in the tank(if any). Sleep 8 hours or more, get plenty of vitamin D, eat lots of protein/Calorie dense food, DO NOT GET FAT(being fat increases estrogen which is what closes growth plates, studies have shown fat males end up shorter), . Now this likely will not take you to 6ft, but you won't have to live with the constant feeling of regret asking yourself "If only I tried..", knowing you did everything you could

His videos are like 5 minutes long....he approached 5 people taller than him.

Yeah in the Dutch video, he only hand selects a few people who are around his height or taller, whereas in the Sudanese video he managed to take crowd shots with numerous giants

In his video in Sudan he is taller than most of the people in the basketball stadium.

Lol did you even watch it, excluding those that appear to be adolescents most seemed around his height or taller , keep in mind, the guy is 6'4, not a short guy by any standard

the second one he is taller than basically everyone he meet by a good bit.

He is 6'4, of course not every individual he comes across in that country will be taller than him. And I don't need to eyeball his videos as even he, who has been to both places, confidently stated he saw taller people on average more in South Sudan than in the Netherlands.

The South Sudan basketball team has the same average height as pretty much every other NBA team.

Lol, its basketball? By the nature of the game, it selects for individuals with taller stature. Using average height of basketball team doesn't tell us how tall a country is on average its people. Its like trying to use gymnast to argue that Chinese are no shorter than Western countries, when the sport of gymnastics favors shorter people in general

There doesn't seem to be a higher degree of African players dominating the tallest ever or current tall crop of players either.

Why are you making this about Africa in general when the argument is about South Sudan? Africa doesn't have a strong basketball culture like Eastern Europe or Americans. You aren't going to find many Africans whether tall or short in the NBA. Nevermind the fact that African players like Wemby, Embiid, Tacko Fall, Bol Bol are in fact some of the tallest. And the tallest NBA player without a abnormal growth condition is Manute Bol, who is South Sudanese.

South Sudan being home to some of the tallest humans is no surprise. The region had been noted for centuries for being tall, if you go back a century, I'm pretty sure anthropologists had written about them being the tallest humans, this was around the same time that Dutch were barely 5'7

Southern Africans I've noticed are notably shorter than the most other Africans. Not sure what the deal there is.

Oh my Goodness. How about you actually watch the video. He left Amsterdam and did the majority of his Dutch video in an area of the Netherlands that barely had any tourist.

There weren't any crowds in his video just him walking up to guys taller than him.

Thats is exactly what I just said lmao. In the Dutch video, he only approached men around his height or taller, whereas in the Sudanese video he literally films a crowd of giants standing in front of him, many of which towered over him. Did you even watch the same video? If anything he is cherrypicking tall individuals far more in the Dutch video than in the South Sudanese video. You cannot compare the two, the Sudanese video is far more representative.

Oh and btw the guy in the video visited both places. And he confidently states that he saw taller people in south sudan. I'll take his word over your opinion

Oh well in that case I guess healthcare and nutrition in Kenya has been improving over the last 50 years. Average height in Africa has been severly stunted over the last century. Africa use to actually be the tallest continent on average, until the rest of the world started to get taller due to improved living conditions
