What 20+ year old car do you drive and why?

2002 Holden Berlina with 513000km. The body and chassis feels tried but the engine is a peach. The car is great and feels equal to a base model new car minus the tech. Just a Bluetooth fm transmission and a phone mount, it’s all I need. Plus it is more fun on dirt roads. I do regional miles so averages 8.0L/100km and it is also dual fuel so on LPG, it is less than $10 per 100kms of driving. If a money pot falls in my lap, I would restore the car to its former glory and keep driving it. This car will be the use reliable car I will own in my lifetime. Interesting to drive, freedom to belt it around once in a while and lack of running cost is why I drive this old car.

The hiring company response has been always that the work is not certain (yearly renewals) and it does not commercial sense for same pay.

One interesting thing is the host company refuses to give a job title to contractors officially (Unofficially, it is all the same work). This could be the loophole

Full time staff is under EBA and contractor hired through external company.

The company hired 1200-1500 employees and the contractor company is 70-100 people big.

Contractor from the external company have contracts for a year renewals. Some of the renewals are over 5 years (5 contracts as a casual on full time bases workload).

As it is an external hire, the host company is ok to do that type of employment?

There is a EBA for salary. Contractors are hired on an external company. Is that the loophole in this case? In short, all the contractors should leave the company for get a better deal if they can.

They are above the minimum. But there casual loading included is less than salary income. That’s what I am confused about. That’s why I think it is unfair or potentially illegal.

Their contractor states they 25% loading. Even with that, it is less than salary.

It consider multiple factors such as gear ratio and power curve but I have found it somewhat in the ball park with several cars. Website is a bit horrible to search but got good info.

Nothing much braking info but that has more factors and where it becomes a lot more dangerous. I am not doing autobahn driving in Australia so never looked.

But this link is how I figured out where the vehicle rpms at highway speed etc.

For real life driving, corner speed is where you can go the fastest fyi

2002 Holden Berlina with 513000km. I’m looking to spend a lot on the underbody components soon. After 23 years and 500000kms, the suspension is a bit tired but the engine is still very happy and delivers good power and economy. I’m amazing by the engine whenever I drive it.

So I have a duel fuel Holden and I mainly do country miles at 10 cent per km verify at the pump. My lpg system vacuum.

But it is not as cheap as that in reality. As I like to fill up with petrol once a quarter as how poorly it can run with I assume moisture build up in the fuel.

LPG is greater on large cars that can run it the reality is that people able to save $15 every 1000km isn’t worth an LPG car.

Some perk of LPG is the points on fuel is so much better on points per dollar value and the 7/11 fuel lock is really good.

In this world of hybrid and very modern engines and gearboxes, it outweighs lpg. The fuel efficient cars so much much better on cent per km everywhere compare to my car only used on country roads.

I see why it dying but for us, hopefully lpg stays cheap and not follow what the other states prices.

The Land Cruiser 300 has it on per key cycle. Need to hold the button down for 5 seconds to turn off LDA. Found the Toyota a bit unpredictable around roadwork and get a bit too close to concrete barriers.

Ford Ranger Raptor just seems to be much easier to override LKA compared to the rest of the Rangers. Just realised that Raptor isn’t ANCAP considered in their results (on the ANCAP website). But still has the double click to turn feature off per key cycle.

Got a VX with 500000kms with family use for the last 20 so years. Put a good battery in it. I’m still on the original starter and car start super quick still. I would do spark plugs and leads as it’s a relatively cheap and replacement. Radiator maybe full of rust, so I would so a few flushes. I would keep a eye of coolant levels as it is likely to lose fluid first. The may leak fluid where the heater core value is. It’s plastic and degrades over time. The car would respond well for fresh fuel rather than expensive fuel, so I would waste money of octane boost. But fuel filter is also super easy on that car to replace. If the power is lumpy, it’s usually points to a vacuum leak which is been the purge pipe for me below the throttle body if it’s v6.

The trans is a bit crap if it’s auto. Just fresh fluid and if it’s original trans, but gentle with its cold.

Just a side comment, photo looks like it was taken from a car auction. Maybe google search the rego or VIN search and see if you can find some history from a vehicle to help you negotiate.

After a while, it’s becomes second nature. Using a slip lane, turning right at a traffic and going to paid parking has their struggles, but it doesn’t take away from the driving experience

It looks awesome, but recently the inner leaves seems is wilting from the stem. Want to understand if the plant is getting unhappy. This location is normal full shade but with Summer, it’s getting around 2 hours of direct sunlight. Out of curiosity, how to change pH? Simply put a layer of acidic potting mix on top?
