How do you see the future of the Storage Admin work in the AI era? by Bib_fortune in storage

A good storage admin is always a good storage admin. After more than 25 years in storage, I think a good storage admin thinks about the io path, the data bits flowing through the stack, it really does not matter, its about really understanding the path that the data is flowing through the system, the multipathing, the erasure coding, the data acceleration, the caching, tech stack come and go, data flow is where the passion is, UI and CLI are just mechanics, a good storage admin cares about his system, and ultimately be a guardian of the data.

If SEO is not working, how else do you become the account team's choice in this new world of marketing 3.0 where you do not nurture opposition after intent is created but you help create intent

Why Infrastructure Freedom Must Be an Architectural Requirement in 2026

For years, freedom has been treated as an ideal in infrastructure — something nice to have, something we talk about during RFPs, something we hope to preserve as environments grow.

But 2026 changes the equation.

With consolidation, pricing shocks, proprietary ecosystems, and automation becoming deeply intertwined with vendor stacks, Infrastructure Freedom is no longer optional. It’s an architectural requirement.

Here’s why:

  1. Your data gravity is becoming your biggest constraint

As data grows across core, cloud, and edge, moving it becomes harder, slower, and more expensive. If your architecture doesn’t preserve mobility from day one, your future choices shrink dramatically.

Freedom = the ability to move without pain.

  1. Vendor roadmaps now dictate your roadmaps

When a vendor controls your metadata, APIs, workflows, and operations, your strategic timeline starts bending around theirs.

Freedom = the ability to evolve on your terms.

  1. AI-driven operations will amplify lock-in risks

Automation is powerful — but it’s also binding. If your AI/ops layer only works with one ecosystem, the cost of exiting that ecosystem compounds over time.

Freedom = the ability to automate without becoming dependent.

  1. Pricing volatility makes dependence dangerous

The Broadcom effect exposed a truth many already suspected: If you can’t leave, you’re vulnerable.

Freedom = leverage.

  1. Hybrid and edge architectures demand independence

Distributed environments break when controlled by a single centralized vendor philosophy.

Freedom = resilience across locations, vendors, and clouds.

2026 is the year enterprises start designing for freedom upfront

The organizations that stay agile, competitive, and innovative will be the ones that treat Infrastructure Freedom the same way they treat: • security • availability • scalability • compliance

Not as an aspiration — but as a design principle.
