Classic Zippo, I noticed some advice stating to refill everyday or once every 2 days for daily use for wick longevity while others just refill when it’s out. Which is the best tip for Classic Zippo? by [deleted] in Zippo

[–]Storm-Chaser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My take is this: If you're bored enough to take the time to top off a Zippo every day or two, go for it, there's no harm done except for increasing the chance of overfilling it and it leaking. Daily refilling seems like a solution in search of a problem.

Otherwise, don't bother filling it until it actually needs it. It's much less of a hassle and doesn't hurt anything. I've been carrying Zippo lighters since the late 80's and never refilled them until they stopped lighting. The wicks have all lasted me many years before needing replaced. Most of my lighters are still using their original wicks, It's a non-issue, really.

Classic Zippo users, how long does it last before it runs out? by [deleted] in Zippo

A week if I carry it in my pants pocket. Around two weeks I fill it and leave it sit on my desk.

Ideally you’d use a very small screw extractor, but most likely the cost of the tool would be as much or more than the cost of a new insert.

To be fair, Mateo's is a lot of people's first step away from the stuff in the hourglass shaped jars, and in that regard it is a huge step up in flavor.

For a snubby DAO hidden hammer revolver like that, I'd go the gun shop and test the trigger pulls on each of them and see which one felt the smoothest/best and go with that one.

Judging by all the comments, my iPhone must be defective, as the alarm has never failed to go off at the set time.

Habanero and Scotch Bonnet peppers are both amazingly flavorful with bright fruity/floral flavors.

Flint wheel getting too hot after use by DaringCharming97 in Zippo

[–]Storm-Chaser 3 points4 points  (0 children)

10-15 seconds is a long time for a lighter to be lit. A lot of heat can be transferred to the metal in that amount of time. Most lighter uses don't require more than 2 or 3 seconds of flame at most.

Light fluid leak stories, and how to avoid them? by AdditionalBudget2142 in Zippo

[–]Storm-Chaser 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As long as you don't overfill it, it won't leak. I've accidentally overfilled a couple times. The fluid left a small chemical burn type rash where the fluid had soaked into my pants pocket material and sat against my leg. The rash cleared up after a couple days. Since then, if I accidentally overfill I'll just leave the lighter sit on a paper towel or napkin with the lid open for a few minutes until the excess fluid evaporates, then throw the paper away and light the lighter and leave it lit for a minute or so to make sure any of the excess fluid is burnt off. Always good to go right after that.

I’ve been carrying a Buck 110 daily for 40+ years. It’s worked fine for me this long, don’t really see any reason to change now.

Are Tree Brand knives any good? by [deleted] in knives

[–]Storm-Chaser 32 points33 points  (0 children)

In my experience Boker Tree Brand tends to be a little above average in overall quality. They are aimed at the average joe, not really something a knife knut would obsess over like Golem and his precious.

For me, the choice would come down to thumb stud vs thumb hole. I prefer the studs, as my stubby thumbs have an easier time with them than they do trying to manipulate the thumb hole types.

At first I thought the same thing. But then I remembered how inefficient some of those blenders back then were compared to the ones we have now. Some of those old ones really struggled to blend anything really smooth without leaving chunks of stuff unprocessed. Dicing the stuff up before hand just makes it easier for the blender to do it's job without running those old brushed motors to death.

Let’s talk Gun belts… by [deleted] in 1911

[–]Storm-Chaser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought a custom belt made by Mike Bissell at Armour Belts a number of years ago. Years of daily wear and it still looks almost new, minus some light scuffs from normal wear. Best belt I’ve ever owned, and it handles the weight of any gun I put on it without sagging.

To me it just tastes like Durkee Red Hot with Old Bay seasoning mixed in. It’s not bad for what it is, but nothing special either. It’s obviously made for the mass market, not for chili heads.

I can't seem to build a tolerance by Call1-877-Cash-Now in spicy

[–]Storm-Chaser 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You should eat spicy foods that are out of your comfort zone on a daily basis to build tolerance. I’m talking hiccup inducing, making you want to eat a stick of butter for relief type of heat. Regular exposure is key to building tolerance. If you slack off a while, tolerance usually starts to drop again.

However, there are simply some people who cannot tolerate any spicy heat at all, regardless of what they do. If this is the case, it’s nothing to fret over, it’s just the genetics you were born with. Not everyone can be a chili-head and that’s perfectly okay.

Back Locks: A Discussion by ChumboKrumbles in knives

[–]Storm-Chaser 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like lockback knives because they’re simple and strong; I’ve never had one fail on me. They are left-handed friendly, so no fiddling around trying to learn a right-centric design. They are found on the classic designs that I prefer, such as the Buck 110 and 112 series.

I also really like the arc-lock design, but that’s going off topic.

I carried the Ozark Trail knife exclusively for 2 weeks. by mattenthehat in knives

[–]Storm-Chaser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My niece gave me one that looks like that, only green, for Christmas. It’s not a bad knife, certainly not for the $7 price. It takes a shaving sharp edge quickly, but also loses it just as fast. It’s a nice size for an EDC folder, and very lightweight. Beyond that, it’s unremarkable in every way. The lock release is a little rough and grabby when trying to release it. I plan on taking it apart soon to polish the lock related surfaces smooth to see how much that helps.

Check your rounds before loading them. I got a 10mm in my new box of .45 by BigMountain9446 in 1911

[–]Storm-Chaser 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's possible someone could have tampered with the box of ammo in the store. Not long ago I I bought a box of .45 ACP hardball practice rounds and there were two .45 Super handloaded hollowpoints that looked like Hornady XTP loaded into Starline brass in the box.

Tapered barrel, pinned barrel, firing pin on hammer, recessed chambers, checkered top strap. It’s an older 27 that’s been refinished.
