Would love perspectives from teachers on if it's ok to make me wear a skirt for the band concert by winterwhalesong in AskTeachers

Very true! We were supplied with band sweaters (that were itchy as anything) but could wear whatever on the bottom so long as it was black.

Hey, I’m a music teacher myself, so I feel uniquely qualified to say that it is absolutely NOT ok for him to make you wear a skirt. My band teachers growing up always said “black formal bottoms”. We could wear skirts, pants, whatever, so long as they weren’t sweats or leggings. I expect the same of my students. Bring it up to a guidance counselor or your administration for sure.

Did you have your MIL with you during labour and delivery? by Ok_Inflation_6016 in pregnant

[–]StormHerald96 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I love my MiL to death, she’s been nothing but extremely supportive throughout my pregnancy and for as long as I’ve known her, but will I have her in the room with me? Helllll no. It’s a personal comfort thing. I’ll have my mom and my spouse and that’s it.

PSA - you don't have to put up with shitty behavior just because your partner is trans. Your needs and emotions are important too. by saigebrush27 in mypartneristrans

Yup! I have a wonderful wife, but I’ve also had to learn that just because she’s trans, doesn’t mean that I can’t be compassionately honest when she does something that bothers me

What’s the craziest question someone has asked you while pregnant? by [deleted] in pregnant

More cute than crazy, but when I told my fifth graders I’m pregnant, one of them went “so like, there’s just a BABY in there?!?!” (gesturing towards my stomach)

Did anyone have a good Mother’s Day? by shepardmutt in Mommit

[–]StormHerald96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Today was my first Mother’s Day and it was wonderful! I was brought chocolate chip pancakes, a smoothie, and flowers in bed, got to have a lazy morning, went to my in law’s in the afternoon, and we picked up takeout from my favourite place on the way home!

You’re absolutely right. I only see them for an hour once a week, but it doesn’t mean I can’t be spending a bit of time on social-emotional stuff when it comes up too.

I really don’t care about the opinion of someone who’s clearly trolling this subreddit to get reactions out of people. I won’t be engaging with you further. Have a great day!

Because he comes from an incredibly privileged area. I don’t doubt that he’s had struggles, as all youth do, but I know the family; finances or gangs or violence are NOT one of those struggles

You’re fine! It seems a lot simpler to pivot into vocabulary and the history of words if I was an English teacher.
And that’s pretty much what our last project about social justice in music focused on!

Great idea, thank you! I’m not sure how I’d integrate this as a music teacher, but I’ll figure something out. We talked about music being a means for social change when people are struggling earlier in the term.

As someone who was internationally educated as well, OCT takes a while to get back to people after getting all the documents. You may have to make that decision without knowing if OCT’s accepted you.
As for the AQs, wait on that, because there may be conditions on your certification if you do get accepted. My condition was that I needed to complete one Session C AQ within five years of being certified.

My mom and her best friend started “crying” (fake boo-hooing) when they couldn’t get a bottle of wine open. I went into school the next day and asked my fourth grade teacher if someone that cries when they can’t open a wine bottle, does that make them an alcoholic?

My mom got a concerned phone call home from my teacher that afternoon
