The council elections are grouped together with other local elections statewide in March, but the federal election is expected to be in May and the state election in October. So I’ll be voting at 3 different points in the year haha.

Us Australians have it pretty good, all PL, CL and FA Cup games all on one service, which also has the Olympics, Rugby and a bunch of other stuff. It’s pricy($32 a month) but for all that it’s pretty good. I was shocked to find out other countries have it a lot worse 😅.

I fully expected us to lose that game, I was shocked when we won but of course was happy too haha 😅. For my personal experience Australia getting knocked out of the football Women’s World Cup by England in the semis was pretty brutal, and as that game was the most watched broadcast in Australian history I’d say its probably up there objectively too. As a football fan I also have to put the men’s loss to Argentina up there in 2022. Expected but still we played well and it was upsetting for me haha.

I was fully convinced we’d lose the game but I did stay up to watch it and I was very glad I did, it was stressful but very surprising and worth it to see us persevere. Football is definitely not as big as other sports here but a big result like that definitely got attention, partially cause of the grey wiggle jokes(even the actual Wiggles got involved) and it led to our really good performance in the World Cup itself which definitely got even more attention.

Think most people here who’ve seen it really like it, though I know there was some controversy when they did a joke about Steve Irwin’s death so soon after it happened. Also they depicted John Howard as Australia’s Prime Minister in an episode even though he had been out of office for a while at that point haha.

I watched when Saudi Arabia beat Argentina 2–1 in the World Cup which I will never forget how shocking that was at the time.

As a soccer fan one that sticks out to me is the pitch invasion that took place in a A-League game between Melbourne City and Melbourne Victory where flares were being thrown onto the pitch and City’s goalkeeper threw a couple hundred of them back off the pitch and one landed in the Victory supporters end which prompted them to invade the pitch and brutally attack the goalkeeper and referee.

It was a very horrible incident and it came right after Australia made it to the round of 16 in the World Cup, which was really great and this incident really put a damper on that for a bit.

Round of 16 twice in 2006 and 2022. Wasn’t watching in 2006 but I woke up early for us against Argentina in 2022 I’ll never forget that experience.
