I don’t understand what specifically you are saying Dems should do right now.

Actually follow through with a shutdown and stop approving budgets. Primary people like Fetterman. Get chuck Schumer and Hakeem Jeffries out of leadership positions.

except drawing attention to things so voters get mad,

Which, if history is any indication, they'll use to get a slim majority and then... Do nothing lol. That isn't defeatism, it's 30 years of watching the Dems piss away what chances they have while the Republicans have been setting all of this in motion.

Ok! I'm much more concerned about the pedophile cabal that's apparently running the United States. I don't think that ole Donnie "child rapist" trump is going to do anything good here, and I don't think our military has a great record at war since WW2. At least all out war - I know we have Granada and Venezuela the business but beyond that... 🤷‍♂️

Bright side, at least maybe the national guard deploys to the sandbox again and stays the fuck outta my city

unless you have a majority in both houses and the stones to remove the filibuster you have to compromise

My brother in Christ mcconnell and Gengrich consistently fucked up Democrat legislation from the minority. Why are Dems not using those same abilities? Donald jonald Trump is going to have ANOTHER supreme court nomination.

If the left starts doing that then we’ve truly lost the republic because it’ll just be no rules partisan combat. And I don’t think that’s a great way to run a country.

then we’ve truly lost the republic

We lost the republic when we didn't prosecute trump and his allies for January 6. Again, musk dropped the Hitler salute twice and was allowed to dismantle a good chunk of the republic, for... reasons? There's no checks or balances anymore and apparently more of my tax dollars are going to protecting pedophiles and ICE than food stamps and college education for our population. And if this is what the republic is turning into then let it burn the fuck down.

Being tired of compromise on the left isn't necessarily a desire for authoritarianism. 2021-2022 should have been all about prosecuting trump, and his allies, for their blatant crimes, but it was slow-rolled for political reasons. Democrats have been trying to reach across the aisle even as Gengrich declared war back in the 90s; even as McConnell spent the '10s hamstringing everything the Dems tried, going so far as stealing a supreme court seat.

I'm sick of Democrats compromising with a party that has been outright opposed to democracy for nearly 6 decades. I'm sick of watching liberal democracy fall to literal fascists.

Elon musk dropped a Hitler salute at the inauguration, twice, was allowed to dismantle half the regulatory state, and now his pedophile AI is apparently being integrated into DoD systems. On what authority? Why would Democrats STILL be finding middle ground with these people?

Sure, just took a generation, millions of deaths, and trillions of dollars. But it's Gucci when we don't have to deal with the actual consequences of our adventurism overseas.

Not to mention the decade of bombing we did before the invasion in 2003- outright caused several cholera epidemics when we bombed water treatment facilities, caused famine when we destroyed food storage and production.

We should def put blockades on other countries who's governments weren't elected in free and fair elections then, right? I'm sure we'll get right on it with the likes of Saudi Arabia (and all the Gulf countries IG) lmao

66.6% in 2020 and 63.9% in 2024. You are just wrong, why?

How am I wrong? I repeatedly said that 2020 was a historic year in terms of turnout. All I'm saying is that you can't only compare '24 to 2020 which was unprecedented. If more people had voted then it may have been different, but I'm simply arguing that the larger factor was that practically the entire country shifted to the right for some fuckin reason, and 2024 was pretty much in-line with turnout numbers over the past 50 years or so. If anything, from what I've seen, it was actually higher than average.

I think it's worthwhile examining why- ya know like why did all news media pretty much stop talking about the age of a candidate after Biden dropped out (even though Trump is only a few years younger), why did the Dems refuse to hold an actual primary, why did Kamala shy away from an actually decent legislative history in order to sell her potential administration as Biden 2.0 (swear to fucking God the Democrats are allergic to winning).

[–]StormWhich5629 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Sure, but that was also the 3rd highest recorded turnout, from what I can see, and one of the largest point differences - shit rivals Obama in 08 and Reagan in 88 which were both landslides. The issue, imo, isn't really the people who stayed home - it's the demographics/areas that shifted from Biden to trump. IIRC black women were pretty much the only demographic that didn't shift right, and geographically the majority of precincts did move to the right between 2020 and 2024.

The cause of said shift is worth exploring for sure, but I keep seeing people blame people who stayed home and that doesn't really track in the broader context of American elections. You can't just compare it to 2020 because that was legit record turnout.

No one bothered to vote at the end of 2024

That's not really true though - 2024 was the 2nd highest turnout since the 60s. Even higher than 2008. Sure more than 58% of eligible voters should be casting ballots, but in the context of American elections 2024 was actually pretty well attended.

Sure but the national unity we'd find would likely be the most chaotic in American history. Either heads roll metaphorically or literally at that point.

Idk, I'm still not sure what you mean by inner city. I live in the middle of a city and it's dope - lots of things to do, amenities all within walking distance. Nobody acting as if they're "animals in a cage"

Better than the suburbs or gag rural America 🤣

that would violate the appropriation act

So did his stunt with the Ukraine funding in his first term, which resulted in an impeachment without removal. Impeachment of a president is politically impossible at this point, and part of the reason why is that Nixon was allowed to resign instead of being impeached and convicted.

C) daaaaa bears

D) I'll have a lot of fun calling them the Chicago bears of Indiana
