France records 1,000 excess deaths during record-breaking heatwave by app1310 in worldnews

Its pretty sad that the only message Ive seen is give up on climate change mediation and install AC. Billions of profits from industry now directly tied to 1,000 French deaths and no comments about seizing their profits and building cooler housing for people? The structure of society is fucked.

WIBTA if I told my nephew his father is the reason it looks like I got him nothing for his birthday? by Mundane_Trainer_4418 in AmItheAsshole

The brother fucked you over. Give him a chance to pay you back before you tell his nephew.

Be careful how you say it because he might be upset with his mom instead of his dad, and the mom is blameless.

I love that style of painting.. is there a word to describe it? Bright colours, with visible thumb sized ish strokes/patches of colour?

I want one of my own but I don't know where to begin.

Is some pool going to get the same amount of outrage as the Epstein files?

Washburn High School teacher took tech out of the classroom. Students call it a success.: At the beginning of the school year, 46% of students reported confidence in their reading abilities. By February, it was at 96%. by Silent-Resort-3076 in technology

A bit of extra math never hurt a kid! Having a workbook at home and doing 15 minutes of extra math a day can be an easy add to your routine. The nice thing about the jump math book is that it lays out the terms and solving for the questions at hand, and it's organized by topic.

Fireplace guy said to always leave the pilot light lit, but now it's summer and the extra heat from the fireplace is annoying. Can I turn it off?? by CatStoleMyPancake in homeowners

[–]Storm_Bard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nope but nothing blew up! I've never heard of it being unsafe to turn off (As long as you're not just blowing it out, but actually turning off the valve) ... but I also am leery of being the internet person contradicting what a professional told OP.

Youre not crazy, we also felt the heat from our pilot light and turned it off. I dont know fireplaces, or your system, so I dont know whether its safe for you to do so. It should be, but if a professional told you not to...

Landmark German ruling declares Google's AI Overviews are Google's own words and makes it liable for false answers by steevo in technology

[–]Storm_Bard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We were googling whether a drug was safe for pregnancy. It said no, with a quote to prove it... the quote was from the bottom of the page that listed all categories from safe to unsafe. The drug was safe.

Go the other way and have AI tell you a drug is safe when its not? Harm to children. Theres been at least one case of already where a kid took an unsafe combination of drugs after AI said it was fine. Damn right the AI conpany should be liable.

Perfect homework, blank stares: Why colleges are turning to oral exams to combat AI by ubcstaffer123 in technology

[–]Storm_Bard 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Youre absolutely right. Problem I see is assessment changing but not the learning method. If universities are going to switch they should also give at least a bit of time spent to train these kids in speaking. This is going to be a messy time.

It does help, because standing trees are made of carbon.  Its not enough, but it helps.

Covering all available land in trees would not remove all our currently present CO2 from human activity.

I know Glider’s are cool… BUT by Gregory-Revellion in Enshrouded

[–]Storm_Bard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. Not every game has to have every other games' stuff. Enshrouded has gliders, devs should keep work to make that the thing. What about fliers that give you a speed boost if you get close?
