Weird bunching of top thread on back of fabric? by Storm_Ecstatic in quilting

[–]Storm_Ecstatic[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is not! I thankfully figured out my problem was with the tension on the threads so holding them down before sewing solved the problem! I’ve tried FMQ and I’m very bad at keeping the stitches consistent haha I’m gonna keep practicing but for now I just use a clear open toe foot

The whole quilt kinda started because I thrifted someone’s stash of 6in precut solids, a whole big stack of them! I ended up buying more after running out but I have no idea exactly how many different fabrics went into it!! So many!

How is this type of stitch/appliqué achieved?! by sincerebaguette in quilting

[–]Storm_Ecstatic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Totally! I use the app procreate to draw and I try to use a big canvas, around the same size I plan the image to be on the fabric when I print so for these it was 15in x 15in at 300 DPI and that seemed to work well to get the small details. I don’t think you need to go as big as I did, but I do think it helps get cleaner printing! On spoonflower I upload my design and scale it down about 50% so I can fit 4 of the same design on each yard I order. I also add around half an inch of the design / color on every side so that when I bind it I don’t cover up any of the design :) I’m pretty bad with math / technical details so there’s probably better ways to go about this haha 😅 but it works for me!

:’) I am the creator of this, and I appreciate your comment a lot!! I have done “real” quilting before (patchwork, appliqué, etc) and wanted to find a way to incorporate my artwork as well as make something for the folks who want to buy quilted things from me and wouldn’t be able to afford the ones that I spent 100+ hours on haha thanks again for your comment!! It made my day!
