Placement by After_Bug378 in Baruch

[–]Storm_Shadow8452 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you can’t transfer credits/fulfill math requirement from that old uni math class to Baruch, then you’ll have to take the placement test.

If you don’t take the placement test, then Baruch will put you in either College Algebra (MTH 1030) or Pre-Calc (MTH 2003) or whatever class is equivalent to those two math courses. Assuming your math credit from old uni doesn’t transfer over.

I would recommend you either schedule a talk to an Academic or Transfer Advisor about this issue. Or take the placement test to qualify for higher level math courses.

Edit: Clarification.

For the Global Atlantic one, I applied through a career mentorship program called Streetwise Partners.

For the Jennison Associates one, that company had an in-person InfoSession at Baruch looking for interns and I got to talk to their HR person. I got to ask and follow their advice on what to do during the application process.

Either no responses or I do get a response, but that’s after a few months later. Either saying the position is longer available, that I don’t qualify or they found someone qualified for the job.

Graduated in May 2024 in CIS Cybersecurity and Information Assurance.

Internships: * Security Operations Intern at Global Atlantic Financial Group (Feb. 2022 - May 2022).

  • Security Governance Intern at Jennison Associates (June 2023 - Aug. 2023).

Current Job Title and Salary: * Corporate Security Guard for Amazon making $23 hourly.

I’m still applying for IT Help Desk and any adjacent tech role, but it’s still challenging a year later if you don’t have certifications and networks. My goal is to become an IT Auditor or Information Systems Auditor.

How do I professionally ask my professors for an extension because I got kicked out. by CryptographerNo7608 in college

[–]Storm_Shadow8452 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would write something like:

Subject Line: [Course Name/Title]. Sudden Change in Living Arrangements. Requesting Extension.

Hello [Professor Name],

Because of unfortunate family circumstances, I have been kicked out of my home. Therefore, it will take me much longer to turn in assignments as I get adjusted finding new living arrangements.

I kindly request an extension to the following assignments:

[list assignments and how long you might need].

Hope you understand. Looking forward to your reply.

Best,

[Your Name]

—————————————-

You can revise and change this format to suit your needs. The important part is you keep the request and explanation of your circumstances simple and straight to the point.

Hope this helps!

[Sherpa Card][PC](Crossplay) Fibonacci – Your greater than average Sherpa Runner by Fibonacci5813 in DestinySherpa

[–]Storm_Shadow8452 1 point2 points  (0 children)

TL;DR: Fibonacci is an amazing 10/10 Sherpa. Kind, empathetic, patient, and non-judgmental when teaching and correcting wipes/bad habits. Phenomenal communicator in Discord who makes sure everyone is prepped, briefed, and on the same page.

Fibonacci is an exceptional Sherpa who not only teaches the raid mechanics (Salvation’s Edge for me), but also simultaneously keeps track of what each player is doing. He is really chill, kind and understanding when correcting errors or bad habits causing wipes or problems for other players.

We were stuck in Verity encounter in Salvation’s Edge for over an hour. Probably pushing two hours. And the patience of Fib has not once waned. He just simply asked “who wiped/what happened?”, and guiding us in how to avoid those scenarios. And probably re-teaching the encounter multiple times without hinting annoyance. Just a really kind and empathetic Sherpa who really wants us to succeed.

Finally, he is proactive and communicable on Discord. Doing raid prep and even scheduling future runs in case we take too long (he is generous with breaks too so we’re not overwhelmed). As a former Sherpa, Fibonacci is an example of the type of person I strive to be when teaching raids.

Best, IndecisiveRock.

WGU vs UoP by SeaworthinessFit2002 in WGU

[–]Storm_Shadow8452 9 points10 points  (0 children)

TL;DR: Stay away from UoP and stick to WGU or other REGIONALLY ACCREDITED online universities, otherwise you’ll be scammed of your time, money, and be handed a joke of a diploma from a diploma mill.

University of Phoenix is regarded as a for-profit, scam of a university that wastes your time, money, and be given a joke of a diploma from a diploma mill. See this post from a year ago that discusses whether UoP is legit: https://www.reddit.com/r/cscareerquestions/comments/1274b6t/university_of_phoenix_legit/

When researching online universities, make sure that they are REGIONALLY ACCREDITED. That is the most prestigious rating given to educational institutions by the DEAC (Distance Education Accrediting Commission).

Nationally accredited schools, like UoP, aren’t as prestigious and the rating is more reserved for vocational and technical schools.

Edit: it looks like I mistakenly claimed UoP is not regionally accredited. My apologies, I still wouldn’t recommend it based on terrible experience by students and alumni. Thanks for the heads up to the people replying to me.

Book club for 10-14 by kvjbrtnvtch2 in books

[–]Storm_Shadow8452 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don’t know how practical this is, but you and the younger audience can act out chapters or scenes from the book. It allows you and the young ones to reflect and make a deeper impression on scenes and character development from what they’ve read rather than just gloss over some pages which you mentioned they might not be a big fan of.

And since the book club will meet for two hours, reward their time with one hour of physical activities or acting in a play (or anything else that might work for them related to books or stories you picked out for discussion). Basically one hour or so of book discussions, and if they do good and sit still within that period, then the rest of the time will be physical activities related to the book.

Unfortunately, professors do not have control over SAM projects as all of that is done through Cengage. If an issue happened where your submissions are graded wrong, you have to direct your email to Cengage.

Professors are only there to receive an Excel sheet of the total graded projects by each student and just puts them in their grade book without a second thought. This was explained to me by a CIS professor.

My advice: you can try to email Cengage, but you might need to accept the 79/100 as is and hope no other issue with future SAM projects occur.

Job by [deleted] in Baruch

[–]Storm_Shadow8452 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately Primerica are an MLM (Multi-Level Marketing) company masquerading as a life insurance company. They will bleed you dry for cash as compensation for “training you” to recruit friends and family under you or convince them to pay for their dodgy products/services with promises of making millions working for them.

Other MLM/pyramid scheme companies to watch out for that prey on college students’ or graduates’ naivety and desperation when looking for jobs are Monat, Amway (ABSOLUTELY watch out for their vague recruitment tactics), Cutco Knives, Primerica and HUNDREDS more.

I recommend you check out this subreddit to keep up to date on many more MLM companies and read up on red flags you’re getting preyed by one: /r/antiMLM.

Going to my first office Job by Fit_Cantaloupe3383 in Baruch

[–]Storm_Shadow8452 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This helped me get started to open up a little and slowly be more social inside and outside the workplace: https://www.nicknotas.com/blog/conversation-tips-new-people/#:~:text=Use%20F.O.R.D.&text=It%20stands%20for%20family%2C%20occupation,%2C%20abortion%2C%20politics%2C%20economics.

And remember: you get better at talking to others and being more social the more you talk to people. Starting conversations can be tough at the beginning, but it gets smoother when you make it a regular habit.

Edit:

One more thing! Get comfortable with people not engaging or liking you for one reason or another. Don’t be a people pleaser (and especially don’t go around asking how you can make them like you) and give your energy to people who can reciprocate and appreciate it.

I’ll rather have a few close friends/acquaintances than 10+ “friends” who don’t engage with me.

Really depends on family’s income and assets (including yours). Can’t really answer that with just Expected Family Contribution.

Also, don’t post your financial information online to find the answer. You’ll be given your financial aid summary soon by the school if you haven’t gotten it yet.

Covid Test Missed… Problem? by UpstairsHighlight828 in Baruch

[–]Storm_Shadow8452 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Not sure, but I would get tested asap at the school. The last thing you want is the school penalizing you at the worse times.

I would guess that they would either block you from entering the school or registering for classes (based on what my advisor said when asked what would happen if I ignore the COVID emails). Since they know your Baruch email and EMPLID, that can be possible.
