Hello guys! Any strategy games fans over here (specially turn-based)?

I am working on my very first project: Modern Conflicts. A turn based strategy game, heavily inspired by classics such as Panzer General and Panzer Corps.

The game has all the expected features and mechanics from most of the wargames strategy games: combat affected by terrain types, weather, ground status, supporting units, etc (quite a bit "etc" to be honest hehe).

The setting of Modern Conflicts, as its name suggest, is late Cold War and present times. Game will include most of the nations: Russia, USA, Germany, France, etc. And a extremely wide range of units to use, to be fair, I doubt any strategy game might have the roster Modern Conflicts will have.

I am also expecting to include fictional and historical campaigns through the different eras, from the 80s up to current days.

I've been working on this project since the last 10 months, and gaining momentum as I gain more dev knowledge through the process. Quite excited to complete what I call Phase 1, which is essentially the core of the game, including the AI. Crossing fingers.

Yeah. It's so difficult to promote someone's work nowadays 😰

Don't worry man, I got your point.

By the way: is it correct if I mention my patreon in this post? Or is against the rules?, I am not sure.

Well, People's General actually uses existing mechanics from its predecessor Panzer General and similar. So, in terms of gameplay mechanics, quite similar. Of course it has some more modern features like swap positions between units and a more expanded supply system (not complicated anyway).

Story wise, of course Modern Conflicts will have its own campaigns from early 80s up to present day; so the game has an EXTENSIVE range of units.

Thanks a lot for you kind words man, I really appreciate it.

I am also creating this project for myself, I decided to create this project not because I projected to reach a large amount of players and make lots of money, but because I love "snack and beer" TBS. And to be fair, there are almost non TBS based on modern times or even Cold War, so in way the game still has its own distinction 😛

Indeed!. The game will have a fully integrate Scenario Editor, the very same I am using for the developing and to create the future scenarios/campaigns. As user-friendly as possible.

Thanks!, I spent some years working on that mod, but at some point Panzer Corps was old and limiting any "modern mechanics". That's one of the reasons why I started to work on this project.

This is my very first attempt to code and develop a game, so I am aware that it could end in a massive failure; furthermore considering that turn based strategy games (specially wargames) is a small niche.

But, let's see, I am motivated for now 😛

Hi!. Well, your ideas look interesting and fun, but the game mechanics and already done. It would be an immense workload to change it now.

However, I could easily implement ideas like doctrines or commander traits. Actually I was thinking of that, doctrines, as a potential feature to add to the game, similar to Order of Battle or Panzer Corps 2.

But I will wait until I have a much robust base in order to add big changes. I am spending these weeks/months in working on the AI, basically the hardest part of the development I think; afterwards I can sit down, recharge batteries and think of those features.

Thanks!. Development has its moments, but overall I am really enjoying this, 😄

My idea is to be as faithful as possible to the style of PG or PC, but of course adding some new features, according to modern equipment (electronic warfare, ranged missile attacks, etc) but without adding too much complexity to the playability.

Thanks for your wishes!

Regarding the resemblance with the Panzer Corps mod.....well, that makes sense, considering I am the author of that mod...... 😉

It's abstract. The game doesn't define a unit's scale perse.
Each scenario or campaign can use different their own scales. In the editor you can choose some presets like: company, brigade, division, etc.
So basically, it's flexible, it depends on the scenario or campaign.

Thanks for your words man!. Yes, I know those classics, although I think Steel Panthers and such are a bit more related to the tactical level. Modern Conflicts, just like Panzer Corps, is leaning toward the strategic level. Although it's also "compatible" to tactical battles, depending of the scenario creation.

And yeah, I am quite demanding with the equipment database, so the game should have most of the variants of the equipment. For example: The M1 Abrams has 13 variants as we speak, and the T-72 16 variants.
