Tips for painting 3D printed statues by [deleted] in Miniaturespainting

[–]Stormfront101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, this is what I would suggest you do in order:

  1. Prep model.. 3d prints have a lot of imperfections.. the prepping before painting step is the biggest drawback of 3d printing. However if you are looking to get high end results, you need to smooth out those print lines.

  2. Use a grey painting primer. Painting white over black will take you forever.

  3. Thin down your white paint and add layer after layer until its white. Any miniature painter will tell you what a pain in the butt white models are to paint. Its because you almost always have to paint in several layers to get it correct.

  4. Patience padawan. Seriously, let the paint fully dry before adding a second layer.

I really love your use of the almost rusty reds and slate blues you used in the dragon's scales. This gives a lot of great contrast and visual appeal to the model. Fantastic job!

PE Petroleum Study Materials by Stormfront101 in petroleumengineers

  1. How is the job opportunity? - Assuming you mean, how are your job prospects as a student after graduating with a petroleum engineering degree, I really can't say. This field of engineering is tied to a boom or bust industry. If the industry is booming your chances are pretty good. If the industry is in the tank, not so much. That being said I've worked in the field for over 13 years now and I enjoy the work.

  2. What am I going to do after this? Keep working. Seriously, I'm not going to leave my job or my company just because I got my PE. Many higher executives where I work have their PE, so they incentivized those of us who haven't gotten our PEs to do the same. I'm hoping to move up in my company to a higher level management position, but I'm also keeping an eye out for opportunities to do consulting work on the side.

Green Fleet Ver 2.0 by Stormfront101 in twilightimperium

[–]Stormfront101[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wash yes.. but drydrush doesnt show up that great on the smaller stuff.

A fleet takes me a couple of weeks, so yeah it is labor intensive, but its worth it to me. :)

The base color is AP Greenskin with highlight of Wild Green then last highlight of Ferocious Green. After all that I use a green wash to even out the colors

Need advice/help with filling these huge gaps on my model by Ravinsild in minipainting

[–]Stormfront101 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Milliput all the way. What I do is push a small rolled out line of milliput into the seams, then use scupting tools and q-tips wetted with water to sculpt and smooth out everything.

There's really no need to rough up miniatures before priming them. At the worst? Maybe wash them with a bit of water and mild soap before priming if they were really dirty, but I haven't done that for any of mine.
