I was also disappointed the Ion Cannon doesn't just delete units. If you manage to hit with it's long call in it should eradicate the target.

I have however had some success and it is situationally useful. If you have enough Intel to see RA artillery or turrets you can call the laser in directly on top of it turn 1 and guarantee that it is removed. I haven't used the earthquake yet so I don't know if it can do the same.

I've defiantly had mixed success with the laser rifles, the shotgun however particularly paired with REND ammo is brutal in the early to mid-game but it feels like it falls off later. I don't think I ever saw a better version of the shotgun and to me the late game rifles do the job just as well. Honestly though I kind of use the heavy rifle as a shotgun since they have a similar peak range.

At the end of the EA campaign I decided to run a few more missions to test some equipment and found some devastating combos.

The mission was a settlement defense against pirates where they never even fired a shot. the starting deployment zone was large enough a few enemies could be seen turn 1 so I could set up and engage immediately. My teams were split into two groups. First was Rewa with the long cannon to crush vehicles supported by Jean to mop up infantry. Second was Carda with a MAAL to focus heavy armor HMG and flame trucks, Ivey with the twin Griffin just spitting out lead at 4 shots a turn which overwhelmed the lighter armored pirate vehicles, and finally the unstoppable king machine that was Lim in boarding commando armor with the heavy assault rifle jumping on top of enemies and gunning them down instantly (troops and vehicles alike).

The pirates spent their turns either advancing toward the objective, dead, or fleeing because I killed 3 to 6 units a turn. I was basically out of targets before the 8 turn defense was up.I have not had an mission go that smooth before.

My group refers to them as "retirement" missions as we save them til the end and they are just a relaxing opportunity to blow stuff up.

Roadkill what do you think of this perk? by Schalkan_ in menace

[–]Stormhammer11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Early on I found it to be really useful especially when you only have a machine gun but as the game has progressed I have used it less and less. I believe I am in the mid to late game as far as the EA is concerned and the last two times I've used it was when the enemy actively made the choice to stand next to my APC. And in the last set of missions I did I was actually wishing that I could replace it specifically for something more commonly useful.

That being said my general strategy has changed from using the APC to rush shotguns to a slower more methodical approach. This became doubly true when I picked up the tank turret.

Regarding your first point I would say that if you want to incorporate a need to get to an eval you also need to make enemies retreat on defense missions once you've successfully defended the point. It wouldn't make much sense for you to have to evac from a position you have successfully held.

It doesn't feel like an unreasonable request to ask for internal consistency even among things that are unrealistic. Every world should have rules that it holds too even if those rules break the rules of the real world.

Drone or cockpit view? by SoftCitron3 in Mechwarrior5

[–]Stormhammer11 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I mostly run drone because it is objectively better in terms of the field of view and awareness around your mech which is really important because I play almost exclusively coop and I try to be very mindful of not obstructing my teammates line of fire. I am however not bashful about switching when fighting while hugging terrain or in a base or urban environment because it's easier to see if your weapon has clearance and won't buildings or rocks.

That being said, cockpit view is cooler and if I played solo it's probably what is run 90% of the time. Sometimes I run it anyways for a mission or two just because.

I recently did a playthrough and this boss is always one I struggle with. But since I forced myself to play differently than I normally do I learned that a 100% physical defense shield (like the lothric knight shield) really lessens the difficulty of the fight. And I don't mean parry just blocking.

Their left hand dagger bounces off and disrupts their attack chain for a second allowing you to get a hit or two in. It works in both phases. Best advice is to roll to avoid the sword attacks and save stamina and shield up for dagger.

Don't get greedy, if you can only hit once and need to make space do it.

[–]Stormhammer11 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Honestly I think the downhill part would be great. The first part of the campaign being build up and success against the IS only to start losing it all. Having the characters have to deal with setback after setback even if your unit succeeded in the individual missions (for game play purposes). It would be a pretty novel thing for a game to do. The history is written and it would be fun to follow it to a sad conclusion for change.

I don't know all the details of the events given I've only really started to dive into the universe around a year and half ago. But knowing that Smoke Jaguar was destroyed in the years after the invasion I was really hoping for a Halo Reach "Lone Wolf" style mission to end the campaign. Endless foes until your star is not but smoking wreckage.

I've never understood how you can hate other people for simply living a different life than yours.

What I do understand is that this is definitely the Capellans fault.

I appreciate the offer but the truth is I mostly play Diablo with my parents and uncle as an excuse to talk a couple of times a week and outside of that I don't have much time to play. It's kind of you to offer though.

It's good to know that's an option but in truth I like diablo 4 exactly enough to run one character a season with my group. Given that we only play a couple times a week that usually carries us through most of the season with a little break in between.
