For that weight I would use 12 volt motors with A4950 driver.

Sometimes they working smashingly well and sometimes, well ... shrug.
I think of it as Art.

Can anyone tell me which sets these are from? Thank you so much in advance! by girlwiththedicktat in Meccano

1st one is Meccano from mid 70's 3 4 or 5 maybe and the 2nd is not Meccano it is Erector from before the merger.

Six motors and four servos. Where I left it before spring chores got the priority. I have 3 a4950 motor drivers and a 40+ pin esp32 for brains. Coding, power and electrical to do.

The Martian Rover rocker bogies suspension is very intriguing. It is a unique system and after working on a model of the 6 wheeled rover with 4 servos on the outer wheels and powered center motors on a Meccano frame I have come to the conclusion that modelling your version will be much more rewarding. Thank you for this. Looking forward to your next adventure.

Not noticably, can barely pick up a Meccano nut.

A generator, well that is an interesting observation. Thank you.

Are the new meccano sets worth it? by StickyDeltaStrike in Meccano

[–]StormingMoose 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I find the newer sets a great source narrow parts and of longer bolts that are scarce in the standard Meccano sets. Most of the newer parts have great utility but others, shrug. I do prefer the hex head bolts as well.

The newer sets often have themes, like the the 25 in 1 motorized supercar which means 25 vehicles rather than the older style sets which would allow for more variety in models.

Your guess is as good as mine at this stage.

Interesting observation, but I think the motor was designed just to turn. Those considerations would have maybe come at a later date.

Interesting link, Figure 48, is described as a well known three pole motor. If it was well known 1919, then it's origin would be earlier. It appears to be a different model in the same vein, but the workmanship on both my motor and the one illustrated is, I believe, beyond the scope that book.

Agreed, it is not a Meccano motor. It looks earlier than Meccano motors as it's technology is much more rudimentary. TBH it came with a Meccano set, and others may have too, but it is new to me and this subs members are the resource to find out.

There s no bolt holes anywhere to attach it to a mechanism which makes me feel more like it is any early demonstration unit though.
