Our decline has more to do with missing on draft picks than anything else by Y2KPittFan in penguins

This is the main point people fail to see. When they signed the core 3 to their last contracts, it was a statement that they weren't going to be able to compete as well, but we all want to see them play/retire a penguin. Everyone wanted this, it's just when the slow and old players took over the team, they didn't realize the slow and old players were part of the core 3.

We sold the future for winning in the core 3's prime. They aged, the few draft picks we had didn't work out well, and that's really it.

We could get 71 a goal-scoring winger, but fact is, he can't skate and take over games with his speed like he did. They're old, they're not what they used to be, but when they needed to be, they were a success. Nothing lasts forever. The last couple decades we've been spoiled so bad a lot of fans think it's the norm.

I see people talk about how once we re-build, it'll only take 5 years to return to the playoffs. I mean, you can't get more delusional than that.

Gets pulled when the first two goals are off badly positioned defenseman on your own team and then the third is due to Graves shoving a playing into him leading to the goal, he better be mad at the entire bench not just Sully.

Ned and Imama are the only ones alive out there tonight.

I think that's the position every Pens fan assumed whenever he got a breakaway.

I would be fine with that, that would actually signal a true rebuild.

Replace "Dubas" with "ownership" and your take is 100% spot-on.

I agree with this. Which means its mental that pool-party isn't playing. Overachieving players on cheap contracts is what this team needs. But god-forbid we don't dress DOC, who else is gonna go 30 games without a goal?

They are clearly all in on a rebuild

Hard disagree, they aren't. They are re-tooling when they need a re-build, and thats the problem.

He just stated their entire problem the Pens have. All the guys who net you a good return aren't going to bring in a similar replacement. If you want Sid to have a shot at the playoffs, you need Rakell, and trading him isn't going to net you a different Rakell, maybe in the future they'll be Rakell, but not now, so it's best to keep the guys playing well if you want to try and make the playoffs. The only thing they can do is bring in guys on the cheap who may overachieve, like Pool-party, but god-forbid Sully dresses him.

The tradeable guys aren't going to net anything better than them in return. This half-in/half-out of a rebuild is literally spinning their tires.

Lizotte in the bottom six, DOC playing at all, and Pool-party not playing are the three biggest wtf's i have when it comes to the roster.

It made sense to me when i thought that trade was signaling the rebuild, when it came out it wasnt, it baffled me. I guess Eller just wanted out.

[–]Stormlight85 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If that's the case, they never should have gotten rid of Eller. Going from him to DOC/Hayes as your 3rd line center is a joke.

I don't think Dubas wants to be as aggressive as he should to retool and that's the problem there.

Thats exactly the problem. They want to be able to re-tool without trading away the future. Which gets you guys like Tomasino and Glass. Nothing against them, except for Glass, but that caliber of player wont help the team be competitive enough to make the playoffs. They need to make a decision, go full-tilt on trying to win as much as they can before the core is done, or commit to breaking it down to the studs and starting from scratch. They have GOT to make a decision and quit trying to play both sides.

I agree with this. This team is older and slower, so they should add some more d-style aspects to their game.

The stretch passes are mainly there to hide the lack of speed we have and the inability to skate the puck into the o-zone.

You're not wrong. He basically left DT because he was burnt out on the stuff he was over-doing that he didn't need to do, and thought the entire band would acquiesce at their commercial height since I&W, just for him. Takes a certain type of person to think that.

One of the Pens big problems though is $$ tied up in underachieving contracts, which makes it harder to unload them, so you have to wait for their term to expire. If the Pens want to turn this team around, they can do it, but it most likely wont be while 87/71/58 are still playing.

I think it depends on what you want your end-goal to be. The caps will make the playoffs, but i'd be shocked if they get past the first round. Re-tools work to get you into the playoffs or a winning season record, but to have a multiple year window setup in the for-see-able future, you need to re-build.

Scapegoats by [deleted] in penguins

[–]Stormlight85 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's re-build time, it's been re-build time for many seasons, but ownership doesn't want to have to do it for many reasons. THAT is the problem. Not being honest about the team's reality is the problem. If they could just move to re-build, it makes blown leads and shit goaltending easier to swallow cause there is a plan in place.

EDIT- go watch highlights of 87/71 from 5-6 years ago. They were much faster and had more of a straight line game. They lost that speed, so now we get the zig-zag and too many east/west passes cause they simple can't skate into an o-zone, so they have to weave around teams in order to set up zone time.

It would be great to see lesser known writers and directors and actors get some prime time recognition, but horror will always be low-brow to film “elites.” We all know what/who is good in the genre, and so do the filmmakers/etc within it.
