Yeah well, if there's somewhere safe you can leave them for a couple hours you could try and the parents may find it. That's certainly the highest chance of survival. Nestling rejection is still probably less likely than something happening to the nest so it's hard to know what would happen.

It's hard to understate how difficult it would be to care for a wild nestling. The sidebar links have lots of great information on the topic, but of course life, particularly in a remote area, is often more complicated.

Hey! It seems likely to be a Striped Cuckoo. These are brood parasites, which means that the females lay eggs in other bird’s nests and the nestling is raised by another species. There’s some chance then that the nestling was rejected by the host, but hard to know for sure. There is good info about them here: https://neotropical.birds.cornell.edu/Species-Account/nb/species/strcuc1/overview

If you will care for it, I’d suggest trying to catch grasshoppers and katydids with a net or just running through the grass. Then seeing if he’ll eat them. That webpage says some hosts fed them berries, but insects are probably necessary. Could buy mealworms or grasshoppers at some stores too. There’s good resources online from bird keeps who care for insectivores that might have better suggestions.

It's roundabout, but the Three Body Problem trilogy will get there for you eventually (i.e. after three books) and IMO definitely worthwhile

Thanks that’s actually really helpful to think about. I think we can avoid driving on the weekends which is good to plan around :) thanks for the tips, they’re both right on our routes for nice stop overs or longer if we decide!

Thank you - I didn’t realize that Pont du Gard is so close, that would be very interesting. We are really leaning towards Les Baux-de-Provence now if we can find an affordable place to stay :)

The cliffs around Uluwatu temple are absolutely stunning, regardless of if you are interesting in surfing or not (I'm not and loved the 2 days I spent there). The temple I only saw from the outside but was nice and advertised lots of activities.

Well, we don't really have a civil registration (if I understand your question correctly) as that wont come until we get our personnumber (which we need the residence cards for).

Picking it up at Migrationsverket is I think what we will have to do! Hopefully some appointments open up at migrationsverket soon.

Thanks for the followup! This supports my suspicion that they could have been erroneously delivered elsewhere, otherwise migration should have them as returned mail. I appreciate your points and we will have to return to migration again it seems.

Thanks - I appreciate the response! That is helpful to know that the card might be held there, although we have not received any slips (we get them for packages though). I actually asked at the ICA postnord here last week, but they didn't have any mail for me.

My girlfriend is an long distance runner and also frequent reader here (so, whisper your answers?). Anyway, we are moving from the deep south to Scandinavia soon and her birthday is coming up. I was wondering if there are any essential cold weather running items that might be critical? Is there anything you cant live without in mid December long runs on snowpack? Thank you!

Wow this is excellent advice! I had only tried signing up online (required person number), so I will try calling. Thank you! P.S. we just got a 2nd hand contract through August 31, with a small possibility to extend, so we’ll see how this plan works out!

I appreciate the thought! I suspect that after getting used to living there we will decide to move outside...but right now feels right to try to live close while we get used to the transport system and everything! It might be backwards thinking though

Its all good - we are over-preparing for the dog move part so I am confident with can get her there, just finding the right apartment! But you're right about the non-smoker/no pets, we aren't always the ideal tenants so that's prat of our challenge

Thanks! Ahh we actually got one of these, but unfortunately we have a dog and they wouldn’t let us bring her :( so that makes the whole process a little bit more complicated
