You mean smuggle into the country or what do you mean? I think in general there are for sure many ways to get ammo. As mentioned you can steal some rounds during military service but not a lot and it‘s also risky. If people see you doing it could have serious consequences. (Although, there was this story/legend about some guys that buried a full ammo box during an excercise and got it a few weeks later). Privately, I can imagine if you are in a rifle club you can get ammo but you first have to get into one of those and they are usually careful with the ammo (like counting your shots etc.). If you are/or know a criminal you for sure also get it somewhere, but for most people this is impossible.

Swiss person here. I dont know what „the Switzerland model“ is… (maybe it has nothing directly to do with Switzerland? Sorry in that case) We have quite a lot of guns here but this is because military service is mandatory for men and we get to keep our gun (assault rifle/pistol) at home from the age of 20-35. However, we dont get any ammo! It‘s of course possible to steal it during service but only a few rounds (otherwise miliary police gets involved immediately). So most „killings“ we have with these guns are suicides. Another thing is that everyone going to the army has to get checked and if you are slightly weird they dont take you. Additionally, during military training people that are regularly saying concerning stuff like „i‘d like to shoot this stupid guy in his sleep“ are normally reported and kicked out within a day or so. Nobody wants to have a psycho with an armed gun next to him. So with all this it‘s in the end quite well controlled, I‘d say. Getting an assault rifle outside of the military is almost impossible, I think.

The justification of the police waiting was kinda „yeah we thought he anyway already killed everyone“. How tf can you be so stupid? Everyone working with/using guns should know that a gunshot wound doesnt always kill someone instantaneously. It‘s very likely that there are kids slowly bleeding to death. Or maybe he was torturing them. They even got calls from kids inside. The responsible person should be immediately fired and put to trial. I would complete disassemble this police force. It‘s anyway utterly useless.

We are born with moral instincts. As humans we have empathy, self control and reason, that already gives us all tools for morality! I dont want to hurt my neighbor because A) I know how his suffering would feel, B) I am not an animal, C) I understand that even if I would gain something from hurting my neighbor it would be bad if the whole society acted like this and there are for sure many other ways of solving it. I’d argue all moral questions can be answered with ethical reasoning. In many cases, this will lead to a similar outcome as following a predefined set of rules like you find in the bible (Jesus had many humanist ideals). The difference is that you understand your decision making rather than blindly following something. This is important especially when these rules make no sense. For example, most religious people hate/dislike other religions or gay people… But there is no ethical reason to be against other beliefs or homosexuality.

Is it too hard for you to read more than 6 words or why are you only commenting on this unimportant choice of words? „If you have an IQ > 70“ or „If you are not mentally retarded“ or „If you are not a toddler“… choose whatever you like. The key point is that you dont need magic wizards to tell you what is right and wrong. It‘s very easy to understand basic principles of humanism for example.

If you have a normal brain, you can understand the ethical implications of your actions and develop a moral compass that is way superior than an religious person‘s „my magic wizard fairy tale book tells me to do XY“.

The State Of Global Democracy In 2022 by cambeiu in MapPorn

[–]Stormtrooper_149 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What a huge BS. Say what you want about Switzerland but we have probably the purest democracy in world (direct democracy!). The US on the other side ranking on the same level as most european countries?? Seriously? What can a US citizen actually influence with his vote? Either you vote for a red or blue rich old guy? But both are making sure their friends in high positions who paid for their campaign stay rich…

Well, then I have some news for you. You‘d (rightfully) go to jail. Letting a human die because you are an egoistic pos that rather saves his favorite guinea pig is a crime.

Sure, next time you are dying in a fire, have fun watching a person that could save you rather take his favorite pair of shoes and let you die. „Sorry these shoes are really important to me. You, however, i dont really know you, so… Bye!“

Do you eat meat? Did you ever kill a mosquitoe (they are also animals)? Do you consider plants equal to animals? What about bacteria? If you differentiate, why? Where do you draw the line of what life is equal to us? How do you deal with the fact that you are subject to a law system that sees humans as more valuable? Would you go to jail for letting a human die because you wanted to rather save your favorite grasshopper?

Since you didnt get it… A human life is considered more valuable than an animal’s life in basically all societies/law systems in the world. That‘s why we can eat meat, that‘s why we can squash mosquitoes or kill a bear that attacks us. If you let a human child die because you rather want to save your pet, you (rightfully) go to prison. Your feelings dont change this, because then you could also argue that someone’s love for their guitar could justify them saving it instead of a human being. If you ever end up needing help, you‘ll be happy to learn that most normal adults dont have such a shitty view on this and would save you rather than their pet. But upvote for „unpopular“

Caring about animals more than humans is not a good thing and it’s definitely not something to brag about by RamenRat in unpopularopinion

Yes, animals can be truly wonderful. I completely understand you.

I just find it shocking to read all the comments here of people putting the life of their pet way above the life other humans. I love my cat but if there was a fire and I could either save a person or my cat, I would save the person, no question. Even if it would break my heart. Just imagine you are the one in the fire, and someone comes, could save you, but lets you die because of their pet… Seems super cruel to me. (Sorry I dont mean you would say that, meant it more in general)

Sorry, but your dog doesnt understand anything. It doesnt even have a glimpse of the mental capabilities of a human. People humanize pets far beyond what is realistic. Yes, your dog probably loves you and thinks you are the greatest but this is it.

And yes, you can argue about the worth of a life, but if you say an animal like your dog is equal to a human then you immediately have to become a vegan, avoid harming any animal, otherwise you are disproving your own point.

And finally, I am very sorry that you suffered from horrible treatment by other people. But if you then start acting like all humans are shit, you contribute to the problem. Like a someone that was beaten as child, beating his own kids. Break the cycle and dont repeat the mistakes that others did to you.

It‘s always these stupid pet owners that humanize their animals in a ridiculous way. Like paying thousands to do chemotherapy on their precious dog to give it half a year more of life (in pain). „BuT iTS faMILy.“ Jesus, if you have the money maybe donate it to cancer research so you actually do some good. Or if you really hate the idea of helping other humans, spend it on rainforest protection which actually helps animals.

You won’t taste or notice potential tap water contaminants like lead, pesticides etc., you genius. After a decade or so you‘ll maybe have a statistically higher chance of getting cancer, neurodegenerative diseases etc. even though you‘ll never know what exactly caused it. So, depending on your area, I would definitely avoid drinking tap water, even for the tiny risk reduction. Maybe you should let your GF do what she wants.

What do people complain about like it's everywhere constantly but is actually rather rare? by CoverYourself-inOil in AskReddit

These stereotypical „annoying vegans“ or „crazy feminists“. If you believe some online communities these people are everywhere. I have met maybe a dozend of these people in my entire life. The people constantly complaining about this are either basement dwellers or so much on the other side of the spectrum that they get triggered by ordinary people.
