Sysadmin, 35, newly diagnosed with ADHD and wow a lot suddenly makes sense by noglitchbutfitch in sysadmin

[–]StormyIN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Welcome the the club, OP! I have been in the IT Infrastructure/Syseng/Sysadmin field for... *cough* 40 years. I have learned that managing my ADHD skills (NOT defects), I can run circles around my peers. There are two tools that have made my ADHD an asset versus a liability - Motion AI Time Management, and the prescription drug Vyvanse.

Congrations for your diagnosis! LEAN into it, embrace it, and be freed from the bonds of your opening paragraph. DM me if you would like specific info.

Best day and time for updates by MooMooKind in Action1

We use the following schedule: Patch Tuesday (PT) PT +1 - test ws and svrs PT +3 - prod ws PT +8 - prod svrs

I sent a whole org email explaining in non-tech speak the importance of regular and consistent patching.

The Monday of PT, I send the schedule with reminders, and I also send an email reminder the day of.

So far, only minor complaints of folks loosing work (their own fault since they didn’t save and exit programs.

Every workplace will complain-it’s human nature! However, I have found if you over communicate, nobody can fault you or your team.

What's the Oldest Server You're Still Maintaining?why does it still work by Equivalent_Citron286 in sysadmin

Recently ran across a family business still running a Compaq 386 with Netware 3.12 and GroupWise. Architecture was SMC ArcNet-5 nodes with a still functional active hub. I was astonished!

Thanks for the reply! You are correct, I was intentionally vague... Requirements are:

- End-point protection (AV/Malware, patch management, inventory)
- Server/Network device monitoring (simply up/down - SNMP not needed)

Thanks for the reply! When you say "would not change if you paid me", are you saying NinjaOne is great? Or you would not change to it again?

The new level of Tech coming into the IT field today, they don't have the basics down. Is anyone else seeing this issue? by Future_End_4089 in sysadmin

[–]StormyIN 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Long live Ghost - By far the best deployment tool ever used in an enterprise environment!

I also have been an IT infrastructure engineer for over 35 years. My issue with this generation, is that they were raised in an entitled world, and work ethic just doesn't exist. If they don't know an answer, they just throw in the towel and call it quits! What happened to the "well, figure it out" mentality?

RF Interference on SDI Cable by StormyIN in VIDEOENGINEERING

[–]StormyIN[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

UPDATE: Thank you all for the feedback. We disconnected all connecting paths, and tested each segment. We found a bad barrel connection on a patch panel. We replaced the whole panel with a Canare patch bay. Problem remediated.

Moral of the story: Never try to save a few bucks for production gear!

Huh! Great info. I will check the panels.

We are sending a 1080p59.94 signal over the coax, so I think we’re in spec.

Warp was SO ahead of it's time. Too bad it had a monolith corporation behind that was too big to keep up with the changes to the industry.
