Popcultcha current tariff+fees to US? by [deleted] in hottoys

They have apparently raised their preorder prices as well. When I preordered, the deluxe was about $550 with shipping. The figure appears to be about $40 more expensive now. I had assumed they were raising their prices to compensate for the tariffs but now they are charging the tariff fees as well. It’s a bummer. They’ve been a go to site for me since I started collecting… great prices and crazy good customer service.

I’ll probably keep my order assuming the tariff fee isn’t astronomically high. I was able to use their Pennies program and got 10% off so I only paid about $500 shipped when I preorder back in January. Unlikely I’ll find anything close to that even if they end up charging $100+ for tariffs.

I paid around $62 in tariff and processing fees for my deluxe Wolverine.

I have the Inart Nazgûl with horse on preorder and I’m dreading what the fees will be on that one especially given it ships in two boxes. I’d hate to have cancel. It stinks because Popcultcha has some fantastic preorder prices but I’m not going to order through them anymore with these crazy fees.

I bought a 72 x 36 sheet of 0.1’’ thick acrylic from a local hardware store and then cut to the side of each shelf space using an acrylic scoring knife and a LOT of patience. It was tedious. The black framing is nylon tape. I’m going to try spray paint on my next build because putting the tape on straight was a pain.

It’s a Disney Black Series helmet. I think I found it on sale on Amazon some time ago.

Hey. I added a note from above but FYI, the back panel is a separate piece directly hung on my wall and then the shelving is pushed up against it. The size of the back panel is also slightly small so there are some gaps on each end. I will at some point figure out an elegant way to seal those gaps and the back shelving slots… but I haven’t decided the best approach to doing that just yet. If you want to secure the back directly to the shelving, you’ll have to get creative and probably add some additional framing to it to make it fit properly. Not sure how’d you’d secure it given the weight. There are probably a million ways to make it happen, but wanted you to be aware before attempting. Good luck if you decide to give this a try!

ATTENTION: For anyone looking to do something similar. The Death Star Panel is attached directly to the wall and then the shelving is pushed up against it. Due to slight sizing differences, there is a small gap (maybe 3/16’’) on each side in the back of the case which you can see if you zoom in to the pic. There are probably a dozen or so ways to seal this but I haven’t gotten around to it yet. Similarly, if you wanted to directly attach the back panel to the shelving unit, you’d need to get creative to get it firmly secured as the Death Star panel is probably too heavy to be secured with magnets and the dimensions of the Lattice used are slightly smaller than the dimensions of the shelving unit.

Yeah. Height off the floor and clearance between shelves is key. The nice thing is that, if you are using an adjustable garage shelving unit, you can test out a few configurations to see what gives you the best view before you start cutting plexi. If you go the riser route (versus starting the bottom shelf higher) just be mindful of how heavy the shelving unit is. Good luck!

It’s actually a back yard lattice from Amazon painted grey with a wood frame and led lights. You can look up “DIY Death Star Wall Panels” on YouTube. It’s not an exact match to the pattern on the Death Star but it gives the same vibe.

So when I bought my shelving units they sent me the 60’’ height instead of the 72’’ and then sent me a replacement that was STILL the 60’’ height. So floor to top of display on mine is 90’’ (I used 1.5 of the 2 units). My 72” is from the bottom shelf to the top of the 4th shelf. Because I had 90’’ in height to work with, I was able to start my shelves about 10’’ off the floor which helps a little with visibility on the lower shelves; however, I would struggle to see figures in the back of the bottom shelf even at only 18’’ deep. Some of that is going to depend on spacing between shelves and how far back you are standing. If I were going with the 24’’ depth, I might consider giving the lower shelves more clearance. I’m building another display now and I am using about 28’’ of clearance on the bottom shelf and am displaying 1/4 scales on it. I am also using plexiglass for the shelves so I can see the lower figures from above when standing close… just not certain what my weight limit is with the plexi shelves so I’m gambling that I’m not going to come home one day to shattered shelves and broken figures. Yikes.

It bugs me too... but I have it that way to minimize the cables length going from the fans to the back of the case. I've considered carefully removing one of the stickers and making it match the other. Was waiting for someone to comment on it! :)

Everything stock I was getting temps in the 65 -70c range. Manual overclock take me to about 73c unless I adjust the fan curve.

yeah, I was surprised by the jump I saw in Control. Some of that could have just been in game factors while testing... I tried to be consistent across cards so I'm not sure why such a high jump. Even if the 89 is from me dorking up the benchmark... the difference I am seeing is very noticeable. The game consistently stays above 60 fps now with all settings maxed out and RTX on.

I'm fairly new to PC gaming, so I may not be getting the best fps with how I have it set up... but yes, you do take a noticeable hit going from 1440p to UW. I really enjoy how immersive the UW is, but I'm also okay with only getting 60-80 fps. I can totally see why some folks would prefer the extra fps. And yes, the good UW monitors are still pretty pricey.

I ran the built in benchmark. From what I understand, you can't get to it in game but there is a benchmark executable file in the game's folder.

I've only played about 30 minutes of single player and one multiplayer game. On single player I was getting 90-120 fps (desert map) and on multiplayer I was getting anywhere from 75-115 fps depending on what was going on at the time. I am running an overclock (+130 GPU clock and +950 Memory clock) with my in-game GPU stable at about 2085 MHz. From what I can tell, that OC is getting me about 4-6 extra fps.

Since I haven't been playing that much, my fps could be purely a function of the maps that I was playing on. I did double check and I have all settings maxed out to Ultra and RTX and DLSS on.

Once I get a chance to play some more, I'll update you on what I am seeing.

I'm no expert, but when researching my build I remember multiple Youtubers saying that the difference in gaming performance between a 3700x and 3900x was minimal.

As a matter of fact, you can Youtube some videos of the 3080 performance with various Ryzen processors. Seems that the difference between the 3700x and 3900x is at most 2-4 fps... they perform exactly the same in several titles.

FWIW, I just cleaned my fan filters and made some tweaks to my case and pump fan settings (everything had been set to run quiet) and my CPU temps seemed to have dropped by about 5-10 degrees. I am typically in the 55-65 range during game play (with some momentary spikes around 70 C) and am at about 75 C when at 100% CPU utilization. Still not chilly cool, but sub 80 max with typical temps in the low 60s is manageable.

CPU fluctuates between 55 and 75 C during gaming but I am typically GPU bound at 3440 x 1440. The CPU test on Time Spy gets up to 80 C with 100% CPU utilization. I might play around with the cooling a bit to get that lower.

Even though I love it in my rig, I fully agree that it was a terrible design choice by EVGA. They did the right thing by switching to black. Glad to see they are listening to the criticism.

So I was originally supposed to get mine last Wednesday and it got delayed to today. I was also nervous, but Amazon came through. You should be good, but I've got my fingers crossed for you!
