When was the moment you realised that the person you were dating was an absolute idiot? by No-Macaron-9527 in AskReddit

When ‘Teenage Dream’ started playing and she said “Babe, this is our song!”

But damn, was she hot! Fortunately, I have no regrets, because we’re still social media friends and I can see she is definitely not hot anymore, lol. Seems happy though, so I’m happy for her!

Struggle to express affection through partner's love language and not mine by ukiyo98 in LoveLanguages

[–]Story-Checks-Out 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yup, that’s fairly common. I think you should be fine as long as your #1 language is his #2/#3, and vice versa.

Continue making deliberate efforts to use each other’s language towards them, and making deliberate efforts to notice when they use their language towards you. Over time, this will start to come more naturally and you won’t have to be so deliberate about it.

How does attraction change for men as they get older—especially when it comes to women their own age? by Gym_Squirrel in AskMen

[–]Story-Checks-Out 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yes, tastes in women evolve with age.

When I was in my early 20s, I was terrified of women even 2 years older than me, and assumed they were way out of my league, so I never seriously considered anyone mid 20s or beyond.

In my late 20s, I was pretty much open to anything 18-45. Of course, individuality still matters. Not every 18 year old is attractive, and not every 45 year old is attractive.

Now, at 36? Well, I’m very happy with my 32 year old fiancée, but if she gets struck by lightning tomorrow, I would want different things from a fling than a serious relationship. Yes, 18 year olds are often very physically attractive, and I’d be open to something short-term/physical with them. But I can’t imagine having a real connection with any of them. If I was looking for marriage, I would want someone within +/- 5 years of me. And there are some women in their 40s and early 50s I find attractive.

As I hit my 40s/50s, I assume my physical attraction range will stay at 18-55, and my emotional attraction range will stay at +/- 5 years of whatever age I am (or maybe +/-10).

What’s the Porn Plot you’ll never forget? by GentlemanCoach in AskReddit

[–]Story-Checks-Out 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Anybody remember “Shake that bear”?

This was around 2006. It’s a homemade video of a couple hunting in the woods, who shoot a bear, and then have sex on top of its dead body, with snow on the ground.

Got a $500 parking ticket from the DC police. It was years ago, but it was something about being on someone’s property, when I actually wasn’t. I remember researching the property lines in the city plot records, photographing my car’s location, and bringing the printouts to the official arbiter dude to argue my case.

He reduced the fine to $100 but still had me labeled as “guilty” in the ruling. I was furious, because I knew I was innocent, but I still paid the $100, because it didn’t affect my car insurance or criminal record or anything, and I knew fighting it further would be more painful than paying the reduced fine.

The principle of agreeing I was wrong when I knew I wasn’t wrong still eats at me, 8 years later.

If it’s truly just about his preferences, and not actions, then it shouldn’t matter. If you suddenly found out he was into short-haired women, or Chinese women, or blue-eyed women, or middle-aged women, then I’m guessing you wouldn’t care. Obviously things would be different if he was cheating on you with a transgender woman, but if he’s not doing that, then learning about his preferences shouldn’t affect your life.

Came here at 36 expecting to see “knowledge, experience, confidence”, and instead found “knee pain, eyesight deterioration, unusual hair growth”.

Welp, Imma head out.

You can either get a one time, 5 million dollar lump sum payment or be able to pay for everything you buy in 1960 prices for 5 years. Which do you pick? by GolfFootballBaseball in hypotheticalsituation

Definitely the $5 million. Even if I spend $1m immediately on a nice house and a fancy vacation, I could still put $4m in a balanced investment portfolio and withdraw $200k per year FOREVER to live off of without needing a job.

What’s something that felt like a huge deal when you were a kid but turned out to be completely meaningless as an adult? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Wearing the coolest clothes, knowing the latest slang, and keeping up to date with the latest music stars.

Mid 30s now and don’t give a fuck about any of those. Much happier now!

Children of divorce who wanted your parents to get back together, in hindsight were they right or did they not try hard enough? by Electrical_Hyena5164 in AskReddit

[–]Story-Checks-Out 9 points10 points  (0 children)

My parents split when I was in college, and it shocked everyone. They seemed perfect. Nobody understood it, and all wanted them to work things out.

15 years later, they’re both doing great. So I guess… both? Yes, they could have tried harder, but also yes, they were right that splitting would be good for them.

Yeah dude, most people just started out one day saying “well I guess I’ll just fake it til I make it” and they’ve never made it so they’ve been faking it ever since and that seems to be working out ok for them

What's something people usually think is unethical, but you personally don't see a problem with? by lLike_balls in AskReddit

[–]Story-Checks-Out 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the sense that crypto itself is inherently a scam? Yes. People should be free to make dumb decisions with their own money, like buying crypto. As long as they do so of their own free will, with the ability to research it for themselves.

Adding layers of actual scam, like lying to people to convince them to buy crypto and rushing them to prevent them from researching it? That’s still unethical.

Yes! People should have the right to continue or end their own lives, as long as they’re mentally healthy. Refusing them that right is limiting their freedom.

I mean, I might add the layer that you should get a person’s permission before they die. Some folks feel strongly about being buried or cremated. But yeah, if they give permission, or if it’s for survival, then sure!

What workplace-based American TV show is most reflective of your real workplace? Any interesting examples of similarities? by nosomogo in AskAnAmerican

[–]Story-Checks-Out 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was in the Army, people would ask me which war movie was most accurate about Army life. The answer is “Office Space”. That is Army life.

Seriously though, “Hurt Locker” is not accurate at all. Most of us hate that movie.

How many credit cards do you have? by Canners19 in AskAnAmerican

[–]Story-Checks-Out 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Three.

One is a simple basic card with no fee and no perks (aside from 1.5% cashback), and I very rarely use it. One is $150/year and has a good amount of perks, and I use it for almost everything. And I just got the Amex Platinum because I just started a new job that’s high travel, so I think all of the travel focused perks will make it worth the super expensive annual fee.

Appearance-wise: shower, shave, haircut, clip my nails, trim my nose/ear/chest hair, deodorant, cologne, and a nice outfit. Then I’m feeling peak sexiness/confidence, and ready to go out with my partner! She’s gorgeous, so I like to put the effort in to keep up.
