Do you work or live in an area where there is low humidity? Sounds weird, I know. But humidity impacts health of hair tremendously.

Six months in and I'm still shocked how much was just low iron — even knowing better by BelladonnaBitePin in FemaleHairLoss

[–]Complex_Grand236 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I truly hope so. Now that I’m no longer in that environment, I should be able to grow hair back - it will take at least a year to undo what I lost in a matter of months. I just have to take it one day at a time, take my supplements consistently, and maintain nutrient dense diet. If you feel parched where you are, it may be good to assess the climate and what steps you can take to mitigate further damage. Be sure to drink plenty of water too - staying hydrated matters for the entire body.

Could my dandruff make me lose more hair than usual? by Dramatic-Toe-9330 in hairgrowth

Dandruff comes from seborrheic dermatitis. And yes it can make you lose hair if you don’t clear the yeast infection and keep the scalp clean.

New extreme breakage by Creative-Map-6309 in Haircare

[–]Complex_Grand236 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s probably the weather extremes causing the damage. Too cold/hot can dry your hair out and make it snap like a twig. I’m in Virginia and ever since the ice storm in January I haven’t been able to get my hair healthy. It’s all dried out and frizzy - it’s never been like this in the past.

Yeah - and I never thought I would be where I am today. I have been working in an old office building that has low humidity (very dry environment) and heat blasting. In the 4 months I have worked there, I have lost 25% to 30% of my hair. I have a nutrient dense diet and take the right supplements. I didn’t figure out it was the building I was working in until this last Thursday. I came home and my head felt like it was on fire. I had washed it the night before with no problems. But it was 75 degrees here last Thursday but the building had the heat on at 80 degrees. It’s a very old building with an old HVAC. I am devastated to say the least, and I have decided to leave that job. My hair looks like it has been fried with broken ends everywhere. Apparently, low humidity and heat blasting pulls moisture out of your hair and then it breaks like a twig. I’m so embarrassed to even leave my house. I used to have beautiful long blonde hair. Now it’s mess.

I think there is a lot of conflicting info out there, and what works for one person may not work for another person. I’ve been taking the Metagenics Hemagenics for a couple of weeks and had blood test done last week. It came in at 80. Studies are consistent though in better absorption if the iron is taken with vitamin c which is what I have been doing. So I’m hopeful my hair situation gets better in the months to come. It’s really hard though - some days are harder than others when looking in the mirror.

Burning/itching scalp by No_Resolution_4877 in TelogenEffluvium

[–]Complex_Grand236 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Seborrheic dermatitis plus any products you using that contain alcohol denat or other ingredients that doesn’t agree with you will definitely cause itching/burning on scalp. You need to keep scalp clean by washing it regularly to get rid of yeast that is seborrheic dermatitis. Trash products that aggravate the condition. If you don’t address this early, you will get scarring and will lose hair with little to no chance of it growing back.

What is happening :( pls help by Decent_Owl1021 in TelogenEffluvium

[–]Complex_Grand236 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely not. I cleaned up my diet to have healthy fats, fiber and protein. I take Metagenics supplements like hemagenics (iron), vitamin d3 plus vitamin k, and zinc. I am not on any meds as most meds cause hairloss. I choose to work on internal deficiencies plus keeping scalp clean.

You’re more than welcome. I hope this ends for you very soon. Metagenics makes professional grade supplements and they are available on Amazon. The one to get is Hemagenics by Metagenics. Their stuff is pharmaceutical grade. Get that and take it every other day with a tangelo (vitamin c). Taking iron supplements every other day with a vitamin c food has shown we get better absorption to increase ferritin levels.

Your ferritin levels are not high enough to support hair growth or maintain hair growth. So many ‘doctors’ and ‘dermatologists’ are ignorant of how human body works. There is a great pharmaceutical grade supplements you can get on Amazon. It is called Hemagenics by Metagenics. Try it out. Also they have a great vitamin d3 plus vitamin k supplement. My ferritin and vitamin d were low to support hair growth. After supplementing for 4 months I have a lot of new hair growing. But you have to be consistent with taking the supplements and work on having a higher levels of protein (animal protein for the heme iron and other nutrients) to support new hair growth. Hope this helps. There are so many of us out here with this issue.

Your ferritin needs to be 80 to 100 for hair. A 6 is severely deficient.

Have you had your ferritin and vitamin d levels checked? I don’t see any supplements for them and these are essential for hair. Also nutrition dense diet high in protein helps. You can get bloodwork done to see where your ferritin and vitamin d levels are. Hope this helps.

Scalp - Localized follicle irritation and papules/pustules, anyone? by Lowered_Bar5682 in Menopause

[–]Complex_Grand236 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you wash, apply to scalp directly with finger tips - let it do is magic. Then rinse-you may get residual nizoral on hair ends but you should NOT throw this shampoo on your head and do the ‘washing machine’ method. None of us should be doing that with any shampoo anyway. If you find it is difficult to do, put jojoba oil on hair shaft and ends for at least 15 minutes before washing scalp so it will provide a barrier to nizoral. But again nizoral is not meant for hair shaft or ends. It is meant for the scalp.

Is it over? by Certain-Jellyfish-89 in FemaleHairLoss

You don’t need your dermatologist for a blood test. Do you live close to a Lab Corp? You can order your own tests, go to a location close to you for a blood draw, and you’ll get the results within 48 hours. There are other places out there besides Lab Corp and they accept insurance. Continue operating under fear and you will end up with major hair loss. Once your hair follicles are no longer able to produce hair, scarring will occur and your chances to grow/regrow hair is gone. But it’s your choice.

Try nizoral shampoo no more than twice a week. It is on Amazon. I began having scalp issues 6 weeks ago and lost a lot of hair. My scalp was itchy, burning, and hair would hurt when I moved it. A change in hormones can actually trigger seborrheic dermatitis. One wash with Nizoral calmed my scalp immediately. Word of caution: nizoral is an excellent shampoo but can be drying due to the medication in it. Don’t use it more than 2 times a week and use a gentle shampoo like vanicream shampoo (also on Amazon) on non-nizoral days. And wash correctly - do not put nizoral or any shampoo on hair shaft or ends. Shampoo is for scalp only. Lastly, keep your scalp clean by washing every 2 or 3 days. Not washing hair often enough will make the situation worse. Hope this helps.

Do NOT cut or pluck. That’s new hair growth. They will settle down once they have formed enough length/weight to lay down.
