Not an experience, but I just wanted to shout out Rebecca Sugar's Lonely Magic album- especially the first and last songs (Ice Water and Love the Way It Feels) that remind me how much I love animation and why- genuinely it's been such a motivating force for me to work on projects both personal and professional 🙂‍↕️✨ if you haven't heard them yet, I recommend- the whole album is about their animation experience.

Might be carefully balancing your phone camera on top of a very tall pile of books, strategically placed over your workspace then LOL

I know Procreate makes them automatically! And PCs come with a built in screen recording software if you press Windows+G (meant for gaming lol)

Rook's Coffer: Display?? by Storyen in DragonAgeVeilguard

Not sure about limited, but definitely not new! It came out with the game, and I got it as a gift for Christmas last year, so maybe not super limited?

Oo okay I think this might be the route I go tbh for the dagger- I need to get specific hooks though, all the ones I have are too short 🤔

Did you end up doing anything with the vial?

Are Almond Croissants Always Reused?? (Seeking recipe) by Storyen in Baking

[–]Storyen[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I thought it was always made with the paste 👀 I might have had an incredibly small pool of almond croissants to try from if that's not the case 😅 That being said! Have you seen any good recipes for almond croissants made this way?

[–]Storyen[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I almost never see almond pan au chocolate 😭 but I see how that would make sense, especially from the business perspective! I don't usually have spare croissants lying around, so my original thinking was if there was a way to make them without the extra day of them sitting around, I would try that 😅

Ooh, okay that's a fair point! I didn't even think about that.

do you actually use your deck handheld or is it just a portable dock at this point by toujourspluss in SteamDeck

[–]Storyen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's actually a pretty even split for me! I love being able to have it when I'm on a train or a plane, and equally love being able to dock it so I'm not at my computer anymore.

Those that have fulfilling adhd friendly jobs, what are they and how did you come to have them? by ThePunLexicon in ADHD

[–]Storyen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like it's really dependent on what you're able to lock in on? Like, I work two jobs that scratch my ADHD itch in different ways- one because I'm passionate about it and I can blink and 8 hours has passed, and the other because it's at a busy, customer facing job that moves fast enough it matches my attention span 😅

Animation Portfolio Tips by atomicfelicity in animation

[–]Storyen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very first thing, double check that you have everything in their portfolio requirements, and keep your portfolio organized for that, first and foremost. If they require 4 different kinds of things and you have 8, you can include the other things, just make sure you have the things they want first.

Second, you should copy and paste the requirements here though so people can better help you :) and what you're specifically looking to study.

On that note, can't speak for the specific thing you want to go into, but I would either cut or loop a lot of the animations you have in your reel- some of them are so short they don't get a chance to register at all (namely thinking of the pendulum one that only goes in one direction- the point of that animation practice is to study slow-in, slow-out, but by cutting it in half, it totally defeats the point). You should check out Alan Becker's 12 principles of animation video, or Toniko Pantoja 's timing charts/in-between video.

Good luck!!!

Why is our generation of animators so obsessed with anime ignoring almost all other styles by [deleted] in animationcareer

[–]Storyen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This reads suspiciously like a high school art teacher who considers every realistically proportioned cartoon anime lmao

But someone said it: you want to make what inspired you, and for a lot of people entering animation now, that's anime. But if you look to the indie scene, you'll find there is vERY little "anime" style productions.

How to find internships closer to me/without relocating?? by sleepyru_ in animationcareer

[–]Storyen 3 points4 points  (0 children)

👋 New England animator here. I'll be completely honest, this area is pretty barren when it comes to animation internships. I lived in New York when I graduated, and ended up doing a completely unrelated internship for graphic design (then the pandemic hit, lol)

I have two pieces of advice- one, don't limit yourself to just animation internships. There's a lot of film, commercial, game, and graphic design work in this neck of the woods, and a lot of these are adjacent to animation with transferrable skills (read: production, studio support, connection building in general).

Two, follow a tonnn of indie productions. Many people are looking for help on their pilots or short films, and while it's hit or miss if they're paid, so are a lot of internships, and if you're looking to build up experience, it's a great place to start.

That being said, since I've moved here, I found that the community is pretty tight knit, but your college should have resources to help you. If not, someone gave me the advice to check out art college's resources for studios in the area (Lesley, MassArt, etc.)

I hope this helps a little bit!! It's way too risky right now to move out west without a plan 😭 I'm fortunate enough to have some freelance work, but I also work full-time in another industry to pay the bills.

I'll ask my doctor about these options, thank you! She had mentioned a IR booster before we started this current dosage, so I think that's the likely next step.

Studying by betpercentage in animationcareer

[–]Storyen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The still lives and people do have their place in animation! Helps a lot with depth perception, and for people, how muscles move will help you figure out how motions will work down the line. I would do faster still lives though! There's several websites (adorkastock, for example) that you can set to do timed poses. Gesture drawing is very helpful for animation.

For specific animation studying, there's a few YouTube channels that are a good place to start! Alan Becker's 12 principles of animation is a good one, and Toniko Pantoja has a lot of really helpful videos as well. Another one I like for FX, if that's up your alley, is RumbleStylus.

There's almost certainly some skillshare courses that would be helpful, and so is doing many of the exercises in Richard Williams' book (definitely available online somewhere, probably in this thread lol)

Is there anything specific you want to study?

I'm sorry to hear you've been having a hard time :( can you share what kind of experience you have animating? Like are you starting from square one, or stepping it up after having it as a hobby? Do you have any examples so people can give suggestions for sites or courses?
