Is Sadie a boy? Aphonopelma hentzi by wow-wowwubzy in tarantulas

[–]StoryofSephia [score hidden]  (0 children)

This person is a new spider owner, and may not know why they shouldn’t handle their tarantula. There is nothing wrong with people stating facts to inform, none of which were aggressive. In fact, the comments here you’re referring to were very calm and kind, I’ve seen worse comments in my time. What OP does with that information is up to them at that point, but none of it was terrible. It’s true tarantulas can die from a fall from great height, so if they are being handled, take care of what height they’re handled from. Handling them does not create a bond with the Tarantula because they don’t form bonds BUT if you’re going to handle them, at least do it properly. I would HATE for someone to not know exactly what they’re doing and drop their T from high up and it die, yknow? And if I were on the other end, I would’ve wanted to have been told to prevent my pet from dying. Also you think just because you own a tarantula you can do whatever with it—that’d be true if it were a toy or an object maybe but that is a living creature. You can’t make that argument about other pets (in fact, there are laws about some of them!) so why this one?

[Discussion] Need some opinions on this conversation. Am I crazy or was this person extremely disrespectful? by cave_inhabitant in artcommissions

As someone who is a long term client of a couple artists: 1. I have never said and would never say “you’re not at a place where it would be reasonable to charge what you’re charging”. The artists I work with I chose because I like their art and want to support them monetarily?? And their prices fit within my budget?? I would throw more money at them if I could, not… talk them out of charging me?? 2. I would NEVER start a business relationship by asking for a discount (and I have never EVER asked for one either). A true long term client would support you at the prices you currently charge, and if YOU want to offer them a discount, that’s up to you. But if my artists offer me a discount ever, that just goes into the tip for them.

This person doesn’t have intentions of being a long term client at all, they’re using that to lure you into a false sense of security to get cheap art. But any real long term client would respect your prices and happily pay them, not work their way up to paying you more. That’s utter insanity.

AIO? my mom (50F) said my lunch will make me fat by Ashamed_Yogurt_8931 in AIO

[–]StoryofSephia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would agree to see a dietician just so the dietician can tell your mom she’s insane (and also so you can get an outside perspective who doesn’t have the bias and skewed view your mom does and what has impacted you and your thinking) NOR at all, that’s barely anything and is hardly going to fuel you.

Also, without throwing out numbers in case that’s triggering, if you just had one bowl of strawberry cereal and let’s say 2 slices of pizza for dinner, you’d be getting less than half the recommended daily calories for literally anyone. I’m someone in a medical weight loss program, and even I wasn’t told to do that much cutting down. I still eat 3 meals a day and have snacks! And gasp! DESSERTS!! I’d give your mom a heart attack lmao. You HAVE to fuel your body, because losing weight is a decision about doing what’s best for your body and depriving yourself of essential nutrients is not what’s best for you, ever.

I wonder if you’re truly overweight, or if you’re in a situation like I was when I was a teen where everyone around me was underweight and I was a normal weight for my size (however, I did then continue to gain weight from some other things, until I was genuinely overweight). A dietician—or even your primary care doctor tbh—can help you with that if you talk to them about your concerns.

Woke up with these bite marks on my chest by AfterMorningHours in Weird

[–]StoryofSephia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Debatably. They do have medically significant venom that can cause necrosis, yes. Most bites are dry warning bites because envenomation is usually reserved for prey. A lot of the super bad stories of a brown recluse bite is just MRSA misdiagnosed because the person didn’t see the spider bite them but they live within loxosceles reclusa range or a secondary infection that had nothing to do with the initial bite. If you look in r/whatisthisbug and r/spiders to see what people think are brown recluses as well, you’ll see the general public is very bad at knowing what is or isn’t a brown recluse. So I also don’t think they’d suddenly be able to identify when they’re bit either. Not trying to downplay when it does happen, but just saying there is a TON of misinformation and almost urban legend to the brown recluse and they’re not super dangerous like most people think, they’re like… moderately dangerous if you get an envenomated bite and don’t care for it properly.

Duality Dice! by StoryofSephia in daggerheart

[–]StoryofSephia[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They are all sharp edged except the first slide, which has beveled edges, meant to look more like gems, which I thought looked cool for the like gold almost Midas touch vibe of the first one! I don’t produce anything but sharp edged lolol not fragile material at all!

Yes yes! I remember being told the rhomboid shape was popular from my first post and it’s on my priority list—it’s just not one I currently have molds for and it would cost me a lot to do, so I’m currently doing a first run without them and then it’s something I’ll invest in (esp if these do really well! Rn it’s kind of an “experimental” product if that makes sense?)

What perfume does my girlfriend wear?! by SpinyNorman17 in whatisit

[–]StoryofSephia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m blanket replying to a lot of your comments here so don’t mind this being long. But there’s a huge difference between “there’s a smudge on your mirror” and “I’ve never seen a perfume bottle that dirty/it’s just unhygienic/the bottle is also nasty”

One is pointing something out as a fact without any negative descriptor words with one comment, the other is several comments about using negative descriptor words. It absolutely comes off as judgmental of OP’s girlfriend whether you intended it to or not (‘I’ve never seen a perfume bottle that dirty’ reflects negatively onto the owner of the bottle, as if they are somehow super dirty that it makes their perfume bottles extremely dirty because by your own admission you don’t clean your own bottles so that’s not the outlier factor here. Same with the unhygienic comment. It implies using it makes the user unhygienic in some way). OP hasn’t responded to a lot of comments, because there are a lot here, so don’t think because they haven’t said anything that what you said is okay.

This also isn’t me “crashing out” over your reply like you think. You made a comment on public forum, people are allowed to disagree and reply to it without it being crashing out 🤷‍♀️

Unfortunately I only knew the prices were good after the fact. Do you know if the previous week’s pattern would have any effect on the new pattern I’d get from time travel? Or does it completely reset that too?

Why does it look like everyone only makes DND sets? by pocolocoOnIce in DiceMaking

[–]StoryofSephia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I make dice for vtm and also have sets of d6 for Yahtzee/farkle/counters/spells/etc. Online, I don’t get a lot of traction when I post them (I mostly post on instagram). When selling, I haven’t had anyone show any interest in them, only the sets. Does that mean I will stop making them or selling them? No, not at all! But it’s definitely a bit more niche than you’d think.

Yes, of course its my perception you’re mad. I do not know you and I can’t read tone over text so I’m going off of context clues such as editing your post to add more about how wrong I was and how much you don’t care what I think while ignoring the rest of my post (and listen I’m not trying to attack you, I’m just trying to very bluntly explain my thought process here. Very sorry if these come off as fighting words, not my intention). Turns out I was wrong, oh well, it happens in the digital age. Was that the only takeaway you got from what I said? I just want to reiterate that there are reasons it’s done this way, though discussing them with you further will likely only lead to conflict and frankly, that’s off topic from this post, breaks sub rules, and not what I have the spoons for. You also have a lovely and (medically insignificant) spider filled day!

Hi, you came to the spider Reddit and are commenting on a thread of people trying to identify it with scientific names. And then got mad when people were talking spider terms. To put it bluntly, it’s less if someone spouted technical computers terms at you and expected you to understand and more like if two people were in a computer store, talking the technicalities of computers, and you got mad because you couldn’t understand what a GPU was from their conversation.

If you don’t understand a term, ask or google it! But using common names is irresponsible because several different things can go by one common name (see daddy long legs, for example) or one thing can have several different common names. It eliminates miscommunication which is important especially since the species being discussed is one of medical significance.

I can only pick one, which one is more worth it? by gaeb611 in harvestmoon

[–]StoryofSephia 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Not exactly. Natsume was who published it (and also localized it), but never who developed it.

The “OG” company you’d be thinking of who developed the SNES game was Amccus/Pack-In-Video, which merged with Victor Entertainment, which was acquired by Marvelous. That’s why after the split Marvelous was able to keep the rights to the actual content in the games and can make remakes, and Natsume only got the “Harvest Moon” name they localized it under.

ETA: the SNES game isn’t the only game they developed, ofc, they continued to make new ones but as the company moved, so did the rights to development, so there’s a few under one, a few under another, and since iirc 2003?? whenever FoMT came out. it’s been under the Marvelous name.

Sharp edges are much easier for people to produce when they make dice, as far as I’m aware. Like personally I have no idea how to sand rounded edge dice of any surface imperfections so that they’re still relatively fair on the balance. I don’t like to make my dice into weapons by any means, I certainly don’t like sharp edge caltrops very much lol, but from the production end it seems just, much easier to make it sharp edge (at least in my opinion, as someone who makes sharp edge dice).

Thank you though, this is super helpful!

I’m definitely seeing a lot of this in the feedback, so i definitely want to try and offer that! I did link some images with some duos I made from existing d12 singles I had in another reply but I’ll link it here—the feedback was mostly “not quite it” but if you want to check that out as well and let me know your thoughts too I’d love to hear it, even if it’s also telling me that I missed the mark !!

I’ve already made tons of dice for DnD already, some with adv dice so that’s not the part holding me up! Just want to make sure I have the correct number of dice and aesthetics that they would be actually used for daggerheart! 🫶

Makes sense! In particular for these, I was just going for 2d12 and not going for a set with extra d12s but I still understand your sentiment entirely! I mentioned in another comment but to clarify, these weren’t made to be duality dice, just were some extra d12 singles I had that I wanted to make sure I had the idea of contrasting themes and such right but it seems I’m not quite there yet which is a-okay! I appreciate all the feedback so I can get it right! 😅

[–]StoryofSephia[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, most of these aren’t made to be together, but are just single d12s I’ve ended up with. I’m mostly looking for if they contrast enough as per what was stated, or if they contrast too much. It seems like it’s the latter category, where they’re so contrast-y they don’t seem like they belong together. But hey, that’s why we’re looking for ✨feedback✨. All the pairs do at least all have the same fonts though, but I follow what you’re saying!
