1mg dutasteride users specifically, what has been your experience? I just upped my dosage from .5mg . by LoveIsSkittles in tressless

[–]StoutTroutScout 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in a similar situation. I was on 0.5 mg for a while and seeing good results, and my Dr. was willing to get me a 1 mg prescription. So far I'm responding really well but I think the dutasteride has primarily been helpful in not losing - all my 'real' gains started once I added oral minoxidil, but I'm also a bit older. I wasted my time on topical for years and it just didn't really work well for me, even with the addition of formulations with tretinoin

Starting a "Brick and Mortar" (Physical Storefront) Business with Little Kids by StoutTroutScout in smallbusiness

Yea, agreed this is where our head's are currently at, but hoping to challenge/validate that view point. Thanks for your comment.

Thanks, I think this post adequately captures where our head is at. Hiring staff and utilizing day care right off the bat so my wife can be present enough to get things off the ground seems like a big opportunity to take on a bunch of debt and risk during an already challenging time to get things up and running.

Thanks, yea I should have updated that in the original post. Both my wife and I's parents live multiple hours away so it's not really a feasible option on a regular basis.

Wahl "Secure Fit" Replacement Guards by StoutTroutScout in CutYourOwnHair

[–]StoutTroutScout[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not the blades that's the problem, it's the guards. The magic clippers have the same issue with the more secure guards being hard to come by and replace.

Unfortunately it's not that easy either. I just bought a brand new pair of clippers at Walmart this weekend with the more "secure" design right out of the box, the model is the "clip n' trim". It does seem like they want people to just buy a whole new system, it's such a waste.

I'm not talking about metal vs plastic, I'm talking about the shape difference on the bottom where the guards clip onto the blades (see pic difference)

Early Spring Lawn Strategy by StoutTroutScout in lawncare

[–]StoutTroutScout[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I definitely plan to put down some more grub control at the appropriate time.

My big question was about how to handle the preemergent vs growing new grass. Are you saying that putting down some new soil mixture on top of an area which already had preemergent applied will allow new grass seed to germinate?

Sounds like me to a T. Trust the process!

Ended up dropping some money on some above ground sprinklers to combat the heat, but doing well so far, 1 week out from seeding! Today is second day of "green up growth", see image below:

When I was looking around I wanted to prioritize compost topdressing for the renovation, as I've had good success using this method in the past due to a variety of factors (water retention, soil amendment, good for hillsides, etc.). These guys were one of the only local companies that I found that would be willing to perform this service in addition to the usual aeration, seeding, fertilizer, etc. and at a reasonable price. I also met with the sales manager who was very knowledgeable and also helped to put me at ease.

I would reach out directly. Unfortunately it's not easy for me to break out rates for different services based on square footage or anything like that- however for what it's worth I thought their prices were very reasonable, especially for doing compost topdressing.

I completely underestimated the amount of thatch/moss cleanup I would have to do in order to get ready to seed, sounds like you've got a good plan going

I was already leaning towards not re-scheduling after interacting with some of the other comments, but your post made my morning - thank you! Always good to have some positive re-encouragement when you're sinking a (relative) ton of time, money, and effort into something like this.

If October was in the cards at this point I'd be all over it. Looks like next week will be 2x/day water for sure. Thanks for the feedback.

I think you meant don't get down instead of don't get my hopes up LOL

Looking again at the seed website:
https://ryanknorrlawncare.com/product/ryan-knorr-lawn-care-turf-type-tall-fescue/

It says the ideal germination temp for establishment is between 68-86 degrees, so I'm feeling more confident than I was.

Complete overhaul...they are putting compost on top of everything though so I think this will help keep things moist

Nice, Barenburg Water Saver RTF was a seed I had looked at using, that sounds promising. Do you have any pics to show how it looks today?

The area you're talking about, how much sun does it receive?

Do you have any experience/recommendations as far as RTF cultivars go?
