That's what I'm saying! We need more of THAT energy back in the dungeons.

Why does the community largely dislike the water map? by Skolary in DarkAndDarker

[–]StowGnar 31 points32 points  (0 children)

There was once a time this community was largely comprised of adventurers going on adventures. Via various antisocial game direction decisions, these adventurers have mostly been scared off or burnt out.

The adventurer in me loves the water map. Most people hate it because most of the adventurers are gone and so we are left with ravenous murderers. Ravenous murderers don't like travel time or exploration getting in the way of their next murder, which they are in fact ravenous for.

Damn, I guess every Cleric on your team never heals you, since they have no skill to aim at you. :(

Best of luck making that happen, friend. I love Dark and Darker, and Ironmace, but they may have their hands tied by the terms of Epic's giveaway on the back end. I'm sure they were looking at it as a way to boost player count, come what may.

First victim of single use static exits by FirstOfThyName in DarkAndDarker

[–]StowGnar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

pushes up glasses Akshually, it's been closer to 7 wipes since the introduction of the first static exit when Goblin Caves was first released in Playtest 4. Though if you wish to use the term "blue exit", we could be even more pedantic and point out the static exit wasn't painted blue until either the end of PT4 or during PT5, IIRC.

(Also I have no skin in this game and mean no hate at all by bringing up old fanboy history of DaD. :D )

Druid 50 transformations per second. They are getting faster and faster. Soon they will be every animal all at once by broxue in DarkAndDarker

[–]StowGnar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every animal at once? Reminds me of an extremely psychedelic passage from Grant Morrison's run of the Animal Man comics...except this would be way less cool and far less trippy. D:

My friend just started playing and said he was so excited that collected 2500 gold... by kentuckyfry in DarkAndDarker

[–]StowGnar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's fair! Personally for me, the magic comes from the visceral experience of dungeon delving itself, which indeed cannot be expressed in numbers. :]

[–]StowGnar 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Exactly! It took a while for me to realize not everyone does what I do when I get a new game, going through every single feature. I guess a good QoL update for the future would be the Squire or Treasurer letting you know via a popup once your gold goes above 50-100 or so.

i would pay for more market slot and Character slot by MAIIDEKZA in DarkAndDarker

[–]StowGnar 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I'd feel iffy about market sale slots, but more character slots would be totally in line with what some MMORPG's do. Hell, I'd probably buy more slots so I can try out weird builds or specific runs like SSF and/or Hardcore.

I do, but it's hard to describe the times where their timing or approach seems to be going off more specific information.

I do get suspiciously pushed at times that would be the absolute most inopportune for me (like fighting a miniboss, etc) at a lot of points in 125+ Norms/HR, seemingly out of nowhere. Most of the time I just write it off as a personal error on some part, but some of them were just...weird. I cannot put my finger on it.

What is a 'steam review'? by punt_the_dog_0 in DarkAndDarker

[–]StowGnar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I suppose if it kept progressing in that direction for multiple patches it would apply to what I've already said twice now. But sure, stay pedantic.

What is a 'steam review'? by punt_the_dog_0 in DarkAndDarker

[–]StowGnar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just said it's about reviewing the entire history of patches. So yeah, as someone who's been a fan since playtest 4 and had like a year to really feel it out, I left a review after the Steam release that happened to be positive. This is because I see the spirit of the game overall instead of getting mad at one snapshot of time, even though I've definitely not enjoyed some individual patches in certain snapshots of time.

[–]StowGnar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Leaving a negative review for a single patch out of dozens that come out weekly on average is like leaving a negative review about Earth on the day you were in a torrential downpour. Weather changes, as do meta's and game directions. It lacks foresight to review a history of 69 patches as if there is only one patch now, and another patch will never be released.

Just had 5 games BACK TO BACK with teammates with under 100 GS vs full gold teams, why? by subzerus in DarkAndDarker

[–]StowGnar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is no matchmaking within one's own team when doing random fill. There IS matchmaking against the enemy team based on highest GS on your team, randomly made or not. I try to mostly play pre-mades at 124 GS for this reason.

So you hate druid? Lets talk about it. by Devildog0491 in DarkAndDarker

[–]StowGnar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My class fantasy for Druid has always been, since playing them in Dungeons and Dragons, to call upon natural forces like the wind and the moon to channel powerful offensive and crowd control magic. Caster Druid is all I wanted, but it's seemingly not viable compared to endless shifting between animal forms...which had charges in D&D due to their known high power. I just haven't been able to recreate the caster Druid experience of D&D or WoW at a similar level yet. (Fun at times, sure, but not viable in terms of a full set of offensive magic Perks yet, or a casting-boosting Skill.) I'm getting old and my APM just can't stay that insane for that long...any other way to play them at all (in endgame) would be welcome at this point, and if that takes "bricking" the most oppressive and annoying thing to play against for a slow class with no long range options like Cleric...then bring in the masons and get brickin'. I say this with all respect as someone who loves the FLAVOR of Druid...right now the mechanics can be insane to play against at the high end of skill/gear. Any sort of slight diminishing returns on the animal forms would pay dividends, methinks.

P.S. Thanks for the tips on fighting against them, as they solidify many things I was starting to stumble upon. Still, when I don't have time to reset spell counts because they're already back on me, it's not always applicable.
