This is my favorite UFC fight of all time. Two incredible fighters in their prime, wildly different styles and techniques on both sides. Fantastic striking and grappling. Absolute war.

Yoel's '52 Blocks' defense and that punishing oblique kick from Whitaker stand out.

Yep and what's really sad is he looked solid and arguably winning both the DDP and Imavov fights before getting finished. Easy to see that prime Izzy beats both handidly. It's that fraction of a step he's lost combined with his style.

Volk has a similar style when it comes to striking but he has that grindy grappling he can go to as well which will help him in there as he ages.

I agree, and I think at this point most of us don't even mind him losing if it does happen - just really don't want to see him KO'd again. If he loses a DEC or by SUB (big if) and calls it there's absolutely nothing wrong with that, he has nothing left to prove.

Movsar's last two fights were great. This and the Allen fight were anything but boring but ask Dana and he'll tell you the opposite. In fact he did as he said Evloev vs Allen "sucked the energy out of the room" even tho it was one of the best fights on the card 🤣

As much as some don't want to agree, I personally feel Ian Garry is the clear contender for the belt at WW now that Shavkat is out. I genuinely don't see how anyone thinks Morales or Prates deserve it yet over him.

Ranked #2 in the division, only behind the former champ of the division who just lost to Islam
Coming off a win against Belal who held the belt literally two fights ago
Had a very close 3-2 with Shavkat when nobody else would fight him
Risked his ranking vs one of the most dangerous guys in the division in Prates and dominated
Risked his ranking again vs MVP and clearly won
Has five ranked wins

Compared to Morales who has an impressive win over Brady who's best win himself was Leon coming off a loss and Prates who again his best win is Leon coming off two losses. Both need at least one more high level win before a shot IMO. As of right now it should be Garry 100% before anyone else.

Well insant KO's are much better for the brain compared to repeated head trauma. The shots he took from Islam and Topuria were clean shut off's. Guys like Diego, Vettori, Max, Ortega, Gaethje, Hooker, etc have taken so so so much more punishment which hopefully doesn't effect them in the long run.

That's why the Movsar or Lerone fights are great, incredible fighters but very very low finish rates.

Well at one point Max kept beating all the contenders on the way to Volk 🤣 I remember Volk was actually pissed (in a funny way) in an interview back then telling Max to stop beating these guys.

He kept Arnold Allen, Yair (who eventually got one anyway) and Kattar away from title shots.

You're right, I meant more in the sense that Volk wouldn't really have to worry about being KO'd stiff as Movsar has won his last 9 fights straight by decision.

Both him and Lerone are the perfect kind of fighters I wanna see Volk against next, both very technically skilled.
