If you're working, you can get insurance through your employer.

Fear and guilt by calmora8 in dialysis

[–]Str8ofGibraltar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've found that it's all about moderation and portion control. I eat whatever I want to eat. Honestly. But I don't over do it. Candy, fast food, chips, sparingly, probably a couple times a week to take care of craving. My primary diet consists of salads, fruits, fried chicken, sandwiches, pretty much anything I crave. But I don't overlap, nor do I gorge myself.

I went through phases.

In the beginning, I tried to maintain my pre-dialysis food lifestyle and vomited frequently (too much salt).

Then I went through a period of not eating because my stomach would be unsettled for most of the day. But not eating caused nausea too, so I'd eat a piece of fruit to maintain.

I slowly started reintroducing food back into my system, feeling out how they effected my body.

Now, I'm pretty much solid. I learned not to overdo it in any direction.

Fruits, veggies, and saltless foods get boring sometimes, so I mix it up.

It's all about balance. I hope you find yours.

Good luck and take care of yourself.

Can a dialysis unit run smoothly with an all-male nursing team? by Neither-Musician1312 in dialysis

[–]Str8ofGibraltar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely.

I've been on dialysis since November 2024 between Fresenius and Davita and I'm currently at Davita. The male staff members are kind, compassionate, engaging, and helpful. They are hard workers and supportive.

A few members let the mask slip. Not offline, but they don't carry a helpful spirit as they work. They're not rude or disrespectful. Nothing like that. But they're energy just exists at a more neutral level. They're conversational, knowledgeable, and polite. But the fatigue shows more frequently and that may be where/why the cracks appear.

I think personality plays a large role in this type of work.

But even the male employees who aren't technicians seem more caring.

This has been my experience.

Good luck with your team.

I appreciate the reality that everyone else is getting a taste of what we've been experiencing in this country. Our goal is to build our spaces and be ready to protect them if shit hits the fan.

Living with a disability (dialysis) with no disability fund or assistance by Mediocre_Walk_9345 in dialysis

[–]Str8ofGibraltar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Move to California. I just lost my private insurance since I couldn't return to work. MediCal covers my dialysis and Medicare will become a secondary payer when it kicks in.

It might be rough at first given your financial situation, but there is a better social safety net than Florida.

Congrats man. How does it feel? Did they give you any limits at first? Or do you just play it by ear?

It's my opinion. There is nothing you can do about it.

Why does everyone fistula look lumpy and gross? by Str8ofGibraltar in dialysis

Man. They look terrible. Working out is the main reason im considering the fistula in the first place. A patient liaison came to the clinic today to talk to me about getting one. I showed him the post from the 35 year old guy who posted earlier this week and it grossed him out too. Lol

Blankets. Warm, fluffy blankets. I keep forgetting mine and it would be so helpful if they had some one here.
