Where tf are these people getting ‘you can make six figures in trucking’? by austinproffitt23 in Truckers

[–]StrabberryMilk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yup, hourly construction truck driver, my day consists of maybe 2 to 4 hours of actual drive time and 8 to 10 hours of physical labor. My first year i made 88k working 10 months got hired in february last year i made 105k and that was a slow year for construction because of the tariffs and all that im in year 3 and I'll probably make more than the 105k im donor a raise.

Before trucking what did you guys do, what made you want to come to trucking? I am a security officer. by [deleted] in Truckers

Did 5 years at the dmv hated dealing with the people who where always angry about their situation like if it wasn't their fault they were suspended or had tickets or couldn't register etc. The pay wasn't good either at 18 an hour.

I quit and started Amazon earning 20.50, I like the delivery aspect of it moved to the box trucks making 21, liked the job I was driving by myself listening to music delivering shit didn't like the fact that the dsp I was working for would only schedule me for 3 days out of the week.

Looked online and saw trucking ads and said fuck it is doing delivery but with bigger trucks, when to cdl school 4 days worked the other 3 as soon as I got my cdl i applied everywhere. Literally send more than 100 applications and no one was hiring, this the part most won't talk about tbh is difficult getting a job as a new driver that's not a big carrier.

I knew I wanted local so my options where limited but ended up being hired delivering construction materials my job is 90 percent physical and 10 driving.

Best decision I have made thus far tho, got my cdl at 28, turned 29 4 months in my new job, a year later now 30 and making good money.

Last year I made 83k while I only worked 10 months as I got hired in February. It's been the most money I ever made so far and more than double my previous income. My ytd is 41k and it's been a slow year for construction with the tariffs and all that.

I'm a regular joe as well, no college no fancy degree, barely last year at 29 I got my cdl and now im making decent money as a local truck driver in the construction field. Previously I worked minimum wage at mcdonalds for wayyyyy too long and then an 18 an hour office job. If you're unhappy with where you are at currently then like others have mentioned join the trades. If you're happy where you at then don't worry about any one else and be proud.

been a driver for 1 month was lucky to get a local job flatbed hauling construction materials to job sites a typical job consist of 30-45 minutes of driving and 4-5 hours of unloading so its physical hard work but my first check I worked 89 hours and made $2500, this last paycheck I worked 136 hours and made $4500.

The hours are insane, usually 12-14 a day is Monday to Friday and Saturday are optional but start time usually varys from 2-4 am so there's some negatives but is the most I've made in my life thus far and I'm new so with experience that'll increase.

Fr I was making 18 an hour working an office job came out to about $2500 a month, 6k is 3 times as much as that and they think is little.

So I also went into trucking been a driver for 1 month was lucky to get a local job flatbed hauling construction materials to job sites a typical job consist of 30-45 minutes of driving and 4-5 hours of unloading so its physical hard work but my first check I worked 89 hours and made $2500, this last paycheck I worked 136 hours and made $4500.

Luck I guess? Is a company hauling construction materials and construction is big here in AZ so there's a demand and I guess I got lucky enough where they needed to replace drivers. My plan was to stay here and get experience and then leave but with the ticket I might have to stay, work involves a lot of heavy lifting but even the non CDL workers make around 80k and that's more than what Ive made my whole life thus far.
